  1. I've activated something similar to a "Like" button. See the announcement here:
  2. I've activated a mew reputation system in the forums. The system will allow members to award points for content they like, giving recognition to the original poster. The feature is in beta, meaning that we're just experimenting with it and it will likely change over time. If you have any questions, please feel free to post in the support forums.
  3. You don't have the right to revoke your licence, and I DO I have a perpetual license to publish your comments - period. Also, for those who are complaining about the actual banning of Cybercoma - I reserve the right to take any moderation action I feel is necessary to maintain order in the forums. I don't need a specific rule to give me that power. This isn't a court of law or a playground for that matter - you can't go running away and cry and whine to an adult when you feel you've been wronged.
  4. No, the rules are clear on this: By participating in these forums, you give me the licence to use the copy you provide. Everyone's contributions are part of a greater discussion, I'm not going to allow someone to arbitrarily remove part of the conversation just because they're having a tantrum. Also, some postings are quoted by other members, do you expect me and the other members to selectively edit out the quoted responses just because you want the forum wiped clean of your words? I'm not changing my mind on this rule, so lets drop this discussion right now.
  5. 90 min I'm open to pushing that back further, but lets wait for more feedback. Thanks
  6. No one is allowed to delete all their posts - period. I'm going to turn on the function that stops members from editing/deleting old postings today. I didn't turn this feature on in the past because I figured we're all adults here, but I guess i have to evolve my thinking somewhat. You're free to request your name be remove and have your account deleted, but the posts and your statements remain. If you're that embarrassed by what you've said in the past, perhaps you should watch what you say in the future. I will remind everyone to read the rules and guidelines of the forum, you have no right to remove what you've said here in the past. This is a online public forum, and just like you can't magically remove the spoken words in an actual physical public forum, you can't remove them here.
  7. This feature, or something similar to it, is being considered. Thanks!
  8. Postman's book completely changed the way I looked at technology and media consumption. I've read it twice already, and each time I get more out of it. I'm actually disappointed in myself that I haven't read any Marshal McLuhan. I'm going to order McLuhan, "Understanding Media" right now! On a similar thread, have you read: The Shallows: What the Internet is Doing to Our Brains...? That's a rather disturbing examination of the impact the Internet (and associated tech) is having on our brains/society...
  9. New rule folks - no more threads about trolling. If you have a problem with a thread, another poster or a specific posting, contact a moderator, don't post your complaints in the support forums. This is the one and only warning.
  10. The issue with status updates has been resolved.
  11. The issue with status updates has been resolved.
  12. Status Updates, on the front page,  are working again.

    Enjoy!

  13. This topic has outlived it's usefulness. I will do my best to incorporate everyone's suggestions and I have a few other ideas on how to improve things. However, If you don't like the forum software, go somewhere else.
  14. This thread is a waste of my time. If you have a question about moderation, consult the rules and guidelines. If after consulting the rules and guidelines, you still can't figure out what the issue was, send a note to one of the moderators. If you don't like the answer you receive or you don't like the level or quality of moderation, go some where else. This constant whining and bitching about the moderation and other members stops now.
  15. The thread was deleted because it's against the rules to call any leader a "neofascist" or a "fascist". Unless of course it's a serious discussion with a very well crafted argument. However, that particular post wasn't, so it was deleted. This is nonsense, there is no hidden agenda or "tacit approval" for a specific issue/party/candidate/etc by the moderators or myself. Everyone here is a volunteer (including myself), and we're all trying our best to make this forum a reasonable place to discuss politics. I'm growing tired of the whining and bitching about every single moderation action that takes place. If you have a problem with something that has been done with your thread or posting, politely use the PM feature to request an explanation from one of the moderators. If you do not like the explanation, or you feel you've been repeatedly wronged by someone on the moderation staff, then I'm afraid you're in the wrong place.
  16. Ok, that isn't supposed to happen. I'll look around and see if there are other reports of this type of issue. Thanks However, what browser (type and version) and OS were you using?
  17. I've toyed with the idea of removing the "Report Post" feature for years now, which might surprise some of you. The idea that you can immediately report any perceived infraction to the authorities the second it happens is, in my opinion, a bit of community killer. It undermines that idea that there we as a community, and I'm speaking broadly here, are required to moderate not only ourselves but also the people around us through our actions. Right now if someone feels they've been slighted they can immediately cry foul and report the incident to the moderators. Now imagine that type of scenario occurring on your way to work this morning -- someone cuts you off, and then has the audacity to not acknowledge their mistake! You immediately slam your hand down on the "Report Infraction" button the government installed on your dashboard and report that son-of-a-bitch for their ignorant snd illegal behaviour. It's a slightly ridiculous example, but I hope you get my point. The "Report Post" is being overused and I going to give serious thought to changes to how it's used. Additionally, some of you need to treat each other with more respect and others need to not be so sensitive of what others say. I encourage everyone to continue to use the Report Post feature, but before you do ask yourself if there is a better way to handle the situation. And Reddit has its share of issues with moderation - there is no way to please everyone.
  18. I've gone an added another stream called, "Status Updates' to the Activity menu. That should make it easier for everyone (now you won't need to make a custom stream).
  19. I've removed the block because i haven't had the time to fix this issue. The status block will return once it's working properly. The signatures not being visible isn't a glitch, it's a conscious choice on my part. I'm still deciding whether there is any real value - because i'm thinking there isn't any. Then just add a new custom stream like BCsapper mentioned above.
  20. Yes it does. This feature works fine on my iPhone.
  21. Perhaps, I will look into it. However, the above post describing how to quote multiple sections of text seems much much easier than using BB code. I'm closing this thread as it has been properly answered.
  22. Cybercoma has posted the solution. Simply select the text you wanted quoted, put the cursor over the highlighted text and you'll be given the option to "Quote this". Select that link (the text will be quoted in the reply box); you can then return to the thread and continue to do that with all the text you want quoted.
