waldo Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 So, I don't give a crap if Canada isn't invited to some meeting. And before the rest of you get your panties bunched up, maybe one of you could figure out what's really going on and come up with a strategy to deal with reality. it's a shame your post was purposely buried... clearly it was most inconvenient! meanwhile, that 'rest of you'... so upset over a meeting invite and perceived "allies" opinions... have rarely, if ever, channeled the slightest attention towards those "allied" enablers of ISIS, whether that's Saudi Arabia, Turkey... or those principals involved in the illegal invasion of Iraq. Wilber Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 (edited) So do you want troops on the ground? What I am saying is, if politicians set rules of engagement which make winning impossible, you aren't going to win. As a matter of fact, you are just wasting time and lives. The_Squid Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 Canadians don't care.... it's a good thing we're pulling our jets out. Hopefully we will now go further and pull out all our military assets. This isn't WWII. Those analogies are pure hyperbole and idiotic. Quote
Big Guy Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 Some people feel that the start of this conflict was Western oil policy, others believe that is was the New York 9/11 attack and yet others believe that it was the Crusades that began this. What everyone agree to is that the American invasion of Iraq was the trigger that escalated the conflict and began the unraveling of the balances of power in the Middle East. I do believe that if you broke it then you own it. If the USA had asked Canada and consulted before their invasion of Iraq and we agreed with it then we should be involved in these latest talks. Some believe that we were asked and said - "No Thanks!" If the USA had asked Canada and consulted before their invasion of Afghanistan and we agreed with it then we should be involved in these latest talks. We did agree to send approximately 40 Joint Task Force 2 (JTF2) assaulters to southern Afghanistan in early December 2001 as a "holding force" for the defeated Taliban. The rest is history. Now this thing is turning into an embarrassing fiasco the USA has decided to create a coalition to spread out the blame. We have not been invited to this last attempt to fix what is broke. We did not break it and have no responsibility to fix it. We were never consulted to create the problem and have no reason to bail out the USA. If and when the Americans want our help and advice about how to stay out of losing wars then we should be available to advise them. I hope this current government has the courage to get all of our troops back home and allow the Americans to take responsibility for results of their actions and own foreign policy. Quote Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.
-1=e^ipi Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 Russia is not an Allie, and has not really been bombing ISIS so much as other groups which were supported by NATO countries. Russia is not our ally, but Saudi Arabia is... Makes perfect sense... And you mean the NATO funded allies of ISIS? Maybe we shouldn't have funded wahhabist groups in order to fight a proxy war against Russia. Quote

The_Squid Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 Why is it hyperbole and idiotic? Because it is nothing like WWII. There is no world war. These extremists are quite limited in their size and influence and are contained. Quote
-1=e^ipi Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 Canada did not start this civil war and has no business in being part of it. Oh come on. Harper was one of the biggest advocates for funding Islamists in Syria in order to fight a proxy war against Russia. Plenty of blame lies on Canada. Quote

The_Squid Posted January 20, 2016 Report Posted January 20, 2016 Contained. Hitler was certainly contained. ummm.... no, he wasn't. Far from it. His influence was all over Europe and had millions of troops, an excellent navy and top-notch airforce. Are we talking about the same WWII? What the heck are you talking about??? Quote

Why would you deny help to Syrian civilians? You are washing your hands of this entire incident. Is that because it's contained within Syria? So therefore it's not our responsibility.
