The Case of Montreal

Recommended Posts

It hasn't been a year since it was pridefully declared a sanctuary city, and with the arrival of Haitians....... Montreal is groaning already! This is nothing. This is simply the beginning.

Influx of Haitian refugees taxes Quebec shelters, immigration minister says

The number of asylum seekers crossing the border from the United States into Quebec has tripled in the last two weeks, going from 50 a day to 150 and putting a strain on the province’s temporary housing resources, Quebec Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil said Thursday.

How can they be that shortsighted?  Didn't they know what entails being a sanctuary?

You wished for US/UK war crimes/terrorism because you knew they had lied their asses off. You knew that the US/UK illegal invasions of so many sovereign nations would cause a huge refugee program. You'd be one of the first chickenshits to flee a country that had US/UK war crimes/terrorism committed against it.

Instead you sit comfortable and whine about people who have had equal or worse things done to them than the Nazis did during WWII and still you support the evil.

“They flew out of their country after the earthquake and they don’t want to to go back there because there is no hope in the country. They are seeking some place to live,” she said. “Leaving with your children, it’s a very desperate move.”

It remains to be seen whether Canada’s Immigration and Refugee Board rules it’s enough.

Not a problem. It's handled. They'll be processed, maybe more quickly depending on which province they elect to go to.

About 60% may be successful.

Informative article. Thanks.

I can't see how Haiti is a "safe country" for them to return to:

The crisis hindered the Haitian government’s ability to meet the basic needs of its people, resolve longstanding human rights problems, or address continuing humanitarian crises, even as a new crisis emerged. In October 2016, Hurricane Matthew, a devastating storm, hit Haiti’s southwest. President Privert estimated the losses surpassed the entire national budget and warned of an impending serious food crisis, driven by the loss of crops from the storm.

As of August, authorities had failed to assist many of the 61,000 individuals still living in displacement camps since the 2010 earthquake to resettle or return to their places of origin, and many continued to face environmental risks and the threat of forced evictions. An ongoing drought affecting much of the country pushed the number of people living with food insecurity to one-third of the population.

Haiti’s cholera epidemic has claimed more than 9,300 lives and infected more than 780,000 people in five years. There were more than 21,000 suspected cases and, as of July, 200 deaths in 2016. Cholera cases surged in October in the communities most impacted by Hurricane Matthew.

It's  just one blow after another in Haiti since the earthquake. They'd be in displacement camps there, if Haiti even agreed to accommodate them at all.

We can accommodate 150/day somewhere in Canada.

More stunning hypocrisy from OftenWrong. This refugee issue is not a new thing. The US is responsible for virtually all these crimes against humanity that sees refugees move across the globe.

Not just shortsighted but stupid also. What else can we expect from liberals? Their brains are made up of straw. A bunch of no minds. 4000 illegal criminal so-called refugees have entered Canada since the beginning of 2017. This is what happens when Canadians just sit on their azzes and say and do nothing about this criminal activity. And this feminist PM of ours is responsible for this bloody mess. And we have approx. 2 more years of this fool running this country into a third world cesspool along with his muslim immigration monster who no doubt would love to have more muslims enter Canada legal or illegal.

These criminals are flying all the way from Africa into the northern states of the USA, and then they work their way towards the Canadian border, cross and shout "refugee". I am all for Trump but thanks to him we are now having to put up with the rejects that he does not want, and what a mess he has created for the tax paying Canadians. Your tax dollars at work. Enjoy.

There are millions of these so-called refugees all over the world trying to get out of their countries or camps in other countries. Canada can't take them all. Canada is taking way too many of these so-called refugees than we cannot absorb or want. The last thing Canada needs is more Haitians. They offer nothing to Canada only grief, and Canada has to give them welfare so they can eat and live. What a deal for Canadians.

The crisis in Haiti and of the Haitians is of their own making. After the earthquake billions upon billions of dollars and building materials in donations were sent to that country, and what have they done with all that money? Absolutely nothing. Haiti is nothing more than a corrupted country to live in where corrupt politicians steal all that they can from their people and the fools who keep sending them more money where that money is stolen and used by the politicians for their own use and pleasure.

The truth of the matter is that when France controlled that country all was pretty much in order. After the black Haitians started a revolution and started to massacre the white people and pretty much emptied the island of all whites that country went for a chit. No one goes for a holiday in Haiti today unless you are totally insane or a stupid liberal.

You certainly do have the mentality of a liberal alright. We cannot absorb and accommodate any more "refugees". Canada needs to round up all these criminal illegals and send them back from where they came from. Many of them tell complete lies so that they don't get sent back to their countries. Fine and outstanding refugees, eh? Only fools want more to come here, and I am afraid to say it but Canada appears to be full of fools, especially of the liberal kind.

The Dominican Republic is right next door. If they were affected in any way by the earthquake they pretty much survived it with any aid, and the DR is still a place where people like to go for a vacation. Aw well.

The stadium is overloaded allready, now they are opening more shelters.

He pointed out that between 250 and 300 people are arriving daily at the Canadian border, up from 50 a day in the first half of July.

Plenty of room in the subway for thousands more. Montrealer's won't mind if they have to take the bus instead of the metro. It's all for a good cause, right?  I can just see all of those new criminal illegals having access to the subway in Montreal. Those so-called asylum seekers will have lots of fun and time on their hands to go take a ride on the rails all over Montreal just for something to do while they wait for those sucker Canadians to try and find them a place to live. Dam we sucker Canadians are so accommodating and helpful, aren't we, and dam the cost. We are Canadian.

You say "only in Canada"? Pity. :o

They are coming in at the rate of around 300 a day.  Faith Goldie from The REbel Media counted 15 an hour, which is 360 a day.  These people have not been screened and I think it is fair to conclude they are economic migrants, fleeing poverty.  An immigration lawyer on CBC PnP was asked what he thinks about allowing them to stay because of poverty.  He thought they should be allowed to stay.  He was asked if that would open the floodgates.  He had no answer.   We know what the answer is.   Canada takes in a certain number of "refugees" a year and a large percentage of immigrants are allowed in after having been screened for their education, skills, language ability, etc.  to determine whether they will be able to support themselves and be a net asset to Canada.  If we bring in too many people who have to be put on welfare indefinitely, it could break our social services safety net, which is designed to protect Canadians.  There is no way Canada can just open the floodgates and allow thousands of people to come in to get on welfare.  We simply can't afford it without threatening everything we have such as old age pensions, health care, social assistance, unemployment insurance, and infrastructure.

I think it's unconscionable that we expect a borderless world as far as things like our money and corporations go but not human beings - who were still people too last time I looked.

This economic diaspora was predicted back when globalization was feted as the best thing since sliced bread. To bad we built a global economy first without a global government to help minimize its impact and make it more just.

We deserve what we've helped sow.  Same goes for climate change and conflict refugees - the lines around all of them are becoming so blurred it's hardly worth trying to distinguish between them.

Let's not kid ourselves; if you were a Haitian living in Haiti wouldn't you try to move to a more liveable country? I certainly would.

However, are these people being persecuted for ethnic, political or religious reasons or are they trying to escape the misery and hopelessness? If the latter then they are neither refugees nor asylum-seekers.

In that case I would say that France rather than Canada or any other country should be responsible to take them to their country because in the case of France they could pull out the colonialism-card.

Everyone should pull out their Earthling card.  Countries are a ridiculous throwback to a savage age we should be moving beyond. I mean c'mon, its 2017 for crying out loud.

Ok, borders between countries are artificial and everyone should move around as they wish.

Do you stop at the national borders? Do you have a house and a garden? If so would you allow me to come to your property and live there because it is artificial to have limits where people can live?

Or even if you live in an apartment in a tower-block. If I decided to come to live there with you would that be ok?

I wonder whatever happened to all those billions of donated dollars from all over the world that was giving to them after the earthquake? Where did it all go? It is not the Haitians who should be trying to leave Haiti it should be the other way around. it should be a paradise by now with all the money they received and where everyone would want to go visit or maybe even live there. But no one wants to go there. Cruise ships especially as far as I know. Nothing has been done to the place since the earthquake. Sadly, it would appear as though all that money sent to Haiti after the earthquake ended up in someone's pocket as it always seems to do. All the world that donated all those billions of dollars never seem to learn anything from the past. They always just get foolishly talked into giving money and made to feel guilty that if they don't cough up some money then they are being inhuman, and don't care.

I don't understand why Haitians want to come to Canada when the Dominican Republic is right next door? And there are plenty of other Caribbean countries around that they could go to also. Go to Cuba where they would probably be far better off than staying in Haiti. Let France take them. France doesn't seem to have a problem with allowing thousands of Muslims into their country. So, why not immigrate to France where they surely should be welcomed. Canada would be to expensive for them to live anyway. The Haitians that live in Toronto are all pretty much on welfare these days. And there is no more room or a future for more of them to come to Canada.  The building is full. Enough already.
