WestCoastRunner Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 (edited) The film was different enough and done very realistically with believable humour and drama. Dirty Fred needs to bring his theories on here. I was coveting having him as a poster here Yes, I could see him contributing to environment issues! If I had to compare him to someone here, it would have to be Eyeball. Edited December 6, 2015 by WestCoastRunner Quote I love to see a young girl go out and grab the world by the lapels. Michael Hardner Posted December 6, 2015 Report Posted December 6, 2015 ... it would have to be Eyeball. Maybe for point of view, although eyeball is a little wiser and probably 2.5X older... this is not an insult. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner

Guest Posted December 15, 2015 Report Posted December 15, 2015 (edited) I watched Snowpiercer last night. The film has received incredible reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, which almost always means I come away a little disappointed. However, I really liked this movie. It's a visually pleasing action flick with a good balance of absurdity and intelligent societal commentary. It was adapted from a graphic novel and the film and characters really do retain that graphic, caricature feel. For me it was sci-fi escapism at its best. Edited December 15, 2015 by Guest Quote
kimmy Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 My fear is that political correctness ruins the Star Wars series as well. Considering it's a Star Wars movie, I think it's more reasonable to be worried that merchandising will ruin it. ("Meeza Jar Jar Binks!") Considering it's a JJ Abrams movie, I think it's more reasonable to be worried that excessive lens-flares and "BWAAAAAM. BWAAAAAM." sound effects will ruin it. But so far the reviews seem to be overwhelmingly positive. -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)
kimmy Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 My fear is that political correctness ruins the Star Wars series as well. I'm also kind of curious as to how that would actually happen. I mean, like, are we talking "I didn't like it because that new Jedi guy was swarthy, and all the old Jedi were white?" -k Quote (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ Friendly forum facilitator! ┬──┬◡ノ(° -°ノ)

Of the new characters: Rey is the new "star" and the actress did a great job......Kylo Ren is like Darth Vader meets Tarantino villain, the new (conflicted) evil.......Finn had a few good lines but (IMO) was almost forgettable in the second half of the movie.......Poe Dameron, we should be so lucky, we will have more of.......The little droid BB-8 will be a favorite with its mannerisms like R2 mixed with an Ewok/Jawa.......I won't speak to the originals for fear of spoiling something, other than to say Chewbacca had a more "vocal" role.........Oh and Daniel Craig was one of the Storm Troopers (see Jedi Mind Tricks) From what I understand, Abrams won't be involved in the next one (or a key cast member ) and thats probably a good thing.......... Big Guy Posted December 19, 2015 Report Posted December 19, 2015 Asked a 5 year old last night what movie they would like to see. He replied, "That latest Star Wars movie about those four black guys!" Puzzled, I asked "What movie is it that you are talking about?". He replied, "The Four Jamaicans". Guest Posted December 20, 2015 Report Posted December 20, 2015 (edited) He replied, "The Four Jamaicans". I didn't get it until I said it out loud. Well played sir! Though, I didn't get it until Kimmy suggested we say it out loud. As for the movie, I've seen it and won't spoil it here. It's alright, better than Lucas would've done and much better than I expected. However, as I said to my fellow nerd friends afterwards, "Do you even think the original three were that good?" There were audible gasps and angry faces, but come on aren't we really just sentimentalizing 3 kitschy B movies? (I had to use spell check on the word kitschy) After that comment, I'm not sure if I'll be invited when Star Trek comes out, but the trailer suggests it will just be an action flick and the franchise will have to take a siesta, again. Still, I do like the Beastie Boys. Edited December 20, 2015 by Guest Quote
Guest Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 I'm a fan of both Amy Schumer's comedy and activism, and finally got around to watching Trainwreck last night. I had heard good things, but I have no idea why. It was a train wreck. Slow, long, boring and unfunny. There were many obviously ad-libbed scenes, which I tend to look forward to, unfortunately the results were just plain dull. I wanted to like it, I wanted to defend it, but I can't it was just bad. Moonlight Graham Posted December 21, 2015 Author Report Posted December 21, 2015 Dr. Stranglelove. 7.5/10. Adequately entertaining, only mildly funny, cool ending. Quote "All generalizations are false, including this one." - Mark Twain Partisanship is a disease of the intellect.
eyeball Posted December 21, 2015 Report Posted December 21, 2015 But just as quirky. I guess I better check it out. I just watched The Adjustment Bureau. Matt Damon and Emily Blunt. Romance, chase scenes, metaphysical dictatorship. Not what I was expecting. I liked it. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

overthere Posted December 27, 2015 Report Posted December 27, 2015 The Big Short How do you make a move about the 2008 global financial/housing crisis interesting? With some humour, a narrative voice, and some explanatory segments featuring people you wouldn't connect with the topic, like Selena Gomez.. Oh and with an excellent script based on a book by a fine contemporary writer , Michael Lewis. He also wrote Moneyball, The Blind Side and Flash Boys, winners all. Recommended!
