I have been under the impression that status updates were not monitored nor moderated and now I see a lock on a status update. I've never seen that before.

I have seen much worse disrespectful posts under the status updates including some of my own and I have never received a warning for anything I've posted in the updates.

If spoilers are going to now be deleted in the status updates then perhaps other disrespectful updates should be as well. Can we be consistent here?

None of the mods responded to this. Is that because my feedback doesn't deserve attention? I repeated it under the status updates but I'm concerned that it will be ignored because it has nothing to do with spoilers.

And you're over-reacting to my removal of a 5-word long status update. Shady wasn't punished, wasn't given time off, wasn't given warning points. He received a polite explanation and a polite request to take it to the thread in the Arts and Culture forum. How is that an over-reaction?

Does Shady feel punished? Again, this is clearly your subjective opinion.......he did something that pissed you off and you used your moderation "powers" as retribution.

I'm not over reacting to anything, my reaction is to your own post in this thread in which you ask for our opinions on the mater........

I think your scoffing remarks that "it's just a show about wizards and dragons" might carry more weight coming from a guy who wasn't such an avid fan of shows about Mad Max and Jedi Knights and zombies. The term "spoiler" isn't "spoiler" by accident. It's a courtesy that goes back longer than the internet and longer than television. For as long as there have been books, it has been considered rude to give away the ending to somebody who's still reading it.

Nice deflection.........the problem with it though, I don't moderate on this forum.........furthermore, if someone did "spoil" a show it does not bother me one iota.........my sister in England would "spoil" Downton Abbey all the time for us, but learning both Matthew and Sybil died months early didn't ruin my life, nor put me into a cranky mess.....and I still enjoyed the shows with their deaths just the same.

(If someone knows who Negan kills spoil it for me, but do it pm or you might get banned)

From the reaction this has received, one would think this is the first time somebody's content was removed from the forum. "Over-reach!" "Abuse of power!" "Power trip!" That's BS. More worthwhile content gets removed for more dubious reasons all the time.

And that is the rub, you abused your moderation "powers" and removed something so petty.......

This was an easy call, and I promise that I'll do the same in the future if required. Any who are unhappy with that can either "speak to the manager", or take their business elsewhere. That's all you'll get from me on this.

AFAIK, BC2004 is/has done exactly that........but I'm curious, why so standoffish after asking for people's opinions on the mater? I assumed you actually wanted input from other members......

I have been on the receiving end of Kimmy's posts when I disagree with her. Kimmy can be vicious when things aren't going her way.

Come on Michael. Status updates are ignored and it's a free for all but all of a sudden spoilers are addressed? You are copping out.

I've never experienced it firsthand, quite the opposite usually, but this is a first......and it doesn't make mad, more disappointed.

None the less, everyone is entitled to off days...

Hey, Bryan, next time a big movie comes out, why don't you go watch the early show, then on your way out of the theatre, shout key plot twists at people who are lined up to watch the late show.

"HEY EVERYBODY! KYLO REN IS HAN'S SON! HE MURDERS HAN!"

And later on, after you've received the ass-kicking you desperately need, perhaps you'll have a broader perspective on the issue.

It wasn't shouted in someone face where they could not avoid it. It was posted online where people have the choice to go or not go if they want to avoid a spoiler. Only an idiot would go online AT ALL and not expect to see a headline or a blurb revealing SOMETHING that happened just recently. If not knowing a current event story is important to you, stay off the internet.

Kylo Ren though? I knew that 6 weeks before the movie was released. Most serious fans did, because they went on the internet LOOKING for spoilers. Spoiler-only sites make big money in all kinds of genres. It's a popular and very socially acceptable thing. It makes the experience more fun.

Here's another example: Game three of the Stanley Cup Final ended about an hour ago. If I post a status about it, is that a "spoiler"? For some it might be, but it would absolutely be their own fault if they saw it when they had chosen not to watch it yet. The game is over, there is no grace period.

I don't know man, I've gotta "gulp" side with Bubber here. The spoiler was posted where it could not not be avoided. If I can't come here without seeing spoilers, I just won't bother coming here. I suspect I'm not alone, therefore I think the mods have a responsibility to their site to remove such posts. If there is a GoT thread, spoil away!

It absolutely could be avoided... don't go online.

Also, it's pretty easy to avoid looking at the status updates way over on the side like that. I didn't even know they were there until very recently -- you have to intentionally look AT them.

All this fuss over a spoiler being deleted. Good God!

Wow...who knew that "TV shows" were so important to some folk....especially 'Murican TV shows.

A 'Murican show filmed in a foreign country, with foreign actors, and delivered to foreign audiences. 'Murica.

Don't feel so bad...I am sure that the world would pirate outstanding Canadian cable TV production more than GoT if any existed.

If you're different, fine, but that's inconsequential because the large majority of the internet disagrees and gets cranky and PO'd when people spoil shows/movies for them.

MLW isn't a free speech zone. Sometimes I wish it were, many other times I'm glad it's not. It was intentionally designed by Greg not to be. That's very clear since there's rules regulating our posting, such as respecting other posters and the like. In my books Kimmy is a freaking hero because finally somebody has the wherewithal and the balls on here to finally stand up and stop some of the disrespectful discourse that's going on around here from posters acting like immature attention-seeking toddlers that's turned this place into steaming pile of online manure.

She did all that.......by deleting a spoiler status update?

(I loved your post the though, it reminded me of Taxi Driver and Red Angel Dragnet.........hands up for Hollywood!!! Hooray)

Yes...it was very disrespectful dont'cha know...much worse than the very common personal attacks, name calling, profanity, shaming, and social justice indignation. Spoiling a TV show plot is actually worse than molesting children and animals...so I've been told.

all that... and more! You tried to belittle the spoiler removal by personalizing her action taken and reason for (your, "it's a show she liked" type comment); you tried to belittle the show as nothing more than fiction/fantasy; and by association you tried to belittle anyone who might have taken exception to the spoiler... or spoilers in general. The "more" is indirect resultant showcasing of the reactions and lengths taken by you and your proSpoilerCrew.

I don't feel bad at all. You're just acting like a goof for shits and giggles. So I'm laughing at your ultra nationalism schtick.

Vikings kicks GOT rear, anyhow...

I tried to get into Vikings, but I kept wanting them all to be killed in every battle.
