1. Liberals are the epitome of "do as I say, not as I do". Even with climate they talk the talk but don't walk the walk. I don't particularly like Liberals, stretching back a long time. They are arrogant elitists who think they know better than anyone. The NDP, Greens, and the Bloc at least care about their principles more than winning, which I can respect. Which is why they'll never win i guess.
2. The Liberals do well because: 1. they elect true bilingual leaders from Quebec, which the Quebecois like. 2. They appeal to the left-of-center political sensibilities of the urban voters of Quebec and Ontario. That's usually enough for them to take the election. Maybe Pierre Poillievre's French name will get him some play in Quebec. Jagmeet Singh should change his name to Jean-Luc Francois.
3. That's an insane legal decision Under what law are they basing this on? The courts just decide what they want and make up legal justification for it later. The Charter has no teeth. And what happens when the state doesn't provide adequate health care? It's odd to ban health practitioners from making people healthier, while doctors have a right to kill fetuses and people who want to commit suicide.
4. Yeah I question the motives. But it's an interesting constitutional question in right to life, liberty, security of the person. The courts seem to have upheld the government universal health system monopoly and ban on private insurance care.
5. Supreme Court says no. We are prisoners to crappy provincial health funding.
The doctor who led a legal challenge over a patient’s right to pay for private medical care says a decision by Canada’s top court not to hear an appeal means long wait times have been “forcibly embedded” into the medicare system. Dr. Brian Day is CEO of the Cambie Surgery Centre, which, along with a handful of patients, has spent more than a decade in court challenging the British Columbia Medicare Protection Act, which bans extra-billing and private insurance for medically necessary procedures. They argued long wait times in B.C.’s publicly funded system amounted to a breach of the patients’ rights to life, liberty and security of the person under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. The Supreme Court of B.C. dismissed the constitutional challenge three years ago and the provincial Court of Appeal upheld the ruling last year. On Thursday, the Supreme Court of Canada said it would not hear an appeal.
https://nationalpost.com/news/canada/scoc-wont-hear-appeal-involving-private-health-care
6. BTW we need like 10 more ethics commissioners lol.
7. Mario Dion is also stepping down as ethics commissioner. He served exactly 5 years to the month (he took one month off for health reasons, allegedly). Just long enough to get the sweetest pension possible.
8. Because they want to increase their dating prospects. I imagine its difficult to find prospective partners. Its an entirely selfish tactic. I'd be PO'd. It's a waste of their time. It's like not telling someone you're dating you have kids until like 5 dates in becuase you don't want to scare suitors away. That's ridiculous.
9. I've been fishing now and then on a few lakes, and have barely caught anything in the last 10 years, to the point of alarm IMO. The lakes I go to are very overfished, its quite sad actually, when I was a kid I would catch fish all the time. I imagine this happens in commercial fishing too.
10. This is the most federal power the NDP will ever have. They will never collapse the government. They've had their daycare, dental care programs etc pushed through Liberal budgets. They're in their glory.
11. How would this relative appointed not know this was a big conflict of interest?? LOL. This is the most unethical federal government during my lifetime. They just don't care, they just think it will be off the news cycle in a few weeks.
12. I told him he's either a Russian/Chinese troll or posts like one. I consider that insulting, though its not meant to be, just the truth. Either way I wouldn't say i'm nice to him LOL. He once offered to fight me during a drunken rant he later confirmed. Man of peace and Jesus.
13. If indigenous knowledge goes against science or facts then it isn't knowledge.
14. Nobody wants to elect the NDP because they suck. Why did the NDP nominate Singh as leader? He was too young to be taken seriously and had zero experience in federal politics. Flashy suits and an influx of Sikhs that joined the NDP and gave donations before the leadership vote. Look it up, its on public record. His vision for the country is centered around more public handouts. That's pretty uninspiring.
15. Our leaders are giant d-bags and losers, and Canadians are far too patient and polite to put up with it. Then again, I know they don't like it but the alternatives are also d-bags and losers.
16. The fact that it basically has no colonies anymore.
17. 100% of migrants going through Roxham Rd are already in a safe country called the USA, where they're free to make an asylum/refugee claim. It is run by a compassionate Democrat named Joe Biden. The migrants are also free to try to make a legal migrant claim at any Canadian port of entry. These are not victims. Some of them are migrants who aren't refugees and have been given temporary protected status in the US for reasons like hurricanes, earthquakes etc and the US wants to send them home because their time is up but they don't want to go home. Others have made asylum claims in the US and their claims have been rejected because they aren't real refugees but economic migrants. The safe third country agreement exists for a reason: to prevent asylum claim shopping from failed claimants that wastes our resources and time and takes advantage of our systems and compassion. It is not in any way racist or uncompassionate to have these rules. In fact, its freeing resources so real refugees can be processed quicker.
18. You mean like....The UNITED STATES of America? Do you know what the legal definition of a "state" is? Lol. What rubbish. I have told you before "Dougie" that this is untrue and yet you still repeat these lies. The Constitution Act, 1982 is legally binding to all provinces, regardless of who signed or didn't sign it. Any province can use the notwithstanding clause in the Charter, Quebec is not "special" in any legal regard. You don't need 100% of the provinces to consent in order to amend the constitution. The Queen signed off on it, its binding. Where do you come up with these fantastical nuggets of nonsense? Talking like a Russia or Chinese paid actor again. Even an (alleged military) vet, just like Tulsi Gabbard! https://www.constitutionalstudies.ca/ccs-term/amending-formula/?print=print-search
19. No it's not, the British Commonwealth hasn't existed for almost 75 years. The organization is called the Commonwealth of Nations, and all members are free and equal, and in no way subservient to the UK. The British Empire is dead and WWII was the death wound.
20. It depends what issue we're talking about. A term like "trans panic" is vague and has zero context or nuance, essentially make it meaningless. Sure, trans kids have rights. So do parents, and cis girls. These are very difficult issues to resolve because they involve a conflict of rights.
21. Calling it fascism is ridiculous. And You don't see a difference and this law and Uganda?
22. Why is this "panic"? You're inferring this is unreasonable. Are there legitimate concerns with these issues? Should teachers go ahead and allow children in elementary and middle schools to change their gender designation, pronouns or name without parental knowledge or consent.
23. "The bill passed 213-208, with five Republicans — mostly members of the House Freedom Caucus — voting against it. It would require schools to publish course studies and a list of books kept in libraries, as well as affirm parents’ ability to meet with educators, speak at school board meetings and examine school budgets." https://apnews.com/article/parents-rights-education-book-bans-9073f42e2bfda393d39dd8cb7b2cc8f4 Sounds fine. What's the big deal? Sometimes some conservative parents/policymakers can go too far. But so can progressives. It's pretty clear that some progressive educators have an agenda in bringing their politics into the classroom. Sometimes politics in the classroom, like how how to deal with LGBT issues, is unavoidable, and worth debating. This is the 1960's all over again.
