Sleipnir
"Margaret Thatcher, one of the most important British politicians of the 20th century, died Monday morning after suffering a stroke. She was 87. Thatcher was the first woman to become U.K. prime minister and Britain's only prime minister of the 20th century to win three consecutive terms. After leading the Conservatives to victory in the 1979 election, Thatcher shook Britain to its economic roots in a relentless battle to restructure the country." Regardless of political stripes, It sad to see another icon leave us soon after Ralph Klein, but I guess that's the circle of life. How do you remember her? Or what do you remember her for? eyeball
Helping to put the economic pedal to the metal that's driven the world to the brink of financial collapse. The silly twit.
Wilber
Britain was on the brink of economic collapse. Like every other politician, her accomplishments are a mixed bag but she was what the country needed at the time. She had the guts to take on the British Disease and just about anything else for that matter.

-TSS-
There really has been a mixed reaction in Britain following her death. Such a reaction was totally to be expected. many people have eulogised the great leader when as simultaneously there are news-reports of people dancing in wild celebrations in the streets of Brixton and elsewhere in London. I wonder what the reaction has been in Buenos Aires. Having said all that, she surely stood out for her own country on the international stage, something which can not be said of the current leaders in Europe. She's responsible for some of them having to work for a living. What terrible people. Indeed. Thatcher Death Celebration shows generally young people with a smattering of old hippie types. Even here in Canada and in other countries other than the UK, my younger acquaintances have been generally unkind to her on this day. Odd...disturbing in many ways. In no way have they ever been affected by her or her government...other than being integral to ending the Cold War with President Reagan and friends, of course. I bit my tongue. Guest
Actually, Nelson Mandela told my cousin's servants that if they killed her, they could have her house and land. I guess it would have served her right.
Guest Derek L
Actually, Nelson Mandela told my cousin's servants that if they killed her, they could have her house and land. I guess it would have served her right. Exactly.........My wife’s family kept actual assault rifles in the home for fear of ANC guests……….And the British stance on Apartheid wasn’t one of support, but one of negotiation on the liberalization of it’s policies, all the while it playing the anti-communist bulwark in Sub-Saharan Africa……… But back on topic, the Iron Lady will be (has been) missed. jbg
RIP to one of the great leaders of our time.I concur. One of her greatest quotes was words to the effect of "the Continent (of Europe) brings all the problems; the English-speaking people bring all the solutions." Wilber
Longest serving prime minister since the 18th century. Small wonder there is a mixed reaction. Love her or hate her, she will go down as one of the most influential prime ministers in British history.
-TSS-
It really beats the hell out of me how many Finnish youngsters, many of whom weren't even born before Nov 1990 when Maggie resigned, take such delight in her death. Just reading the facebook-profiles. After all, had it not been for people like her, we in Finland would be in a much more jeopardised position than we are now. The Soviet Union collapsed mainly because Reagan and Thatcher called its bluff.

I guess when you are right, there are laws that apply to you,and another set of laws that apply to other non whites! WWWTT
