Shady Posted April 11, 2011 Report Posted April 11, 2011 I personally think he was quite wrong in promoting books by a rabid conspiracy-theorist and anti-semite. But his admirers decided to give him a pass for that; unless they agreed with the sentiments, of course. I knew that Van Jones was a conspiracy theorist, but I didn't know he was an anti-semite. No, but he's a good example of how no lie is too ridiculous when a black guy gets too powerful for you. bloodyminded Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 Who? As I noted earlier, Glenn Beck this morning had some kind words for Elizabeth Dilling's 1934 anti-communist book, The Red Network, saying: "This is a book -- and I'm a getting a ton of these -- from people who were doing what we're doing now. We now are documenting who all of these people are. Well, there were Americans in the first 50 years of this nation that took this seriously, and they documented it." As I also noted earlier, had Beck taken just a few moments to Google Elizabeth Dilling, he would have discovered that she was one of the more prolific anti-Semites of the mid-20th century. It just so happens that Dilling has her own entry in The Encyclopedia of White Power: A Sourcebook on the Radical Racist Right, edited by Jeffrey Kaplan. Here are a few of the highlights: In her later years, Elizabeth Dilling played the role of the grandmotherly, blue-haired old lady who could always be counted on to respond to a mail solicitation with a few dollars for a variety of anti-Semitic causes. Older members of the American racist movement knew better, however. Dilling was the author of several of the most scurrilous attacks on Franklin Roosevelt and his administration to appear in the interwar years. [...] Elizabeth Dilling graduated from the University of Chicago, and after a visit to the Soviet Union in 1931 her life changed. The experience made of her a passionate anticommunist. She soon became convinced that Jews were responsible for the communist movement, and a fanatical anti-Semite was born. http://mediamatters.org/blog/201006040047 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elizabeth_Dilling Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings
Michael Hardner Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 I think Beck's drift towards the anti-Semitic fringe, coupled with his lowering ratings, is what did him in. Quote Click to learn why Climate Change is caused by HUMANS Michael Hardner
Shady Posted April 22, 2011 Report Posted April 22, 2011 http://mediamatters.org/blog/201006040047 I'm not suprised that Media Matters is behind this. I'm still trying to figure out what the issue is. Ok, so Glenn Beck didn't google her to know more about this person. I guess he probably should do that from now on. How is this any different than the NDP heralding the bigot/racist and and pro-eugenics Tommy Douglas? Except of course the NDP know all that, yet still champion him. While Glenn Beck was unaware of this woman's past. Quote

While Glenn Beck was unaware of this woman's past. I haven't anywhere championed Douglas, nor am I scrambling to defend his honour as you seem predisposed to do for Mr. Beck. You know Glenn Beck "was unaware of this woman's past," presumably because he says so. That's strong evidence. But if he read the very material he claims he did, he must know that she was a wild-eyed conspiracy theorist of the "Commie Jews!" type, an historical belief cuurently held only by White Supremacist groups. Oh, and by Glenn Beck. Edited April 22, 2011 by bloodyminded Quote As scarce as truth is, the supply has always been in excess of the demand. --Josh Billings

Shady Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 I haven't anywhere championed Douglas Well, maybe you haven't personally, but he was voted Canada's greatest Canadian. nor am I scrambling to defend his honour as you seem predisposed to do for Mr. Beck. I'm not defending the honour of Glenn Beck, I'm just guessing that he was probably ignorant to all the facts. Personally, I couldn't care less of Beck. Quote

bloodyminded Posted April 24, 2011 Report Posted April 24, 2011 (edited) Mr. Beck wasn't voted the greatest anything. Maybe he should have championed eugenics instead. Since he's shilling for Nazi sympathizers (literally), you might guess it's implied.
