  1. I'm going to be making some major changes to the forums over the next few weeks. The first, and likely the biggest change, is going to be in the name of the site, and the domain name you use to access the site (and consequently the discussion forums). I'm not going to release the new name yet (or the domain), you'll just have to wait and see what it is. Not to worry, all of the old URLs will still work, everything will just be forwarding to the new domain URL scheme. I will also be modifying the sub-form categories somewhat, incorporating some long overdue changes. Mostly, I'll be expanding the US Politics section, so that it has it's own section (similar to what we have for the Canadian Politics section) Canadian Domestic Politics Federal Politics Provincial Politics Local Politics United States Domestic Politics Federal Politics State Politics Local Politics International Politics Canada / US Relations The Rest of The World The remainder of the forums I plan to keep the same. Of course I'm always open to suggestion for organization of sections, so please post below if you have any ideas. If you have any other good suggestions on reasonable changes we can make to the forums, please post them below. If they're good ideas, I'll do my research and see how easy it would be to incorporate into the new forums. Thanks!
  2. I agree with that statement, but strangely that functionality isn't working... I have a support ticket created to address this issue, I'll update when I hear back.
  3. Done, for now... There's got to be a better way to display the clubs content without cluttering up the front page like it is now. BUT, I'll figure that out when I have more time in the near future. Things are back to the way they were before.
  4. Just moving some things around, decided the it might be best if we remove the clubs from the front page of the site - it was a bit confusing that way they were listed. You need to select "Cubs" in the main navigation, to access the clubs feature. Just trying some different things out, if it doesn't work out, I'll revert. Thanks!
  5. Thanks for helping @bcsapper!
  6. @WestCanMan CampMassad has been banned, lets avoid engaging with his past posts.
  7. News to me...
  8. I'm glad you were able to figure it out. For those who are still looking for the edit functionality, see the screencap below: The recent forum upgrade came with a slight change in the forum look and feel.
  9. It's sad we need a technological solution to address bad form/etiquette, but c'est la vie
  10. Truer words were never spoken.
  11. The content of your posts was never edited, they were just moved. Then make sure to post your new threads in the appropriate section of the forum. To blame Charles for your mistake and then question why you weren't immediately notified of him fixing your mistake is bad form.
  12. Ok, in the future, it's best to screen capture the error given, along with a detailed walkthrough of how you go to the error. Then I can try to replicate the problem. I'm glad you got it fixed. I believe the system will attempt to determine if the file is corrupted or not, before allowing it to fully upload. Cheers!
  13. Your browser should handle that functionality...
  14. Off-Topic Posts (Visible/Hidden) feature - can you be more specific? how would this feature be any different than what you've done above with existing features...?
  15. It's hard to detect a members motives for posting in the forums. So the only thing Charles and I can do is enforce the rules and guidelines of the forums. There is no reliable criteria for determining professional pundits. The anonymity of the forums means it's impossible for moderators to determine who is actually posting (their real identity). If I enforced a real name/identity policy (linking to FB, LinkedIn, etc) - and there is even some issues with determining identity on those platforms - I would wager it would severely impact members posting activities.
  16. This site used to be partially funded by the University of Lethbridge. However that hasn’t been the case since 2011. It has since been funded by me personally and with the help of volunteers like Charles. That is also an incorrect statement. This website is not operated “for Canadians”, we clearly state the following in the forum guidelines: The nationality of the forum participants has absolutely nothing to do with intelligent discussion. I welcome participants from all over the world; diversity of opinion is what matters, not echo chambers centred around tribalism and other forms of nationalism.
  17. I've spoken with Charles about this issue, and reaffirmed my original position that the clubs should be moderated by the club owners (or their designates), NOT the moderator(s) or myself. I believe the simple rule was no porn, copyrighted material or anything illegal can take place. I also reserve the right to step in and remove anything I feel is egregious. Thanks
  18. I guess much depends on the definition of “ebbs and flows” One example is the fall and rise the partisan press in the United States between the 19th century and today.
  19. Nope, it's not. It happens everywhere, everyday. The only difference is that the objectionable opinions of others (measured differently by each of us) are amplified by social media and other new internet related mediums (forums, etc). Civility isn't dead either, though many would argue it has taken a nose-dive lately. If you look back into our history, you'll find that political discourse has always been divisive (and downright vicious at times); it often ebbs and flows with the medium it is delivered through. A great book on this topic is: Amusing Ourselves to Death - Public Discourse in the Age of Show Business, by Neil Postman. I can't recommend this book enough to those that want to learn about how the media (and medium to which we consume news/information) can affect the meaning of the messages we convey and consume. Basically, it's a great history lesson and explanation of Marshall Mcluhan, "the medium is the message"
  20. Please don’t discuss issues/questions in the middle of a thread. If you have a specific question relating to a moderation action or have a more general question, either use PM or post in the support section. thanks
  21. They can try but it's kind of pointless with the proliferation of SSL and VPNs on the market right now. Government firewalls can't stop encrypted communications, the best they can do is shut down the IPs associated with VPNs - which is what Netflix and China often do... But even then, customers will simply switch to dedicated (rather than shared) IPs, which make it virtually impossible to track down someone contravening the censors firewall. So don't be too outraged, simply go buy a VPN service from a reputable provider and surf till your heart's content.
  22. What browser are you using to access the site now? Try using safari, Firefox, Chrome, etc, to post a reaction.
  23. Those are emoticons, we're talking about "reactions"
  24. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? I will consider lifting the restriction, but I want to hear from others about whether this is a wide spread issue. Have you tried to post a reaction via a different browser?
  25. Members should be able to post up to 20 reactions a day. What is happening when you attempt to give more than one reaction in a day?
