I just hired a gentleman that is originally from Honduras. He is here on a student visa and so that is going to be fun to deal with being as this will be his first non-academic job. some will say that we did this because need to diversify. Hmm.. could it possibly be that he has earned a Phd in mathematics along with a BS in Mining engineering and is a published author? Nahh.. lets not bother hiring the rock star candidate that has shown the motivation to do high level quantitative research (which is what we do at the office). Being an American who also did the same thing.. the foreigners are not smarter, simply more motivated.

Social Media in the MeToo/GenZ era

"wrong" ... not quite. They simply face a different reality than the generations before it. You can't blame them for being less inclined to have face to face interaction and being less measured when it comes to debate. -

If Flutie played today, he would have got more of a chance. The league has seen the rise of the non-traditional QB. It was thought that you had to be 6'3", 230 lbs or so, and more of a pocket passer to succeed. Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Russell Wilson, Josh Allen, and Lamar Jackson have proven that not to be the case. Mahomes can be beat.. The super bowl against TB shows it. I think that he is on track to be the GOAT but if you get pressure up the middle and the non-Kelce receivers do not get separation immediately, it can spell trouble. Mahomes can run but SF has the ultimate weapon in LB Fred Warner. As fast of an LB as the NFL has seen in decades. -
Social Media in the MeToo/GenZ era

I would say it is not an issue of IQ but rather a bit of a lag. There is so much more stimuli and/or information in the lives of today's kids than any generation before it. Its not even close honestly. They are born and raised entirely in the age of the internet and so have no experiences or memories with the more incremental stuff... live TV (so no fast forwarding through commercials), having to remember phone numbers, terrestrial radio, card catalog at the library, etc. Nothing exists to break up the flow of information.. they can't possibly ingest it all let alone discern what is valuable/valid. Also, it is human nature to take the path of least resistance so why not do self checkout, play video games, live on social media, etc. -
If my kid thought he/she was trans.. i would listen but there would no surgery, drugs, counseling until they were of age to make that decision for themselves. Things tend to be a bit clearer at 20 (or so) than at 12. For us or against them logic shows that one has a profoundly low amount of logic. I can be not religious and simply not adhere to some thing. That does not mean that I advocate against religion. I have my life without it and if you have yours with it.. have at it. Do not let my lack of belief change your ways.

Social Media in the MeToo/GenZ era

It is difficult to tell the fact from the fiction especially when you have nearly limitless pieces of information that you are exposed. In the old days, you had a local newspaper, possibly a big city newspaper, a few magazines, and possibly a TV program or two. Now there is social media and everybody has an opinion, blogs, podcasts, hundreds of TV shows, hundreds of magazines, and then thousands of websites along with the newspapers. In today's world, you do not have to know anything in order to start expressing and publishing your opinion. -

You could write about this topic for pages upon pages and never come close to articulating its impact on the younger generation. They are exposed to so much more information ( than Gen X or those before ) ever were. Its not even close. At a certain point, the human brain can only process so much information let alone verify the quality/objectiveness of the information. -
Why Leftists Are So Unhappy
impartialobserver replied to Deluge's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
The point is that after the first break down.. I should have quit trying to fix it and move on. Pay the debt off but no time/money on parts and tools. This was pre-youtube and so the chilton guide was my friend and he was not a very good friend. Lots of very small print and no mention of what tools that I would need. Lots of hours spent on that pile of garbage and missing work/wages. The onus is on me not them.. I am in control of my financial fortunes. -

The price on that junker car was not all that bad, $1250. interest rate was somewhat high (in house financing). The real problem was the car. Ran fine for 2 weeks and then it was one issue after another.. starter, alternator, main computer chip, etc. -

Where we differ at the most fundamental is this. I believe that ALL humans are imperfect and flawed regardless of race, religion, or political leanings. You believe that only leftists (or really someone that does not line up with you 100%) are imperfect/flawed. -

From my experience.. both sides are populated quite well with types that feel like someone is oppressing them. Their life is not what they want it to be because society/government is dumping on them. Only I can make my life good or not so good and that is true regardless of who is in office. My 20's were largely a dumpster fire with lots of questionable decisions.. oh but George W. Bush was President so it must be because of him. Not sure how but I could blame him for financing that junker car that could not stay running for more than a week at a time. -
For the immigrants trying to cross the border.. I would simply say that they should go about it in the legal fashion. Some will argue that we should turn them all away except for the brightest and most accomplished. I would say that we should be a bit more lenient because a society needs all types not just Phd's and doctors. However, to ease the burden on communities.. its best that we slow the intake.

Taylor Swift Derangement Syndrome

interesting how certain types who claim to be so masculine talk about Taylor Swift and not the game itself. As for the game.. I predict that SF wins 28-25. The reason being that KC's receiving corp outside of Travis Kelce is not up to the task. Mahomes is amazing but when snap after snap... he has to run or hold on to it for just one more second, the scripted plays will break down and you could see a few more sacks/incompletions. -

I will agree that Trump is not a stand up guy that I would want to be connected to. However, my primary issue with him is his demonstrated agreement with conspiracy theories. Its one thing for random internet hack to buy into them but a public official is held to a higher standard. To base your comments and decisions on unfounded (and almost always unprovable) conspiracy theories is unforgivable. -
The jobs number is CES. Now the unemployment rate is part of Local Area Unemployment Statistics. CES is a job count and LAUS is a people count. The two are only marginally connected. What you describe is similar to LAUS. CES breaks job down by industry sector where LAUS just wants to know if a person is employed, unemployed, or unemployed but looking for work.

the jobs number that everyone talks about is called Current Employment Statistics. First and foremost... it is an estimate. This is why it gets revised monthly. What goes into the model? Surveys, past CES data, QCEW data. and some Census data. Next thing,, it is a top down calculation. Meaning that the national numbers are created first and then the individual states numbers are forced to sum up to that national number. Lastly, it is an estimate not a population count (unlike QCEW) but because it is monthly, folks prefer it over the other (QCEW) which has a six to eight month lag. 2023 q3 data for QCEW will come out in March.
