Bidenomics: DOW Hits All-Time High!
impartialobserver replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The ups and downs of the stock market are not a one stop shop indicator of overall economic health. Especially the DJIA. It is one data point amongst many. -
Are the Democrats an Actual Cult?
impartialobserver replied to WestCanMan's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
I would say not. Only because there is considerable variance in their views. In a cult.. every one follows a narrow viewpoint and there is punishment for not. For example, I know folks who are quite liberal that did not get vaxxed and besides a shrug of the shoulders.. not much happened. -
Is Hate Speech Free Speech?
impartialobserver replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
To view your son being gay as a success or failure infers that Strickland has ultimate control over that. Second, it says that he would view his son is a lesser light.. that is wrong IMO. Being gay is not immoral. -
Is Hate Speech Free Speech?
impartialobserver replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Strickland said that it is a failing of a man to have a gay son. I do not view it as a failure or a success if my son is gay. -
Is Hate Speech Free Speech?
impartialobserver replied to Rebound's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
Folks are and should be free to express their hate.. and they are also free to look stupid doing so in some cases. If my son was to be gay... that would change nothing on my end. -
Any topic where you have lots of micro data is going to have some issues with interpretation. Does "blah, blah, blah" qualify as x or y. If you use human eyes, then it slows way down and gets very subjective. If you use automation then you lose the ability to be discerning and to incorporate nuance. Health statistics can be misleading because of this.

The many problems with Electric vehicles.

EV revolution is not ending. Like all technology, it has hiccups. I am in the process of upgrading the outlets in my garage so that I can plug in an EV in time. -
Toronto named best place to live.

Having been homeless once in my early 20's.. I just do not know how a city could legally do away with homelessness. Yes, you could put all of them in jail but you would run into some very expensive legal hurdles when they could not prove that the person committed a crime. Traffic.. if you allow cars in your densely packed areas then you will have traffic. To expect a city government to be able to do away with these issues altogether is simply unrealistic. As for drugs.. I saw drug use in very Conservative, rural, and very white Salmon, Idaho. So if it occurs in such a remote, rural place such as Salmon, Idaho then it is going to occur in larger cities. The only thing that really differentiates cities on that front is how aggressive they prosecute drug offenses and the income levels. Higher incomes tend to lead more affluence and therefore less use of heroin, meth, and fentanyl. -
Economists use statistical models which tell you correlation between variables. If the dependent variable is inflation and one of the contributing variables is immigrant population.. they are going to be strongly correlated. Where you would get the real juicy stuff (so to speak) is adding variables such as per capita real income, per capita gdp, cost of living (historical series), and import/export ratios.

Toronto named best place to live.

Most Conservatives view any homelessness as a sign that a place is a shithole. The reason that you find homelessness in Salt lake city and not Bottineau, ND is not all that complex. It is not due to moral superiority. It is due to perceived options (cities have more employment options) and cost of living. Cities are more expensive except for tourist towns like Aspen, CO or South Lake Tahoe, CA. Also, if you are a career panhandler (they do exist sadly enough), you will have better luck in a city than Bottineau, ND where the populace is on somewhat equal economic footing. -

Sort of. Any large city will have certain attributes such as high taxes, terrible traffic, run down neighborhoods just a few blocks from the downtown, more drugs and therefore drug addicts and all that comes with that, more homelessness, and lack of grocery store options in the downtown due to no parking. When I think of the term, shithole, I think of places that have a higher than normal degree of this. Even my hometown, Boise, has pockets of this. Does that mean it is a shithole? I would say not when 95% of the town is very pleasant. I would only give two places the title of shithole; Bakersfield CA and Yakima WA. I know that I only mentioned the first one before but was remembering a trip through Yakima this summer. What makes them unique? First, Bakersfield. Every store that i encountered looked dilapidated and beat up. The signage was dusty and malfunctioning. The sidewalks and roads were in utter disrepair. Potholes.. more like pot-oceans. the one gas station that we went to was simply filthy. There was more product/trash on the floor than on the shelves. -

good for you. When I went to NYC in august 2022, I could see the same thing in action. -

there is this concept called constraints, limits, human nature. Put enough people in a relatively small space and things slow to a crawl. -
The Little Mermaid from Disney suddenly black.

Who cares if the decision to have a black person play Ariel was not successful? If you do not like it... do not watch it. Money talks.. really, it does. The bottom line which is created by watching it or not.. is the motivating factor in the long run. -

This is how you show your hatred of blacks.. you are a terrible poker player. I spent summers in very, very white Eastern idaho and guess what.. those white males relieved themselves in alleyways. Would you call them an animal? Yes or No. -

This is what happens in any large city.. Toronto is no different. -
This is you in a nutshell.. The c_cksure little rooster that "sets everybody straight". So confident and boastful. And yet after your speech, you look around and find that no one is there. No one was listening. Oh... but you speak the truth and yet no one cares what you say. However, because you have no self awareness.. you stand tall and tell yourself that you set them id10ts straight. Completely unaware that no one listened. All that time spent writing these impassioned posts and yet nothing changed. Lather, rinse, and repeat.. you say the same thing over and over again and get the same response. Your complete inability to recognize that you are not "setting anyone straight" is comical.
