If Omar was a soldier then he was a POW and if he was a POW then so were all the other captives in GITMO. A lot of political capital is invested in claiming otherwise. I'm okay with him being a POW as long as we hold him until the war is over, which is the norm. As I've said in a number of discussions on this subject the members of this faith appear to be much more receptive to extreme acts of violence being committed in order to "protect" and expand Islam than other major world religions of today. We not only see this in terms of violent Islamic movements all across the world, basically in every single country where a sizable percentage of the population is Muslim, but we see it in public surveys where the majority or even the overwhelming majority strongly support execution for a wide variety of offenses to Islam, including trying to leave that religion. If any cult had as a core belief that anyone who leaves it must be killed we'd outlaw that cult, but we don't seem to have a problem with it being central to the faithful in so many Muslim countries. When surveys show that 60%-70%-90% many Muslim populations support the death for blasphemy or insulting the religion, or trying to leave the religion, well, scuze me but I have a hard time separating out the 'moderates' from the 'extremists'. Those who supported him thought that he was a freedom fighter notwithstanding what nationality of people that he was accused of killing. Later he became the PM of Israel. His name was Menachem Begin. Was he a terrorist, a freedom fighter or a peacemaker worthy of the Nobel Prize for Peace? But when he was killing people he was a freedom fighter. No reason to show remorse for that. Israel is a model of freedom and religious rights - just ask the Palestinians. The conditioning to war in this country begins at the age of two, when we put our children in front of the one-eyed baby-sitter, and we turn it on and we go wash dishes or sweep the floor or clean the car and we teach them. Actually, little kids (I don't know if you've done this recently), they're bored with TV at first. You have to get them hooked on it. We teach them, actually, to watch television. And very quickly they learn. And then they get to where they're watching 10 to 15 to 20 shows a day, all of them the same show, the same story with different characters. I call it the "American Syndrome." I'm talking about ..... We're raising a little boy who's 12 now. And he's heard my lectures. And I have to sit down and watch some of his TV with him so I can understand. You know, he says, "Daddy, c'mere." So, we've watched, over recent years: HE-MAN, SHEENA, THE THUNDERCATS, SCOOBY-DOO, and now it's the NINJA TURTLES, and THE RAIDERS I forget. Always the same plot: Nice little people attractive, usually light-skinned or light- complected, who are put upon by ugly, dark, evil forces like Skeletor. And they always say: "Please be nice. We don't want trouble." And the evil forces always insist. And at the last minute they leap around and miraculously defeat the evil forces. Cut! Commercial! And we plunge back into the same story with other characters. Both to become Prime Minister had to renounce violence and terror and they did. The analogy BigGuy therefore used is nonsensical. They indeed did show remorse otherwise they could not have been elected and if they supported the same tactics they once engaged in they would have been arrested and placed in prison by the Israeli government. The Israeli government when a Palestinian was killed by Jewish extremists on the West Bank, had the killers arrested and placed in jail within days, and the Prime Minister of the country physically travelled to the Palestinian family of the dead boy, personally apologized, and now they receive state victim benefits no different then Israeli citizens whose loved ones have been killed by terrorists. The attempt by Big Guy to demonize Israel and advance this idiotic argument that since he believe Israeli is evil its fine what Kadr did, speaks for itself. It has nothing to do with the topic and raises a false comparison. Let's get this clear to those on this forum saying Kadr is repentant. He is not. Not sure about that... Christians by the millions supported the invasion of Iraq for example. A war where predominantly Christian armies killed hundreds of thousands of people after being sent to invade a country on false pretenses by a guy that said god told him to do it. I dont have any statistics handy but my guess is that Christians and Atheists and Jews have taken 1000 times as many lives over the last century than Muslims. They are much better equipped.
