Shady Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 Big news! Phil Robertson is rumored to be look to move the Duck Dynasty show to a new network after the A&E situation. Possibly a Christian channel that he says would be more in line with is views. A&E could end up losing their goldmine after all. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2532766/Duck-Dynastys-Phil-Robertson-hatches-plot-family-rival-TV-network.html Quote

A&E would lose their cash cow and the Duck people would lose the exposure that A&E brings. But if he's doing it on principle then it's his choice to do so. Boges Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 Well, I would assume that viewers would just flip to the new channel. I believe there are Christian channels on Basic Cable in the US. There certainly are a few here in Canada. I think a winner for them would be to move to a Fox owned channel. Quote
Michael Hardner Posted January 3, 2014 Report Posted January 3, 2014 Well, I would assume that viewers would just flip to the new channel. Right - but I don't think those channels have the same reach as mainstream cable. Just a guess on my part, but unless he gets on Pat Robertson or something huge like that, I can't think of a channel that is a household name. TV channels don't just become popular on their own. Too most AMC is some obscure premium cable channel, but because it carries Breaking Bad, Walking Dead and Mad Men it's become wildly popular. Like I said about Willie ( and not you)...he aint that stupid They already do quite well with their business. Waiting a little while for a new network would be no big deal. 200 million? A&E ended up folding so I suspect they don't have the leverage Guyser thinks they do. A& E are smart enought to know the cash cow that is DD. They tried (or perhaps stunted) to assuage their irate viewers....all 42 of 'em. Now, A&E also resigned the boys and locked them in. A&E earn $80M a year on the TV and $400M in merch.(sales or profit I do not know-suspect it is sales) Do the math boys, do the math . Shady's post is full of someone who hasnt the faintest clue how contracts work. They refuse to work or honour the contract, then they cannot go anywhere. They dont go anywhere then they dont make any of the monies stipulated in the contract. Waiting a year or two or three only means they have delayed the contractual obligations for another year or two or three. By that time someone else bigger dumber and funnier will have come down the pike. Witnes the NHL star... I think it was the Ottawa Sen player from eons ago, he walked, his contract gets put on hold, he thought it would just expire after sometime elapsed. Nope, still valid, just suspended. He was still property of the original team. It aint rocket science. And yeah they were wealthy before, thanks captain obvious, of course no one was saying anything different. But its likely they cannot afford the penalties to get out of it. They may not be that rich. Edited January 3, 2014 by Guyser2 Quote

A&E would lose their cash cow and the Duck people would lose the exposure that A&E brings. But if he's doing it on principle then it's his choice to do so. Well it goes without saying that they are under contract with A&E. By the time that contract expires all this could be water under the bridge. Right now the way I see it, Robertson is signalling that he's got a right to free speech on his own time, and A&E is signalling that he needs to monitor what he says while attached to the A&E brand. It's a bit of a power struggle, and both sides have a point. No doubt clear heads will prevail, nothing wrong with making allowances on both sides to preserve a cash cow tv show. Quote

But likely ( and I stress that part) there is a version of a morals clause they invoked which precludes Phil making these types of speeches/talks. No doubt clear heads will prevail, nothing wrong with making allowances on both sides to preserve a cash cow tv show. And therein lies the whole truth. A&E wants the cow to continue producing the milk. The Robertson clan wants the $200,000 per episode. They can afford to let the contract go on and die, but they likely arent rich enough to buy it out. Phil et al didnt get their money by being dumb. Quote

Maybe, maybe not……Their new partnership with Mossberg, which will see a reproduction of various Mossberg firearms under the Duck Commander label as opposed to Duck Dynasty could facilitate the financial requirements for such a move……. If the ducksters leave A and E, they'll just start another redneck/hillbilly show with lots of guns, explosions, beards, atv's and heavy southern slang! Those characters are a dime a dozen. There's nothing to those kind of shows! This Phil guy is going to be shooting himself in the foot if he leaves AnE. WWWTT Quote Maple Leaf Web is now worth $720.00! Case in point their duck hunting series called Duck Commander. Very successful and popular. Wasn't on A&E. Quote
