Such a warning does seem cheap --- assuming it actually happened. Far be it for me to read minds but I think maybe JBG is being sarcastic/humorous and people are not picking up on it. Regardless, nobody was issued a warning for cross-posting "Happy Canada Birthday!" Speaking of cheap, it is interesting to see how easily folks can be convinced of stuff that never happened. If you are able to share what did not cause a suspension then you might be asked to share what did cause particular suspension with the rest of the posters. It's a hobbyists' website nowadays. It was originally part of a project Greg did in grad school. That time has long passed. Though I do believe that many of the rules (no cross-posting, no images, trim your replies, etc) are a product of that original product. He may have been reporting people's posts in his project at the time and this made it easier to work with people's posts as "data." One thing that I think the moderators should seriously consider is revisiting the Forum Rules and Guidelines for the current state of the forum. Let's be honest though, that's probably never going to happen.

When I submit something as a letter to the editor, even to our local paper under my real name, then I can guarantee that about 10,000 people will read it - and get responses either by phone or opposing letters to the editor.
