The radical right and the radical left are fraternal twins and it would be difficult to tell the difference but for the fact they despise each other and they are recognizable by the fact they both appeal to the government to crush the other. The moderate right and left and the centrists are not particularly calling for big government although it is difficult to stop it's growth because they hold different views of the role of government and neither will cede ground already won for their ideological concepts and their understanding of the role of government in society. In recent tradition, the right are minimalists and the left prefer some government intervention in society. It hasn't always been that way. The classical liberal, and liberals have always sat on the left side of the political spectrum, were the minimalists. They became the progressives (socialists) over a period of time in the first half of the last century. The radical right, the Nazis and Fascists, are socialists as well and most of them have their roots in the radical left.
