People who win wars often have trouble with the next challenge. Vietnam, the Soviet Union, the UK... -
Dick Cheney Funeral

Trump wasn't invited. With the cold war won, American corporations increased their reach globally. They reached a geopolitical limit in the 2000s when corporate profits, competing powers and domestic politics came into direct conflict. We're at the point of end game for that game now. -

You are also funding Energy Industry PR campaigns when you fill your tank. The article is from a compromised source, no doubt. You could have addressed that instead of going off on insults. -

Climate change is a Myth
Michael Hardner replied to paxamericana's topic in Health, Science and Technology
Well... the thread title seems to directly say that climate does stay the same. So the post was bait, meaning it was bvllshit ? Ok... this is why you sit on ignore, in sadness... Anyway, the logic is twisted: "climate change might not be bad... it used to be really really HOT and humans were fine although they didn't exist yet !" There used to be this old guy on the corner with a little organ and a monkey with a purple hat. He had a tin cup. Sometimes he said things. -
Climate change is a Myth

Isn't that a knock against Climate Denial to say it was warmer before humans 'arrived on the scene' ? You're saying that humans have never seen it as warm as this 'average' that we're talking about. Furthermore the post seems to acknowledge that temperatures are going up again so how is climate change a myth ? I've been on this board over 20 years, and the argument USED TO BE that temperatures weren't going up at all... so we're seeing progress from the Climate Deniers at least... In other words, humans weren't around then so how can you make any claims about the impact on humans ? -
1. I do not doubt that one bit. This is something that is very difficult for people to understand, and especially for liberals to accept that a large number of people support Trump, still: they don't know anyone who fits the bill. This was described by Daniel Kahneman as the "What you see is all there is" trap. 2. Very true. But the ultimate religion is economic freedom... just ask the women of Bangladesh. Why is the birthrate going down everywhere ? It's not religion doing htat...

To left-learning types: France is pretty socialist, or at least was when I lived there. 2-tier healthcare provides for better care for those who can't pay. The key to making this work, though, is a mindset of solving problems, making things more efficient and cheaper. And, yes, it's very possible to do this without lowering wages or making the system worse.

Parsing your comments on Trump, it's difficult to find hard praise that is separate from praise for the American system. The key 🗝️ is understanding when you switch from pragmatism (economics Trumps virtue) and loyalty (my country right or wrong, your military service etc.) Not that there's anything wrong with that. My approach to matters of the public sphere is different, that's all.

I've been in projects that were successful and ones that were failures. The team always knows. The biggest failures had the leadership in utter denial.
