I've been away from this thread for awhile.

I think it's clear that Ghomeshi was a sleaze bag living in a different Universe as normal humans. Who thinks showing a video of this consensual bruising he caused was "cool"?

But the CBC has to answer for allowing him to do his "thing" for so long. If you don't believe that the PM knew what Nigel Wright was doing there's no way you'd believe that the higher ups and the CBC didn't know that their top radio host was an absolute perv that was abusing staff.

So you're saying you don't believe the PM didn't know what Nigel Wright was doing?

Badly calculated gamble onf Jian's part. It was what pushed the Exec's to move right away.

First, they pretty much had no idea that he was beating up women. They would have never put up with that had they first hadn knowledge. Once they did, he was gone.

Secondly, the CBC HR people are not some hard fisted ruler who wants to cover and pre-approve every angle of

of its employees actions outside the CBC walls.

Could someone please take the troll-bait? It's sad when the poor guy is sitting home alone with no one to interact with.

Let's just move on... or let the thread go to sleep until more details emerge.

What do you mean just "move on" ? The alleged perv's actions aside, what kind of show is/was the CBC running ? Did budget cuts reduce oversight and common sense ? Didn't the CBC get the sexual harassment training memo like all the rest of North America ? Was annual training required and completed ? What kind of employment culture would enable an individual to believe that such behaviour would be tolerated for so long?

Economics trumps Virtue.

Hold on, didn't these allegations happen awhile ago. There was a lengthy investigation where he admitted to liking BDSM.

It would appear he was only turfed when the story was going to hit the media.

Bingo ! What did the CBC know and when did they know it ?

More to the point what did Harper know and when did he know his broadcaster was so far out of line?

This is clearly the state's fault.

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Not sure, I know there's no way to really prove it unless Wright admits he did.

What I'm saying is that either the CBC brass did know or should have known. That's the allegation leveled against Harper.

The new development is the video Gomeshi used "as defense" On his behavior.

Obviously he didn't check with his lawyer first ... who could have told him bodily harm cannot be consensual.

And CBC likely did.

Somebody posted something about troll bait - that's why I said move on. Please don't accuse me of trying to shut down the conversation. You should all know by now that that's not my intention.

You did say "let the thread go to sleep" that's why I found you comment bizarre.

Allegations maybe, but if you , as HR ,are aware of allegations and nothing shows up in the ask around, then very little anyone can do.

There was a lengthy investigation where he admitted to liking BDSM.

No doubt but BDSM in regular form (that which millions enjoy) is not harmful nor would or should set off any alarm bells.

Just know this, everyone has something they dont talk about w to co-workers.

It would appear he was only turfed when the story was going to hit the media.

The story was close to being scrapped. The media already had it and considered it a non-story due to no one coming out and admitting anything.

It was Gomehsi's own showing of a video to execs at CBC that turned them ash white and turfed himn the next day. Once they realized what his schtick was they had no choice but to boot him.

As much as some people resent their tax dollars going towards "state-owned" media corporations, I don't think they'll be able stick anything on the CBC with this one. It appears they acted fast as soon as they had a clue of what was really going on.

Oh but you forgot to include "state controlled". You know who will be correcting you on that soon.

Jian Ghomeshi has dropped his $55 Million lawsuit and as part of the settlement will pay CBC legal costs to the tune of $18,000. News today is that he is also facing four counts of sexual assault.
