Well this always fluctuates, sometimes the media says we don't have enough FDI, at other times there are complaints that too many assets are in foreign hands.  As for the U.S. tax cuts, they're incredibly regressive and will widen the gap between rich and poor that was already vast in the U.S..

Indeed...something is always being worried about in Canada when it comes to foreign investment and ownership.   Too much...or too little...damn those Americans !

Income tax cuts go to those with actual taxable income, just as it should be.

4.9% of the economy is significant, but insufficient to make a marked difference if offset by other inputs, such as government spending on infrastructure.

Agreed....4.9% would be a huge hit to Canada's economy...because the government can't seem to spend the money or get big projects done.   But it won't be that extreme of an impact.  Canada will just lose more ground to friendlier investment opportunities...."south of the border".

What's with all the exaggeration?  I guess if it makes you happy.  You should get some kind of Genghis Khan moniker or a pic of a Viking about to rape and pillage.  It seems like you're happiest making some Gwar/Masters of the Universe type comment like, "We will destroy you."  You should get a monster truck, put a giant woofer in the trunk, and blast Kid Rock while you honk your horn and cut people off.  Otherwise just joint the artillery and bomb a bunch of shit.

Quite the opposite...Canada has made these choices, not me....but Canadian media still moans about them each day.

Monster trucks do not have trunks....but the usual American cultural references are always welcomed (and expected).

Yeesh Darth Vader, didn't you guys ever joke around while you were invading countries and creating business prospects for Haliburton?  The evil empire needs some irony.

Hey fella, did you know that two days ago Freeland took a day off on Sept. 10th from the NAFTA negotiations to attend a "Woman of the World" summit in Toronto. Our dear prime mistake leader attended also. Why not? He is a feminist. The introduction video was called "Taking on a tyrant" which is believed that the video was referring to Trump. Unbelievable that she would do such a thing in the middle of negotiations on a trade deal with America. These lefty liberals are a bunch of whacked out crazy batards.

Well, if that is not a slap in the face to Trump what the hell is? It is plain as day to see that this stunned lefty liberal biotch could careless about these negotiations because she had other lefty liberal business to attend too that she thinks was much more important than NAFTA negotiations. These leftist liberals are really trying to make fools out of Canadians with their style of leftist stupid negotiations. Just thought I would let you know about that little news story. Chuckle-chuckle.

The day before heading to Washington for more NAFTA negotiations this week, Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland participated in a panel discussion titled “Taking on the Tyrant” that compared Donald Trump to some of the world’s worst dictators.

It also compared Trump voters to the goose-stepping armies of tyrannical regimes.

If that’s a strategy for successfully negotiating a NAFTA deal that benefits Canadians in our most important trading relationship in the world, it’s hard to know how it’s going to work. Assuming the Trudeau government wants a deal.

Freeland’s appearance on Monday was part of the Women in the World Summit in Toronto, in her riding of University-Rosedale, where she was featured on the “Taking on the Tyrant” panel with American-Russian journalist Masha Gessen, moderated by Indigo CEO Heather Reisman.

The panel discussion was (and is) promoted online with an introductory video that portrays Trump as a corrupt dictator posing the same threat to democracy as Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, Turkish President Recep Erdogan, Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

It shows cheering Trump supporters followed by two shots of goose-stepping soldiers.

In this climate of mutual distrust, I would be surprised if a deal was reached any time soon. Otherwise who would Trudeau and his crew run against in the next election?

To be fair, legalizing the weed will keep Trudeau's supporters high enough to vote for him once again. Of course, this is in addition to screwing up our relationship with the US, wishing that enough Canadians dislike Trump to win even more votes..

Yes...standing up to Trump. The battle cry. Trump has wounded Canada and JT/Freeland are the heroes in the foxhole. A self-inflicted wound...but by golly...they'll hide those tell-tale powder burns from the public.

Dammit. I blame Trump for all of Canada's woes. I agree, let's start a war with America and let's show them once and for all as to who is the real boss here. LOL.

Dammit, where is my slingshot?

Well...in this case, a trade war. And be sure to paint horns on Trump so we know that he is really Satan.

On the contrary. America is suppose to handle Trudeau and Freeland with kid gloves because they are losing and can't stop crying. Trump is treating the world the way the world has been treating America and Americans for decades now. Trudeau and Freeland are all in it for themselves and their lefty liberal socialist anti-Canadian party with it's anti-Canadian programs and agendas that have done nothing good for Canada or Canadians at all. Trudeau and Freeland sure have you by the short and curly's. LOL.

I'm not a fan of Trudeau, never have been but he and Freeland are our team in this whether we like it or not. Are you sure you are a Canadian because you seem to delight in the prospect of your country failing. Or are you so hyper partisan that the possible consequences for your country just don't matter to you.

Geography is the engine of economics. It determines where industry grows and where trade flows. When Governments try to override the dictates of geography, it tends to impeed industry and trade. Much of NAFTA was designed to take advantage of geography. Much of our trade with the US occurs because the geographical circumstance makes it more efficient than trade over seas. The same applies to US trade with Canada and Mexico.

I wish that they were not a part of our negotiating team. Some of the protections that those two want are down right stupid and ridiculous. Gender equity being one of them.

Canada is not the country that I once knew and grew up in and not proud of anymore. It has been changed by the likes of Trudeau and Freeland and their leftist liberal ilk for several decades now who do not have the interests of Canada or Canadians in mind. If they did then maybe you can show me something? Give me something?

Besides, what are the stumbling blocks in these negotiations? Why aren't Canadians being told as to what they are and being kept up on what is holding up the talks? No doubt it is all being kept quiet by Freeland because in those negotiations there is more leftist liberal bull shit rather than real substance.

I am fed up listening to Freeland say that we are talking, all is going well, there are some disagreements, there are a few issues that need to be ironed out, but things are looking good. Well that sure tells me a lot, eh? You have to get it thru your thick Canadian skull that what these liberals are doing in these talks is not going to be good for you and me or Canada but more for themselves and their liberal elite pals. If you think that they are thinking about you and your concerns well I cannot be the idiot here. But you?  Well. Just saying.

They have been clear that dispute resolution and supply management are the stumbling blocks. All parties agree on Canada's position in these issues. Whether the negociations are resolved or not, trade will flow.

Much more the case for Canada and Mexico than the USA, which has a much more diversified export trade portfolio...China is now the USA's #1 trading partner....on the other side of the world.

I don't think so.....some Canadian interests think supply management should have been dismantled long before Trump's demands.

You should read your chart a little closer.

When it comes to US exports, China is a distant #3 behind Canada and Mexico. The US exports 2 1/2 times as much to Canada than it does to China. I'm quite comfortable with Canada ignoring Trump's BS deadlines and doing this thing properly. Pleasantly surprised actually, considering how many nay sayers were claiming Trudeau and Freeland would just fold like a cheap suit.

Canada US trade is basically balanced. China US trade is 80% one way in China's favour.
