There is no debate when it comes to the CBC, and I will continue to hammer the point home as often as I please. Ditto other topics without regard to other members' excitable sensitivities. There is nothing special about Canada or Canadians in this regard, just as some here think it is open season on 'murica and other nations.

Go ahead....again I can overlook easily......just sick of CA kissing your ass and telling us it's not troll behaviour and bemoan why some software add-on won't attract more posters. You are example 1A as to why this place is losing posters. Edited by Bob Macadoo

Apparently it an issue for you....good advice to just ignore. Another Great Troll Hunt bites the dust.

No, he's not. If anything is driving people away it is the basic nastiness of certain posters towards those they disagree with.

Exactly. We should all save our breath.

Perhaps no debate in your mind. But yes, no alid debate from you. We just like to play around with the big old troll guy.

At least Argus knows when he's being nasty. Frankly the aggressive nastiness and dogmatic proclamations of many posters on this forum has made me not even bother trying to discuss certain topics any more. Anything that touches on immigration, gender issues, religious issues, race issues, etc is swarmed by the "bigot police" who shout down any opinion that isn't 100% in line with the latest of their so called "sociological theories". And the people involved don't even realize they are being "nasty", they are just genuinely appalled to hear opinions that differ from what they constantly hear in their echo chambers, and post their genuine reactions that they think are only natural.

If anyone needs to be banned for "trolling" it should be the people that respond to long thought out posts with "bigot" and "racist" and the like.

I disagree, BC 2004 has been a member for years and like other members, has seen posters come and go....in my view, the flooding of tin-foil hats and "multiple IP account people" (I like that by the way) are far more offensive and/or off-putting than BC2004 on his worse 4th of July parade.

What is it that is supposed to be seen as problematic?

Frankly the most trollish things from my point of view on these boards are the several posters who hurl cries of "bigot" and "racist" every time they see something that is not quite up to their ever tightening standards of political correctness. I suspect those are not the posters you are thinking of when you think of who the "trolls" are. CA is right that there is no agreement here on who are the trolls. I suspect that most people interpret a "troll" as anyone whose viewpoint is so far off from their own that comments that they post seem outrageous.

That's not to say there aren't some trolls on this forum, or posters who sometimes post in a trollish manner, but there is certainly no broad agreement on who the trolls are. Many here point to BC2004 as a troll, but he follows the forum rules precisely and posts civilly. Yes, he has a pet topic that he interjects in many threads where it is only tangentially related, but it is the participants choice whether or not to engage in that line of discussion. And yet, they invariably do, so it must be something they want to talk about. Then there's posters like socialist, who deliberately comes up with a mockery of a far-left point of view on his pet topic of teachers and posts it here, and yet people seriously reply to those threads and there is sometimes reasonable discussion in those. Then there's all the CJPME anti-Israel trolls who do nothing but bash Israel, and yet it gives an outlet for everyone who wants to to discuss that ever polarizing topic. You'll note most everyone who disagrees (except for Rue, who keeps up the brave fight) has long since given up on responding to those threads.

I think you folks would all be best served by suggesting and rallying for other kinds of improvements to the discussion forum, rather than just whining about "trolls".

My vote for best post of 2015 ;)

You could add fascist to bigot and racist though........

Apparently you dont understand what troll means. Your buddy throws crap in here quite often where it doesnt belong because he seems to have this strange infatuation with Canada, CBC etc. And he gets away with it.

Sure I do.......In this very thread, what is the ratio of posts acknowledged and replied too between member BC2004 and yourself? There is your distracting troll.....

Nevr bothered to actually count. I reckon he must be up 3 or 4 to 1 though. And if you figure in impertinence, he is way ahead.

Just in the last several days, BC2004 hasn't responded once to you, all the while, you insult him (which is against the forum rules)......likewise, your off-topic exchange with Argus several days prior, which resulted in CA issuing a collective warning.......what exactly are you doing? Like they say about those that live in glass houses.........

It would seem, as pointed out by the site moderator, if you have issues with members Argus and BC2004 you should ignore them.......like they, and many others, often do with you.

That's fine, but I don't need CA in here taking a shit on my ice cream and calling it sprinkles. If you aren't going to do anything but tell us we're crazy STFU and moderate. He must think these trolls are good for traffic. You kinda made my point though........posters go.....not really come anymore......yet there he is with his shit eating grin.

Bob. Just because a poster has a different view from your does equal a troll. Perhaps you don't really understand what a troll is. A troll is a member who posts content meant to inflame and get an emotional response. If you get upset by a member posting within the rules then that's on you not them. Perhaps you'd prefer a site that only has your flavour of politic instead. Then you wouldn't need to listen to alternate opinions which would upset you. Food for thought. Edited by LemonPureLeaf

I'm no saint, and definitely not the turn-the-other-cheek sort of guy. I do try to be respectful if posters post respectfully. It's not always easy given there are a number of crazies here posting utter nonsense.

Yes. The person you're replying to is the worst of these. Absolute venom to the point you expect he would commit violence if he could find the people he's snarling at. It's why he's he sole occupant of my ignore list. But there are others, as well, and we all know who they are. Mos of them are posting to this topic, in fact.

And the people involved don't even realize they are being "nasty", they are just genuinely appalled to hear opinions that differ from what they constantly hear in their echo chambers, and post their genuine reactions that they think are only natural.

One such poster, known to post Nazi quotations to try and bait other posters he considers bigoted, went ballistic the other day after I used what I thought of as a fairly innocuous phrase. He didn't even know what it meant, but apparently he looked it up, got the wrong definition and started acting out like someone on drugs, windmilling his arms and running around a room screaming at the top of his lungs. Got the topic locked temporarily as he complained to anyone and everyone he could find and demanded I be banned.

If anyone needs to be banned for "trolling" it should be the people that respond to long thought out posts with "bigot" and "racist" and the like.

Agreed. If you aren't capable of respectful conversation you're a detriment to the site and we'd be better off without you.

Good cross section of all posters getting involved in the "troll orgy"!

By the power invested in me, I now declare this thread, "THE BATTLE OF THE TROLLS"

If Charles Anthony comes here and sais to stop, just ignore him. All he cares about is his 40' dock and smoking cigarettes.

Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Down over $1,500 in less than one year! Total fail of the moderation on this site! That reminds me, never ask Greg to be a business partner! NEVER!

To Bob - I believe that successful anonymous boards are run like successful bookie operations. A bookie is successful no matter who wins. The more bets - the more money - the more success. The idea is to promote as much "action" as possible. Trolls are good for traffic. Controversy is good for traffic. I have no doubt that the owner of a board will participate in his/her own board as some agitating avatar figure to get some "action" going. Short of that, he/she cannot afford to bar an aggravating poster.

Anonymous boards also draw a kind of disturbed type of person who has sociological issues. These people seem to enjoy upsetting others and should be pitied rather and denounced - or ignored as suggested by the moderators;

http://www.slate.com/articles/health_and_science/climate_desk/2014/02/internet_troll_personality_study_machiavellianism_narcissism_psychopathy.html

Personally, I enjoy reading responses where I can picture the poster as a spoiled chid, pouting and trying to get attention from the adults. I try to treat them the same as that child - ignore and eventually they find elsewhere to play.

Note - For those expecting a response from Big Guy: I generally do not read or respond to posts longer then 300 words nor to parsed comments.

There is no debate when it comes to the CBC,

You are right.

Its just that you get it so F***ing wrong each and every time.

Ergo boges 'CBC is "state controlled" is not a debate point it's to excite cyber or eyeball.'
