Its freaking disgusting to think we're sending people like you abroad to defend our values.

Our country's values are no better than the values of the people we send to kill in our name.

Maybe if people like you would get off their asses and contribute to our nation you'd have nothing to complain about...instead you sit in your lofty tree and fling shit like all the rest of the monkeys...

The SCOC has never once said Khadr deserves money.

Brokered deal....

Khadr's lawsuit has been in the courts since 2004 I believe, after CSIS egregiously and violated all Canadian principles of law and morality. Even the jail guards/interrogators at Gitmo could not believe their stupidity.

The courts always offer an opportunity to the parties to settle the money aspect outside the court, which just happened.

The gov could have left it to the court to decide the money question, but it would have cost them a whole lot more, likely the full $20m plus costs.

Harper already spent $5m fighting it.

Good try, but you're manufacturing your own facts. The legal costs are the costs incurred from the beginning of this affair which spans 15 years. And as we all know now, the Liberals are mostly responsible for this fiasco, from the time Chretien sprung the elder jihadist Khadr from prison. Then the Liberals sent interrogators to Gitmo to question Omar Khadr knowing full well that his Canadian Charter Rights were breached. It's no wonder they threw money at Omar Khadr and co. deflecting responsibility on Harper, hoping they can still win the next election in spite of their incompetence.

Quote

Khadr’s case over the last 15 years spans both Liberal and Conservative rule. Prime minister Stephen Harper and ministers with his administration vociferously denounced Khadr as a terrorist, but the Liberals were in power when Canadian officials interrogated Khadr in Guantanamo despite knowing the abuse he was facing.

Those interrogations were the basis for the unanimous 2010 Supreme Court ruling that Khadr’s interrogations “offends the most basic Canadian standards about the treatment of detained youth suspects.”

I can't make much sense of all that, except a lot of hatred and resentment of a 15 year old kid who was still very much under the care and influence of his very scary father at the time. His father had already threatened one son that he'd make him a suicide bomber because that son tried to defy him.

I can tell you right now that you are not going to like how this turns out. The SCOTUS ruling makes it very likely that Omar Khadr's appeal of his conviction will be successful, and Mrs. Speer's lawsuit will not be paid out.

You need to get a hobby ... or get active lobbying for better benefits for our veterans. Many Canadians have and will support vets in such endeavours.

Strangely, though, the Conservative warmongers like Harper et al, who loved sending you into battle, will not be the ones supporting your demands for better benefits. They'll be fighting you all the way.

You don't have to make sense of anything....this is my resentment and I own the burden it creates no one else....You can make all the excuses you want for Omar and his family that's on you not me.....

And your right , I don't like the way it has turned out....

I have a lots of hobbies but thanks for your concern.....Many Canadians do support our military and it's vets , just not the Majority of them....one day perhaps...

You should do some home work Liberals have deployed more soldiers in our history than all other parties put together.....Why is it that just the cons get the warmongers label.....

I've contributed thousand upon thousands of dollars and hundreds and hundreds of volunteer hours to my country.

To no good effect apparently.

Q: How many people have ever before been convicted and sued for the death of a  US soldier in active combat?

None, and yet it has been on the law books dating well past the WWII.....and according to you the law is the law.....

I think we just wait until the shooting starts myself.

You seemed to think I never get off my ass and I set you straight.  You figure your volunteer time is worth more than mine? You didn't volunteer shit, you're a paid killer.

Actually some of us preferred if our government did not send you over there in the first place. Then we would not be in this stupid mess. So getting off our asses is not going to do sh!t when the government will send troops under the the agreements we have with other NATO and alliance-ish members.

I did not want to send our troops over. The government did. What do you think I can do to change that?

Not necessarily. Your assumption completing ignores the court may have only decided to award a nominal amount.

You come on this forum to applaud terrorists and call Canadian soldiers paid killers. It speaks loudly to what an inexperienced child you must be to be unable to tell the difference.

Yah if you had your way we would sit in silence while terrorists terrorize until of course it impacted on you personally, then you would be the first screaming and whining demanding protection.

But a Canadian child forced into being a child soldier

Most of us don't consider him to be a Canadian at all, much less a child. You can claim him as one of yours, but the rest of us reject him.

And that's just it!  We wonder why feminists love Khadr, This is like all those cases where women get an attraction for the bad guy.  It's one of two things, either they see a damaged boy and want to protect him as a mother might, or it sexual - sometimes both.  Some women see Khadr as a Jesse James, John Dillinger or even Robin Hood type or character.  Ted Bundy had a huge female following, and Hollywood has always had an obsession with the loveable bad guy.  There is something exciting and romantic about being the woman standing with the mobster, outlaw biker or even pirate - today it's a terrorist.  We've seen it all through history.

Let's look at Khadr from a mother or lover's perspective; He's a good looking guy, he's dark skinned, he's gone into battle -as you 15YO, he's been shot, captured, tortured (as far as their concerned), he's fought as a rebel against oppression of his people (as far as their concerned), and survived, now 30 years old, now damaged, our Pm is basically hailing him as a victim and hero.  Luke Skywalker has nothing on this guy.  What more could a hum drum, go to work, go shopping, drive the kids to soccer, have wine and sushi on Friday western woman fantasize about if not this guy.

I don't know where Jacee fits into this, but it's good to see that you picked up on it too.

The trouble with our liberal friends is not that they're ignorant; it's just that they know so much that isn't so. - Ronald Reagan

Really. So now you resort to applauding yourself for allegedly involving yourself in charitable work.  Pathetic.

Even if what you said was true and you actually had left Mama's basement, it does not give you the right to denigrate soldiers and attack them personally while defending terrorists-all you have shown is you area privileged, spoiled elitist.

I stand by any soldier in Canada. That's the difference between us and thank God for that.

You're the one splitting hairs: Khadr was 10 when his father put him into AlQuaeda training camp.

And yet you expect us to believe that after five years of that in Afghanistan he wasn't a combatant...

Jealous much? :P

Some people consider one spouse more than enough.

Polygamy to me is nothing to be jealous of-its a recipe for schizophrenia-(hearing many voices at once driving one crazy).

The sentiment on this forum for Kadr is disgust not jealousy.
