I don't say they're not duck hunters, or whatever... but come on... I can't be the only one who sees through this ?

Also - honey boo-boo is a 36 year old dwarf, Darth Vader is Luke's father and UFC wrestling is fake....

You have obviously confused UFC with WWE, and confused Honey Boo-Boo with Tyrion Lannister. :P

Miley Cyrus isn't fictional. She's a real person. And no, I don't know of any groups boycotting or trying to get people to boycott her.

She's as real as the Robertsons, or as real as her publicist. Check out any petition site looking for her boot.

I don't think one should conclude that the whole duck hunting thing is an act because they don't wear their camouflage on vacation.

Criminy, Michael. If somebody saw you at the beach without your pocket-protector, would people be justified in concluding you're not a real web tech guy?

There are lots of pictures of them online when they're not in character. I would post them for you but I've never really mastered the art of uploading things on MLW (which probably serves you all well, I would've killed the "What Are You Listening to?" thread by now). Google it, it's all a game.

And on a personal note - I wouldn't like it one bit if a group of left-wingers played caricatures of what the right 'thinks' liberals are like on TV. Hugging trees, picketing, working at Starbucks, anything else you can think of that is typically associated negatively with the left when in actuality their own lives are nothing like that.

These sick Ducks are selling out their personal beliefs by perpetuating this stereotype. I'm not sure why conservatives have made them their pet project.

The yuppie clothing and the frosted hair though? Then suddenly he's a ZZ Top beard sporting, rough and tumble woodsman? Come on.

There must be a reason there's a show about them. They made it rich making Duck Calls, that's a compelling story to many. I'm sure the pics of them glamed up is a result of them becoming celebrities.

I always found it skeptical that they all could snag such attractive wives that act nothing like rural hicks, if they were always like they are on the show.

BTW I called this at the start that it was a publicity stunt.

Publicity stunt? This has hurt A&E's reputation. If it was a stunt, I don't think they were in on it.

There is no doubt that some of what they show on the TV show is created just for the TV show. The GQ interview touches on that aspect.

But again, to suggest they're actually a bunch of Yankee yuppies who just play southern hicks on TV doesn't wash, regardless of how many photos of them one can find without their camo on.

There are large numbers of Christians in America who believe homosexual acts are sinful. That might be an uncomfortable truth for some. Maybe it is easier to pretend that the guy who said those things is actually an urbane actor just playing a character. I think that's a stick-your-head-in-the-sand approach.

I'm sure there'll be an episode in the coming season dealing with this issue.

A&E has a reputation? If it does, it's just a bit above TLC. Channels that used to be educational that have turned into mostly trashy reality TV. At least A&E shows "some" movies and syndicated scripted TV.

I think they're conservatives and their beliefs are real, they're just playing a caricature stereotype of a southern redneck for show. You can be a clean cut MBA with nice hair and at the same time believe that homosexuality is a sin.

That's why I said I wouldn't like this stereotype of my ideology being perpetuated like that if I were conservative.

It's like a 1900's freak show.

Duck Dynasty is only the most recent example of cashing in on Redneck.

Beverly Hillbillies anyone?

Exactly. It's all fake. It makes you wonder how real YOU are. After all, I really WAS smiling in that family Christmas photo wasn't I ? That couldn't have been real....

These odd quandries about what is real and what is not may be a symptom of a shift in dominant media modes. Check out Neil Gabler's 'Life the Movie' for a longer treatment on these things.

There are definite parallels in mythology and folklore...

Why not ? Do you think it is any better to be stereotyped as an unemployed, pot smoking, abortion loving liberal ?

I'm perplexed. BC_Chick clearly DOESN'T think the leftist trope is any better and said so right off... am I missing something here or are you just playing with me ?

You still don't recognize chronic trolling behaviour?

It's not that complicated...I asked another member a direct question about why the stereotype should not be "perpetuated". You assumed your post already answered my question to another member. It did not. And now another member wants to pile on with insults....thanks.

No it's not all fake. The business is very much real. So is the duck hunting. I'm not sure why posting a picture over 10 years old makes things happening now any less real.

Yes...it is strange. Maybe the criticism is now directed at this family's business success, achieved long before A&E came along.
