63% of Canadians want immigration cut - poll

Recommended Posts

So this number continues to rise. It was 49% in one poll, then 56%, and now 63%.

And the reason should be obvious. Most people are most comfortable living among those who are very much like themselves. As the numbers of immigrants in society continues to rise more and more people are going to feel more and more uncomfortable. And when nothing is done that discomfort level is going to turn to frustration and then anger if the government continues to ignore them. So far the government shows no sign of paying the slightest attention.

Nor does it help that the justifications the government is using are all lies. Hussen is quoted here, for example, as bemoaning the poll because we have labour shortages. Only... wages have been stagnant for years. When you have labour shortages employers pay more to attract workers. That's not happening. There are no labour shortages except in a few isolated areas. There are only employers who tell the government to bring in more cheap workers so they don't have to raise wages.

Sixty-three per cent of respondents to a recent Leger poll said the government should prioritize limiting immigration levels because the country might be reaching a limit in its ability to integrate them.

This smells pretty weird.  Exactly how is a poll like this supposed to make this particular answer obvious?  They must have just asked what a bunch of cranky old white right-wingers thought.  Why should anyone give a shit what they think?

Have you ever been polled? I have never been polled. Since Donald Trump was elected  I don't trust polls. I think they are used to sway opinion not share opinons.

Yeah, yeah. People were saying that generations ago. Funny thing is that as young people get out into the world and start paying taxes and start watching the news and reading newspapers instead of playing video games, they start to change into conservatives. Not all of them, of course. Some are dumb enough to remain pie-in-the-sky idiots with no grounding in reality. We call them liberals.

This is what I mean, racism in North America is almost entirely a right-wing conservative phenomenon - its clearly the shittiest thing Canada has going for it and probably the best reason for not immigrating here.

That said, the racists live in places where there are few immigrants.  You get the image of people peeking out of their windows looking for turbans.  Meanwhile, in Toronto we just keep going along.

And look what happened thanks to progressives - we stopped arresting gay people, we stopped (mostly) attacking/killing gay people, gay people can get married.  We also let women have abortions, and we don't insist everyone get married.  We don't send young girls away if they get pregnant, than take their children away from them. We've moved beyond "you chose him; you stay with him even if he beats the crapola out of you" and "It's better to be married, even if it means you get beat up regularly".   Thanks to progressive young people, and the old people who remained progressive.  No thanks to the people who became more fearful and less accepting of changing social values that mean inclusion even of those who think or dress or even behave a little differently.

The entire purpose of constitutional rights is to protect the individual from the majority, as a cranky old right winger, I could care less what 63% of Canadians think, most Canadians are knee jerk totalitarian busy bodies who do not even understand what freedom is never mind defend nor uphold it, thus how I became a cranky old right winger in the first place, classically liberal limited government conservatism in the face of Canadian Bolshevism, to include both the Nanny Socialist and Nanny Prohibitionist wings of the corrupt, incompetent and dysfunctional Canadian police state.

When the richest people/corporations were taxed more, US citizens were better off.  When politicians became enamored of 'trickle-down' economics, US citizens became gradually worse off - except of course, the richest who paid fewer and fewer taxes while failing to create economic wealth; instead they shunted their money out-of-country.  Millennials, being generally much more educated than those who came before, will no doubt see through this idiocy and devise a system that permits everyone in rich countries to benefit - even if it means the richest have to pay their fair share.

Your automatic denigration of entire groups of people about whom you know very little, and therefore think you can simply  insult and dismiss, on display again.

You're the same as the immigrant bashers, you're a freedom hater too, you just have your own bogeys to scapegoat, none the less, the Nanny Socialist wing of the Canadian police state is just as self defeating as the Nanny Prohibitionist wing, Millennials will just have to learn the hard way.

Many immigrants themselves dont want more immigration. Hypocritical? Yes. Common sense? Yes.

If you become an immigrant in the first place from the so-called shithole countries the last thing you want is your countrymen to follow you.

I work with a lot of millennials.  They are team players, and require little supervision in general.  The dying off of the oldest boomers has allowed gay marriage to happen, so social justice will only happen when these people take control.  Personally, I can't wait.

I think you are imagining this is how people feel.  Refugees want to help their countrymen.  Skilled immigrants see the value in global workforce.  I can't think of someone saying "I don't want anyone in my shithole country to follow me"

It's not about diversity.  Most people are fine with diversity.  But just like anything else, immigration can go up, and it can go down depending on certain circumstances.

What's social justice have to do with immigration?  What's social justice anyways?  That's very subjective.

It's not racist to want immigration based on merit and certain circumstances.  It's just logic and common sense.  That is if you have the best interest of the country in mind.

The only good thing I can say about Millenials is that they make good soldiers.

A pathologically naive hive mind group think generation desperate for acceptance and seeking meaning beyond themselves as individuals.

Easy to get them to go over the top, and once you go over the top when the whistle blows, all is forgiven.

Well, I often see opposition to gay marriage stated as a way that Muslims don't share "Canadian values".  Yet we had to wait for the oldest & whitest religious Canadians to die off before we got it.

It's racist when you only want immigrants that are very much like Argus.

Millenials are like the generation who fought the First World War, the Millenials would charge into Flanders in the name of whatever bullshit you put in front of them and once there they would follow you over the top when the whistle blows, and as I say, doesn't matter whether I like you or not,  if I go over the top and you follow, all is forgiven then.
