Woodrow Wilson was asked how long it takes him to prepare a speech. He replied:

“It depends. If I am to speak ten minutes, I need a week for preparation; if fifteen minutes, three days; if half an hour, two days; if an hour, I am ready now.”

I suggest that a corollary might be that the number of words required to present a case on a bulletin board are inversely proportional to the knowledge of the poster.

That appears to be the case on this board.

This is not a poetry contest.

Members posting ten-minute long posts is not really a problem here. This issue is a distraction.

I disagree.

You will rue the day you said that.

This forum needs a zero tolerance policy surrounding holocaust denial, under any of its forms, or 'finding the good' in Hitler, etc. Maybe it's just a troll, maybe the whole persona is, but it's embarrassing to be a member of a forum where that, or anti gay bigotry, etc. from a member is allowed to continue. No amount of 'truth' from that perspective can override the horrible acts they seek to down play, it is a discussion that has no value. It adds nothing to the forum, there is no need to protect it under the guise of free debate, and if I was affiliated with the forum in a management capacity I would be ashamed for allowing it to go on as it does, if I was not given a choice by ownership but to allow it to continue I would find another place to hang my hat.

Hey, Hitler wasn't so bad, maybe he only killed 5 million Jews! It's f'in disgusting MLW, what is wrong with you people for allowing it?

I don't have a problem with people self-identifying as idiots. Let them spout their nonsense. It's not going to convince anyone sane since they never have any facts or logic on their side. At least they're more honest than those who continually post angry denunciations of "Zionists" every day and pretend that has nothing to do with their feelings about Jews.

In this case it would be eliminating a troll.

Then ban the troll, but that does not happen around here. Which ends up to make the mods job more problematic because of their lack of will to actually deal with it.

Interesting how the status updates have a character max. Limiting posters' expression, no doubt.

You will find that most forums that ban trolls, don't actually accomplish that task. The troll simply takes on a new alias.

I think the character limit on the Status Update feature should be cut in half.

how about a simple MLW rules based directive on preferred posting acumen, one that speaks against verbosity (with or without a suggested character limit), as well as that most annoying practice where certain members choose to introduce 5+ lines of blank whitespace... (often multiple times within even a "shorter" post), to separate points being made. Oh and something that suggests there is no need for this kind of repeat nonsense!

It's easy to ban accounts. Harder to create them.

Hide Avatar Column From View

An optional display mode whereby the left-hand column that displays member avatars is hidden from view would allow more horizontal display space for the posts.

An optional display mode

Yes, a low bandwidth and low screen real-estate mode would be great, what many websites refer to as mobile mode. While I generally use these forums on my desktop, I occasionally hear some posters using their iPad.

Somebody will have to hold the door open for them, I guess.

Hi

You could add subforums for other languages: ex: français, espanol, arabic, etc....

You would need moderators in these langages.

It would allow people that doesn't speak english to discuss Canada subjects too.

It's an idea, if it's feasible ....
