Trump shot at his own rally
I am Groot replied to QuebecOverCanada's topic in Federal Politics in the United States
You know he doesn't believe in God, right? Doesn't go to church. Has never read the bible. And does not abide by its teachings. In fact, he's broken just about every commandment multiple times. -

Lay blame on Republicans for what? For saying nutty things? They tend to say nutty things more than the Democrats. And given their ratings and how widespread and influential their broadcasts are I don't think you can pretend FOX isn't mainstream. A huge chunk of Americans watch it. -

You mean Black people. The shooter was a registered Republican. You mean in the "minds" of conspiracy kooks. Yeah, so? The shooter was immediately grabbed and arrested. A 22 hand gun is not a rifle. -

We're speaking of government investing in housing. “Despite many commendable efforts, in no version of reality can housing supply respond to an almost overnight tripling in the run-rate of new bodies. This is (still) the case of a demand curve running loose.” https://betterdwelling.com/canadas-immigration-plan-is-not-viable-in-any-version-of-reality-bmo/ -

Yeah, okay, but it was Trump's extremely inflammatory language that inspired those people on Oc 6. Or have you forgotten his speech where he told them they'd have to 'fight like hell' or else 'you won't have a country anymore'. And inflammatory language is his stock in trade. The guy recently said that if he's elected he wants to put Liz Cheney on a 'televised military trial' (wtf?). He said of Biden 'Let's indict the motherf*cker! Let's indict!'. He calls him 'crooked Joe'. And let's not forget "if I don't get elected it's gonna be a bloodbath." And "if we don't win this election I don't think you're going to have another election". -

Quantify 'plenty' against 150k per year coming in? Which is almost everywhere outside the West if you claim you're gay or trans. And you don't even have to be p physically unsafe. We recently granted refugee status to a couple of lesbians from Japan, of all places, because they said they were discriminated against at home. Not in danger. Not being oppressed or targeted by the government. Just discriminated against. -
Yeah, that's been one of my fears. One EMP properly placed at the right height in the middle of North America would short out all the electrical grids, most likely wipe out almost every unshielded electrical system from computers to radios to the electronics in your cars, trucks, trains and planes. And it would take years to repair even the electrical grid. Which means most of us will die. It would only cost about $4 billion to shield the American electrical grid, chump change for the US government, but so far no American administration has been willing to fork up the cash. And of course, the Canadian government has no plans that go beyond the current election cycle. They'll vote in the money to shield the electrical grid the day after it's destroyed. Except there'll be no power, cars, radios or computers then, so, oh well. The American military nuclear system is well-shielded from EMPs, so are a lot of other American military communication and sensor systems. Also, an EMP above North American wouldn't harm countries in Europe or Asia at all

I liked Teddy. He was a brave, intelligent, well-educated man, a good husband, a good father, and a good leader. Trump is none of those things and never will be. -

I don't understand how you crazy people keep getting the idea Trump gives a shit about religion. The man has never read the bible, belongs to no church, and has never gone into one except to get married multiple times. And soon after ignore the 'forsaking all others' part of his vows. -

Oh please. How many people thought Obama would never get out of the White House alive? And how many cranks from the far right have depicted Biden as a threat to America for the last four years? Tons. Tight security made it almost impossible to get a shot off without dying. I don't know who this shooter was but I'm guessing he was nuts. All the ones I know of recently, as in going back to Ford, have been crazies. Because he's more likely to take a shot at someone than be shot at? -

I found this very odd myself. The first thing the secret service do when scoping out venues is see how many high places can get a shot at where the protected will be. They change all kinds of things like the positioning of the stage to minimize those places, and then they guard them. The last time anyone got a shot at a SS protectee with a long gun was Kennedy, and he was in an open-topped moving car, impossible to protect. I don't think it's happened before then, though I don't have perfect knowledge of US history. This was a huge security breakdown. -

The Republicans HAVE helped to create this hateful environment. They aren't alone by far. The Left, especially those who call themselves 'progressives' have had a huge hand in it too. But Trump himself, just like Trudeau, loves to stoke the fires of resentment and division. Yes, I have fantasies myself about such a person taking over. Here, too. So far, I've been disappointed for a lot of years. -
A report to the BC government recommended it expand the supply of 'safe' drugs. Just how woke is the BC government? How woke are the people it appoints? Get a look at their bios. Note there's nothing about their skills or education, but only their identity group membership and confessions to being 'settlers' and 'occupiers'. Can anyone tell me what the difference between these two is in terms of the number of virtue points these humble confessionals bring?

Canadians voting along racial and ethnic lines
I am Groot replied to I am Groot's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
What happened to 'follow the science'? Racial and ethnic voting has been a very well-known thing (though rarely ever spoken about) for decades. It's why almost any riding that has a strong minority of this or that racial/ethnic immigrant group invariably has multiple party candidates from THAT group. -

Investments in housing are a waste of money. He should know that. The housing issue is not supply-driven but demand-driven, and the demand is caused by the government's importation of massive numbers of people through multiple streams of temporary workers. He should know that, too. All the economists seem to. -
And then they figure out how to jam your drones and you're defenseless.

If the interpretation of 'human rights' means that any foreigner who arrives illegally can stay if they please then it needs to go. Decisions on national sovereignty and border enforcement have to be with the nation itself, not with foreigners somewhere else. The same goes for Canada, which needs to pull out of the UN convention on refugees and any other agreement governing asylum, then rewrite the law so we can block anyone arriving from a safe third country, or anyone without proper papers, and do a quicky hearing for others. -
ALL NATO nations sent troops to Afghanistan and suffered casualties there. There are 20 NATO nations with troops in the Baltics. The difference is, their troops are properly equipped and supported, and there are more behind them if needed. Neither is the case with Canada.

I suspect that the allies will get together and someone will quietly inform the Trudeau government that if he doesn't pull up his colorful socks there will be an open move to boot Canada from the G7 next year as our poor economy has now fallen behind other countries and we no longer deserve to be in the G7. That would be a humiliation to Trudeau in an election year, and thus give him the only kind of motivation he ever uses to justify spending money - his own election prospects.
-
I do not believe your interpretation is correct. The thing pasted into their post suggested whites would, if they could go back in history, eliminate the period of Western slavery. Which is reasonable and logical. It also suggested blacks living in the US today would not because doing so would mean that instead of living in a wealthy, western country their ancestors never having been brought there, they would be living in Africa. That also does not imply slavery was 'awesome' but merely that the descendants of those slaves are likely better off than the descendants of their former tribes/countries/nations who never got brought over. Canada never had slaves, of course, and the blacks in Canada are not descended from slaves unless they are immigrants from a country that had slavery.
