You can climb down off the cross Smallc, no one is going to ban you for opening yet another thread whining about moderation. Everyone here is responsible for what the things they say... period. If you were warned or disciplined, it was because you broke the clearly defined rules. You cannot blame anyone for the mistakes you make, particularly the moderator or myself. I should note, the VAST majority of the reports are frivolous and are simply ignored by Charles and myself - Charles and I are not stupid; we can tell when someone is trying to manipulate the reporting feature. If you follow the rules, don't run your mouth off and ignore trolling, you have NOTHING to worry about. However, if you like to get excited and counter trolling and those you disagree with with malice and spite, your days are number in these forums, and I look forward to the day when I can send you packing. The overall quality of the forums depend greatly on the ability of the forum members to take the high road when confronted with trolling and other undesirable behaviors. Here is a question for all of you who are complaining: If you believe this forum is heading in the wrong direction, what have you done to reverse the trend? If you can’t answer that simple question, perhaps you should consider the impact of your actions.

You've posted 172 times as of today and you've been around since May 2013 - and you think you've seen enough to call Charles biased? That's rich! I'll be blunt with you, you don't have a clue what you're talking about. Follow the rules or leave. You clearly broken the rules and your posts were removed. You have NOTHING to complain about. If you continue to whine and complain, I will close this thread and you'll be shown the door.

Of course, I didn't mean to imply that you were accusing me of that attitude! I just saw an opportuntity to explain myself and my approach to moderation. Thanks!

I don't think comparing this website to a business is the best analogy -- as we don't sell anything; and no one here is a customer. It might be more apt to consider this like a private park. So long as everyone is polite and respectful, you can use the park to do whatever you like. But if you repeatedly break the stated rules of the park, you will be asked to leave. Also, I may have used the "take-it-or-leave-it" attitude in the past, but ONLY in the context of explaining the rules and guidelines of the forums AND only directed at those who either were complaining or breaking the rules.

Kimmy's right, this forum isn't operated by the Federal or Provincial Government (nor has there ever been any Fed or Prov funding), so just about anything we do on here can't be considered "unconstitutional". I've been running this forum since 2000 - I think if I was going to secretly manipulate the board to promote a particular partisan agenda, it should have been obvious by now - don't you think? I believe the forum has a great mix of ideas and ideologies (and even partisanship). I have the upmost confidence in Charles AND Micheal. If you get banned from these forums, it is because you repeatedly ignored warnings for breaking the clealy defined rules. It's as simple as that.

I have made some changes to the forum, and this issue now appears to be resolved. I can edit and make changes to the quotes and the whole quotation no longer disapears. Please confirm...

No. The security updates are often tied to the upgrades, which means you get the good with the bad. Gone are the days when we could wait till a version is 100% stable, before upgrading. As incidents of hacking/exploits have risen considerably over the past few months. -

Yes, I've identified that there are issues. We're going to need to apply another upgrade, as these bugs seem to be inherent in this version of the forum software. I'll keep everyone posted. -
It does not look look like I can do much about this quoting issue - it's a problem inherent with the WYSIWYG editor that is shipped with the IPB forum software. It is also the case that I don't have any option of picking and choosing which features come with a forum upgrade. Unfotunately, I cannot ignore the upgrades as they include important security patches that NEED to be applied to the forum software. I can't leave the forum unpatched, as that can cause security holes that can be exploited by hackers and script kiddies. HOWEVER, it is possible to disable the WYSIWYG and return to the simple text entry box that was used in older versions of the forum. To do this, click the tiny switch on the top left hand corner of the post box. That will disable the WYSIWYG editor, but you will still be able to using the quote and multi-quote feature.

I see no issue with posting images, if no one updates this thread in the next few days, will close it.

This issue is being investigated and will be fixed shortly. I agree, it's annoying. Give me some time to troubleshoot the problem and I will update this thread when I have a solution.

Ok, I've had enough of the bitching and complaining -- I've let it go on long enough. I've close this thread, if you want to whine, do it over email, PM or in the chatroom.

If any of you feel you can do a better job, leave and start your own forum. Seriously, I don't (nor do any of the moderators) get paid to babysitter anonymous thin-skinned forum members. If you repeatedly break the rules, you are shown the door. Plenty of members have been suspended and or banned for bad behavior over the years. This is a fact... I should know; I'm the one that sent them packing. I simply cannot fathom how some of you can have the gall to lecture me or any of the mods about "doing our job". If I suspended or banned a member for every single infraction, there would be no one left, except perhaps myself and the mods. We use discretion when issuing warnings and suspensions and I think we've done a admirable job over the years. Go out and try to find another political forum that has the breath of topics and the overall civility that is present in MLW forums - I think you will be surprised to find how good you have it here. -
We are looking into the image issue. It's related to the upgrade, it's going to take a while to track down the problem.
-
Is this issue still occurring?
-
Yes and no. Obviously, if everyone reports every infraction you see, the Mods and my self will be overwhelmed with reports, and nothing will be done. So keep this in mind - everyone is responsible for ensuring the quality of the forums stays at a high level. If you see petty squabbling, tell the posters to take it off the boards. We have a chat room and private messaging where members can squabble all they want. I will repeat it again - EVERYONE is responsible for ensuring things run smoothly around here. If we all run to the Mods every time something happens, nothing will be done. Lets all take some ownership in this place.

Read the rules and guidelines of this forum. You will find they are very thorough and address your issue of the definition. http://www.mapleleafweb.com/forums//index.php?app=core&module=help&do=01&HID=17 However, the only way to effectively deal with someone you feel is trolling is to ignore them. Its really that easy...
