Topaz Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 One can't tell by looking at this guy but he has a Master's in Education and a degree in physical education. I agree, everyone is entitled to their views but he became a reborn Christian after his adventure with booze and with a Master's he should know more about things that can happen while a woman is pregnant and what really causes a person to be born Gay. So if God made man, then is it God's mistake in making all humans if someone turns out to be Gay or is it a mistake or just different from most humans? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phil_Robertson Quote

Boges Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) DD is the top "non-fiction" cable show. As if these obviously scripted reality shows can really be described as "non-fiction". Edited December 23, 2013 by Boges Quote
bush_cheney2004 Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 A&E knew damn well what this family was all about, including Phil's specific religious leanings and previously expressed beliefs about homosexuality. Phil should continue to hold his ground based on his constitutional rights, and we will see if A&E can figure out how to continue milking this evangelical family for high cable TV ratings. Wilber Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 I don't see how his constitutional rights have been violated but A&E had built itself a pretty mess. Quote "Never trust a man who has not a single redeeming vice". WSC

This has nothing to with any constitutional rights. Companies do not like to associate with people publically say things that are not conducive to their brand image. Its not different than sponsors dropping Tiger Woods because he banged a bunch of porn stars, or hollywood producers shunning Mel Gibson because he went on a rant about Jews. Or Justine Sacco.... Justine Sacco, formerly a senior communications executive for U.S. Internet giant InterActive Corp., has been fired from her job after tweeting, “Going to Africa. Hope I don’t get AIDS. Just kidding. I’m white!” from her Twitter account shortly before she flew to South Africa Friday. bush_cheney2004 Posted December 23, 2013 Report Posted December 23, 2013 A&E might be making a stupid business decision here, but this has absolutely nothing to do with freedom of speech. A&E and its sponsors are free to make any production choices they wish, and we already know what choice they made with the DD family and their beliefs. Why just a "suspension" if A&E is so concerned. Cancel the show...advantage Phil. Phil can legally say whatever the hell he pleases, and he doesn't need A&E to do it. It's not like he lives in Canada...land of HRCs and hate speech laws. Otherwise you'll find yourself in front of a HRC for no apparent reason. See McLean's magazine as an example. Although there are others. WWWTT Posted December 24, 2013 Author Report Posted December 24, 2013 The best part of this guys rant is where he sais that the US Christians are rallying behind a fake image! It's really pathetic to see that the US right is all up in arms about a fake made up act that is in the middle of a publicity stunt! Actually it's funny! It reminds me about a story I heard, apparently back in the sixties, some people in the US requested the US navy help search for the survivors of the shipwreck SS Minnow from Gilligan's Island! Now I thought that would have been more than likely a rumor, but now, after seeing the link that I provided, you've got to wonder? And to just imagine, Sarah Palin, a vice presidential candidate, is rallying behind a fictional character?!?!?!?!?! God forbid she run for president! If that ever happened, God help us all! Michael Hardner Posted December 24, 2013 Report Posted December 24, 2013 The problem is that these people are not real, nor unreal. What is this person ? Is he the swampy hillbilly character that they designed for the show, or the pretty MBA type who appears in the family photos ? In a way, it doesn't matter because the public persona is just meant as fuel for the furnace that is the public entertainment machine. Monty Cantsin said "Bread feeds the hungry, video feeds the full". And even this controversy is a dull kind of entertainment for those who would rather have a meta-discussion than to watch the actual show. And even this controversy is a dull kind of entertainment for those who would rather have a meta-discussion than to watch the actual show. He's both, a so-called "swampy hillbilly" ( I can't believe that term is still acceptable in today's PC culture, I guess it's still the only acceptable form of stereotype still allowed. Funny how that works.) and an MBA "type". The family is real. That's part of the appeal of the show, and why people like it. I think at first A&E thought people would watch to laugh at them. But instead they watched and laughed with them. It kind of backfired. Quote
