This topic has outlived it's usefulness. I will do my best to incorporate everyone's suggestions and I have a few other ideas on how to improve things. However, If you don't like the forum software, go somewhere else.

This thread is a waste of my time. If you have a question about moderation, consult the rules and guidelines. If after consulting the rules and guidelines, you still can't figure out what the issue was, send a note to one of the moderators. If you don't like the answer you receive or you don't like the level or quality of moderation, go some where else. This constant whining and bitching about the moderation and other members stops now.
-
The thread was deleted because it's against the rules to call any leader a "neofascist" or a "fascist". Unless of course it's a serious discussion with a very well crafted argument. However, that particular post wasn't, so it was deleted. This is nonsense, there is no hidden agenda or "tacit approval" for a specific issue/party/candidate/etc by the moderators or myself. Everyone here is a volunteer (including myself), and we're all trying our best to make this forum a reasonable place to discuss politics. I'm growing tired of the whining and bitching about every single moderation action that takes place. If you have a problem with something that has been done with your thread or posting, politely use the PM feature to request an explanation from one of the moderators. If you do not like the explanation, or you feel you've been repeatedly wronged by someone on the moderation staff, then I'm afraid you're in the wrong place.

Ok, that isn't supposed to happen. I'll look around and see if there are other reports of this type of issue. Thanks However, what browser (type and version) and OS were you using?

I've toyed with the idea of removing the "Report Post" feature for years now, which might surprise some of you. The idea that you can immediately report any perceived infraction to the authorities the second it happens is, in my opinion, a bit of community killer. It undermines that idea that there we as a community, and I'm speaking broadly here, are required to moderate not only ourselves but also the people around us through our actions. Right now if someone feels they've been slighted they can immediately cry foul and report the incident to the moderators. Now imagine that type of scenario occurring on your way to work this morning -- someone cuts you off, and then has the audacity to not acknowledge their mistake! You immediately slam your hand down on the "Report Infraction" button the government installed on your dashboard and report that son-of-a-bitch for their ignorant snd illegal behaviour. It's a slightly ridiculous example, but I hope you get my point. The "Report Post" is being overused and I going to give serious thought to changes to how it's used. Additionally, some of you need to treat each other with more respect and others need to not be so sensitive of what others say. I encourage everyone to continue to use the Report Post feature, but before you do ask yourself if there is a better way to handle the situation. And Reddit has its share of issues with moderation - there is no way to please everyone.

I've gone an added another stream called, "Status Updates' to the Activity menu. That should make it easier for everyone (now you won't need to make a custom stream).
-
That's news to me...
-
Temporary.
-
I've removed the block because i haven't had the time to fix this issue. The status block will return once it's working properly. The signatures not being visible isn't a glitch, it's a conscious choice on my part. I'm still deciding whether there is any real value - because i'm thinking there isn't any. Then just add a new custom stream like BCsapper mentioned above.

Yes it does. This feature works fine on my iPhone.

Perhaps, I will look into it. However, the above post describing how to quote multiple sections of text seems much much easier than using BB code. I'm closing this thread as it has been properly answered.
-
Cybercoma has posted the solution. Simply select the text you wanted quoted, put the cursor over the highlighted text and you'll be given the option to "Quote this". Select that link (the text will be quoted in the reply box); you can then return to the thread and continue to do that with all the text you want quoted.
-
Post a screenshot of this issue, because as bcsapper confirmed, there is a save button available when you edit (it's in the lower right-hand side).
-
Sorry for the delay on fixing this issue. To attempt the "fix" we need to completely overwrite the forum code - which means the forums will be offline for a short period. This is also a fairly delicate operation, so I want to make sure it's done properly. I will update the support section when I have a selected the best time to attempt the fix. Thanks

Don't post support requests in an existing forum thread. If you have an issue, start a new thread. In this case, a support thread has already been created.
-
When you encounter an issue with the forums, please start a new thread - thanks. I'm looking into this issue.

Let's all take a deep breath and relax a bit. The forum upgrade, and the accompanying new features, are causing some confusion about the rules concerning images, videos, signatures, etc. I just ask to you be patient with myself and the mod team as we adjust our approach and work through some of these issues. I'm open to making adjustments to the functions, features and even the rules of these forums. BUT these changes, if they do happen, will take time to implement. So please don't get too upset (moderators take note too) if we all tread on some grey areas over the next few weeks/months.
-
Possibly. I"m not convinced they provided any real benefit... What does everyone else think?

Go here: http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums/notifications/options/ You can set the notifications however you want via that page.

Agreed, bush_cheney2004 - we're on the same page. Thanks for the link, I'll take a closer look.

You're making a mountain out of a mole hill. When the upgrade was complete, the original link to the forum Rules and Guidelines was removed (it was coded into the original theme - however when we upgraded we could no longer use the old theme; hence why this place looks different nowadays). I then had to recreate the Rules and Guidelines and manually insert the link on this new version of the forums. I used the same version as we had before, BUT I made a few slight revisions. You can see the diff report here: https://www.diffchecker.com/NhLedBYK You can see from the diff report that the old version referred to the current Prime Minister as Stephen Harper - which is obviously wrong. I also made a few corrections to character, word and paragraph spacing and a few other insignificant issues. Near the end, I changed the following: We at mapleleafweb.com also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a complaint or legal action arising from any message posted by you. to We at mapleleafweb.com also reserve the right to reveal your identity (or whatever information we know about you) in the event of a legal action arising from any message posted by you. I did this because after some consideration I felt that revealing someones forum identity should only come from a legal action, not just a complaint. Therefore, I removed that from the new Rules and Guidelines. So you see, I'm not some evil agent of the government plotting to censor or manipulate anyone. We have always had this type of Terms of Service (in this case, called the Rules and Guidelines) and we will continue to use it in the future. Also, the reason why you were asked to accept this new version of the TOS/Rules and Guidelines is because whenever I make a change to this document, it's a good practice to make everyone aware that a change as been made. There is no slippery slope here, it's the same TOS that has been used for nearly 16 years - the only difference is really cosmetic, and you can see those changes in the link above. The forum is located on a server in the US - however, legal action can be initiated on both sides of the border. However, legal action can arise even if the TOS is perfect, so I don't really see the physical location of the server from being a huge determining factor. I have no idea what you're talking about. The forums are live to anyone that wants to view them. Registration just allows you to post and reply in the forums. I've explained above what changes were made to the TOS. You can discuss sex all you want, just so long as it isn't explicit. If you want to talk about explicit sex, go somewhere else. That's not censorship, that's common decency, we have underage members who don't need to be reading these types of discussions. And to the last few sentences in your reply... We're not censoring anyone, we're just trying to set the ground rules for respectful debate. If you don't like the rules, then I guess it's a good thing you're leaving.
-
What are you talking about?
-
I've added a cancel button, which will close the reply form when selected - however, the autosave feature keeps whatever text you previously placed in the reply form. So if you return and select reply, the copy will still be available.
-
No real difference, I've removed the Recently Browsing widget. That widget has been added to the front page of the forum. I might add that to the sub topics area too... Both widgets have been added to the front page of the forums. Enjoy!

Would everyone agree with this statement? Have the errors ended? If so, that is what was expected, as it takes a few days for all the internal indexes to be rebuilt after a huge upgrade like we had.
