Today council passed two special motions, one to suspended the power of the mayor to “appoint and dismiss the Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee Chairs. and another to strip him of emergency powers. the votes passed 39-3 and 41-2 respectively (with both Ford's voting against both).

The kicker? Ford is promising to sue the city, something Mr. respect for Taxpayers admits will cost the taxpayers a bunch of money, but hey, he's Rob f**king Ford. "I have to support myself."

What I saw yesterday was an abused woman but on display by a sick man, a very sick man in a desperate move. The flinging himself through the front door when he could have walked out the back-that was the move of an aggressive man attacking like a bull and using his wife as a shield. You can't get more f..cked then that. There is zero doubt in my mind he is going to kill someone while drunk behind the wheel or lashing out in a rage. The only ending coming is either a tragic one where someone else dies, or Ford kills himself in a car accident or from a massive seizure. I am telling you as blunt as I can. Even if you could get him into rehab. and convince him to take certain medications and stay clean, the strain of the withdrawal on his heart will trigger a heart attack or stroke. He's a walking dead man.

Wow.

Thanks for your insights Rue.

I felt the same about his wife, especially when he dragged her through the scrum.

All that can be done is to try to contain and minimize the damage.

The Council is moving to reduce his powers as Mayor.

His private life is another issue.

I have a serious concern that the police have knowingly allowed Ford to drive around the city drunk or impaired by drugs.

I also think that if they had charged him for buying drugs from Lisi one of the many times they saw that interchange, we wouldn't be where we are now.

Ford is not good, however, he did something for tax payers.

Those who keep trying to knock him are much worse then Ford, because what they can do is only blame others and take tax payers money, don't do anything for those who feed them tax dollars.

I would rather a person with shortcoming but do real things.

Not just Rob, Doug too:

Councillor Ford stood up and wondered how much a legal challenge to the motion would cost the city, suggesting the Fords are ready to fight the motion in the courts if it is passed.Look forward to challenging [it], Doug Ford said to Kinastowski.

Rob's drunk-drugged-denial is one thing, but his brother Doug with his career aspirations? ... you would think that by now he'd stop engaging in the same self-destructive denial and attack behaviour as Rob.

Sue the city?

Bizarre.

And Rob ... "I have to support myself" ?

Nobody's taking his paycheque away.

And doesn't he earn money from the family business anyway?

No sympathy on that issue.

Show me evidence that supports your claim: I doubt you can.

Ford has been abusing taxpayer money by using his office budget for personal items and using his staff as personal servants for him and his family and his (former) football team.

He's shown no respect whatsoever for taxpayers.

For the province to pass any law now to remove Ford from office would require a majority vote and there is a minority government situation.

As Wynne has alluded to, such a bill would require all-party support precisely so as to avoid any apperances of partisanship behind the act.

More to the point the current Premier understands the optics involved in not being elected as Premier...

Of course she was elected premier; when the budget passed back in June.

Don't insult all kings in that manner. Even Edward VIII had the decency to abdicate when directed to do so by his governments.

And Charles I dismissed Parliament for eleven years. Didn't end very well for Charlie.

I think there should be a mechanism whereby a council can direct a mayor or councillor to take some time off until they have dealt with personal problems that are obviously having a negative affect on the city and their ability to perform their job. It should have a very high threshold though, something like 80% or more in favour.

“If I would have had a mayor acting the way I conducted myself I would have done the same thing,” said Mayor Ford, but he lamented that it was going to cost taxpayers “an arm and a leg” when he fights it in court.

Rob Ford loses key executive powers in 'unprecedented' city council vote but promises costly court challenge

'I would've done the same thing to someone else like me, but I'm going to fight this now beause it's been done to me'... Is it possible for this man to ever make sense??

What a loser crybaby.

Mayor Rob Ford says he's going to hold every item until his "dying day" on the council floor #TOpoli

------- @mrsinisterlefty @reporterdonpeat councillors can put hold on items. They then get moved to next meeting I believe

I would think this would make council non-functioning, and they could get the province to help.

Rue, you need to append a TL;DR line at the end of posts like this. I can't imagine anyone reading that entire wall of text.

I watched the Jon Stewart skit 3 times and couldn't stop laughing. Honestly, Ford is just too stupid to be mayor. The 8 second delay between when he was asked whether he had bought illegal drugs in the last 2 years and his answer was bizarre.

I think he was mentally trying to add up the total amount he'd paid for illegal drugs and gave up.

Toronto: Im a bloated monstrosity, a dysfunctional, factionalized juvenile mess thats in way over its head just like my mayor.

All of this seems like highly unfair criticism. "Canada's Party Mayor" has brought Toronto the international spotlight that it has always craved! Ford is helping do away with that stodgy "Toronto the Good" image and create an image that is more current, sort of like the fictional city of Los Santos in "Grand Theft Auto".

Andrew Coyne summed the situation nicely.

And of all his enablers, the most culpable are the strategists, the ones who fashioned his image as the defender of the little guy, the suburban strivers, against the downtown elites, with their degrees and their symphonies — the ones who turned a bundle of inchoate resentments into Ford Nation. Sound familiar? It is the same condescending populism, the same aggressively dumb, harshly divisive message that has become the playbook for the right generally in this country, in all its contempt for learning, its disdain for facts, its disrespect of convention and debasing of standards. They can try to run away from him now, but they made this monster, and they will own him for years to come.

If only the citizens in general could see things as clearly as Mr. Coyne.
