Do you oppose of foreign aid to troubled nations?

There are a couple/number of contrarians on the board who never seem to have thoughtful opinions that further a rational discussion. Throwing out straw man arguments is annoying. Just thought I'd mention it.

Don't forget invading them, causing revolution, then after their oil industry is producing you create a new narrative so you can ignore the human carnage.

Who cares if it is?  Make an articulate argument with some points if you don't like it.  Otherwise I am comfortable with ignoring your shitty on-purpose misspellings and engaging with posters who can explain their concerns with refugees in a clear and responsible manner.

No, borrowing billions of dollars to spend on people that shouldn't be in the country isn't necessarily better.  Also, it's a false choice between money on people or money on weapons.

Your truth detector is broken I think.  Can you cite the billions?  Thanks in advance.

Well...yeah...what do you think 150 years of Canadian confederation has meant in North America...TRUTH ?

Non-sequitur.  But truth-making is collective action and we get to pick who is on the team.

Wa wa wa. How about giving us your bank account numbers so the people who are sick of paying the bill can have you pay. You seem happy to do it.

No thanks, I think we will just vote Liberal and increase your taxes until you figure out how things work.

I'm being facetious of course but until people start paying attention to how politics work we will only have populists and technocrats.... just google it.

What is the strawman in that argument?

There's a good article in today's Globe and Mail, written by an immigrant, about the illegal/irregular migrant issue. (See link, below) The author of the piece notes that Trudeau's stance on this issue has the effect of undermining the seriousness of Canadian citizenship itself: "We could, and should, have an honest debate about the consequences of the PM’s grandstanding in encouraging migrants to cross over in the first place, and his seeming reluctance to defend the integrity of Canada’s borders publicly. What is irrefutable is that his words betrayed a lack of seriousness about the value of Canadian citizenship." The author goes even further in noting the consequences of Trudeau's self-serving and hollow approach in stating that "[he] is increasingly likely to lose [immigrants'] support in 2019 by willfully diminishing the values of new Canadians and replacing them with his own. Then he expects them to be grateful for it." Ouch.

I think it's time for a fresh look at damage being done by our 'poseur-in-chief' and by 2019 it will be well past time to dispatch him to the dustbin of political history.

How long are we to bear the white man's burden for things which happened generations ago?

If you're talking about Iraq or Afghanistan they brought that on themselves. But I can't recall the last incident where these people committed terrorism in the West. Instead its usually Pakistanis or Egyptians or Somalians or Saudis or Sudanese.

1. Geez, Iraq was, what, 15 years ago ?

2. Iraq brought Hussein on themselves ?  Ok.

A better idea would be to use schools as processing centres for shipping white-wingers to gulags in the Arctic.

Hussein brought it on Iraq. But as I pointed out, we're not seeing Iraqi terrorists flying into buildings or blowing people up in western Europe. Instead we're seeing a lot of Pakistanis. Why?

I don't know.  They're both Muslims so I guess it's not the religion.

I seem to remember an excellent decision by YOUR PM NOT to send troops to Iraq.  Let's not confuse the politics North of 49 with those on the other side of the border.  The politics of Iraq - and the whole of the Middle East are a lot more complicated than which tin pot dictator did the Yanks support.  But, due to rabid sectarianism, to some extent Iraq DID bring So Damn Insain on themselves.

On the "refugee" topic:  I still think the drama queen in charge missed the ultimate opportunity by not housing all of them on reserves.  After all, the crown already owns the land and it would give the "refugees" (actually "invitees" if we want to be precise) a true taste of what it means to be Canadian.   It would also give our aboriginal population a true taste of what it means to be Liberal.

BTW:  I seem to remember somone's perfect definition of a socialist:  someone who is glad to give you the shirt of his back - as long as it is not HIS shirt.

1. Who in blazes is 'my' PM?

2. Blaming people for their dictators leads to odd conclusions.

The one who in one of his few moments of clarity declined to send troops to Iraq.  Same one who campaigned against free trade, then signed off on NAFTA once he got into office (his other brief moment of clarity and good governance).

Not sure why you call him MY PM or what this could have to do with blaming individual Iraqis for Hussein.  Really you are adding noise to noise.
