SHOCKER - Poilievre goes super-WOKE !
Nexii replied to Michael Hardner's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Poilievre is ok with LGBT, and that puts the CPC much closer to center than Liberals or NDP CPC will win the next election, only question is whether it'll be a minority or majority government. Liberals show no sign of cutting overspending which has led to runaway inflation. By the time the next election is called the pandemic will be a distant memory, and Russia is too distant to work as a scapegoat for high living costs Not to mention the complete collapse of our healthcare system -
More fair to say that status, confidence, and prowess are attractive. Now I haven't read 50 Shades and a lot of it is more described as abuse than actual BDSM. But given the wild popularity it definitely hit on some primal yearning within most women. Something that most don't get out of their relationships for whatever reason. It's something pre-dating civilization that can't be acted out in a civilized society. Or it's too taboo to explore and try. I'll say that there are a lot of big misconceptions from both the medical left and religious right around what being trans is like. Mostly because it's trying to rationalize through the lens of someone straight, something that is much more emotional/primal in the same way. One doesn't think "I'd like to do female things so I'm going to become female". I never believed women couldn't do a career dominated by men. Or that a man can't be a nurturing father, etc. It's just insane to think anyone would go through with transitioning with 'gender roles' (whatever that means in modern society) as a motivator.

The Leger poll is legit - they are the most accurate pollster historically. It's so disingenuous how the MSM spins it though. In Canada we vote for parties not leaders, and the Cons are up 6 points over the Libs. The poll was not looking good for the Libs.
-
There has also never been more parties taking up the split than now. But yea I don't think 34% quite gets them there
-
That same Leger poll has the Cons up 34% over the Libs at 28%. Borderline CPC majority territory.

Trudeau's out-of-control spending - something has to give

We've spent an awful lot of money with little to show for it. Health care is in shambles across the country. It'd be one thing if all that money went into infrastructure but it didn't. It went to rich business owners and government employees to sit at home and do no work. -
Our public health care system is failing us.
Nexii replied to blackbird's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
From what I understand in NS it's the opposite problem. Our nurses are full time but since we don't hire enough, we end up paying out premium overtime rates excessively. So we get worse care and spend more money for it -
I mean overthrow of the government was the convoy's original goal which was anti-democratic. But by the time the convoy got to Ottawa, the organizers had tamped down the overthrow rhetoric and took a very peaceful approach. So they made the government look paranoid and very out of touch with reality. The government didn't adapt to the situation well at all, instead they doubled down on authoritarian measures.

Ukraine will soon have a numerical advantage in troops also. I wouldn't be surprised if they doubled their army size by mid-late summer with NATO assistance in this area as well. It takes time to train a modern army with modern equipment. Russia's only hope is full mobilization, and even then they won't have the equipment by the time a larger army can be trained. They'll be lucky to even replace equipment for their current army size.

In NS it's about 10% of our population on the waitlist. Which is just the waitlist, that's not counting those who haven't bothered to sign up. And it doesn't count all those with family doctors who are too busy to realistically see you. Probably closer to 25% are not receiving basic care. A lot of it is senseless gatekeeping. I'd argue that inefficiency is a much bigger problem than funding. Most medicines don't need to go through a doctor. Create a system that can self-regulate, costs need to be lower. Wait times are like 2 years to get hormones for trans healthcare. But you can circumvent this with a private paid referral. How does this make any sense? The answer is the majority of our healthcare system just doesn't make any sense, because it doesn't have to as a monopoly. -
The libertarian side of me wants to say that no amount of science justifies mandatory vaccines. With perhaps the exception of babies and young children, from very fatal diseases. But even then the focus should be on education not coercion.

NDP backing the EA was a knife in the back. Layton never would have gone along with it. I won't be supporting them again. I think you're starting to see it though. Melanchon was awfully close to #2 this time around in France. Most of his supporters despise the center as much as the far-right. Not sure if it'll ever come to Canada, but the centrists have completely lost touch with the working class. It's too bad that parties with different economic policies tend to have wacko social policy. I'm not sure why the two have to go hand in hand.

Environmentalism and the Green utopia: Does it make sense?
Nexii replied to West's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Yea our policies are nothing more than feel good measures which actually make pollution worse globally. And they also haven't reduced pollution domestically. Problem is it's hard to know how much pollution is made when importing foreign goods. China can fudge the numbers. There's probably not an easy and fair solution. Poorer countries also can't afford to use more expensive green technologies as much. Tech investments are probably our only long term hope on a macro scale. Discovering better ways to degrade plastic, to reduce global CO2, desalinate water, fusion power, etc. Maybe a global tax going into a such a research fund could work. -
And over-regulation of the housing industry. We're way undersupplied for housing units. I'd say rent inflation has been much worse than food/fuel.

You can be for pharmacare and dental and against Singh and Trudeau. In other words don't equate left with the recent authoritarian slide.

Is it Conservative "greed" or are leftists unrealistic?
Nexii replied to West's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Social programs are good but unfortunately too much is politically driven rather than for actual good. That is to say I probably do lean left but the left is horribly inefficient at allocating money into social programs. Giving money to people to buy things like homes for example. Or continually funneling money into reservations which have no economic future. The right in recent years hasn't been much better, shoveling money to corporations instead. At least the right would increase military spending, which isn't a total waste as that can do some good in the world. The sickness I think is that government always wants to be seen as 'doing something' even if that something is usually a complete waste of money. -
Trudeau Impresses European Parlaiment
Nexii replied to ExFlyer's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
You can really feel her contempt for him, it's not just an act -
What we need is a common sense centrist party. The CPC is too far right, and the Liberals have gone too far left.
-
The thing is the right is no better. They think they are but they get it just as wrong and that's why they keep losing elections in Canada. Not allowing trans females to compete at the recreational or fun league level with females is going too far. Same with trying to ban abortions way before a woman can realistically know they are pregnant. I don't think trans females who have gone through puberty before transitioning (which is most today) should be eligible to compete at the elite professional level. Objectively hormones don't undo the growth advantage of male puberty. But it's a complex issue as generally that sort of thing like 'when you started' is considered private medical information.
-
Yea I give it 2 years. This agreement is not as stable as a coalition. Again it's all poll driven. You can bet if the NDP go up and Liberals go down they will call it
-
If you work you already pay for pharmacare and dental. Either it comes out of your paycheque directly or indirectly. As long as the system is no less efficient than private systems, then I don't see how this is really an issue. Could argue that having affordable medicine probably saves in hospital costs, the poor can get medicine before being so sick they have to go to the hospital. A lot of what we do and don't provide for healthcare is pretty arbitrary/nonsensical anyways. Have seen that to the extreme where it comes to trans healthcare. Anyways I don't forgive the NDP for the EA but I think the pharmacare and dental are good things.

Canada's military, how impressive it really is.
Nexii replied to Army Guy's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Our procurement and choices of military equipment seem terrible. We tend to buy outdated junk rather than a smaller quantity of modernized equipment. Our jets are 40 years old and our best ships are 30 years old. Should be purchasing new designs every 15-20 years for this sort of stuff. -
World Economic Forum (WEF) Influence on Canadian Policy
Nexii replied to West's topic in Federal Politics in Canada
Economically, it's hard to deny that the West functions more and more like one giant country with countries becoming more like states. The Ukraine War has really shown how tied-together world commerce is now. Even China can't funnel help into Russia like in eras past. While I'm not crazy over globalism, it would be better if such organizations were more democratic. Even the UN is not very democratic since if you're a deemed a special country you can veto anything against you. The WEF even less so. And so on with all the global organizations like the IMF, ICC, WTO, Interpol, etc. -
Not an expert on the Geneva Conventions but are they outdated for modern warfare?

World Economic Forum (WEF) Influence on Canadian Policy

I don't think you need to be a conspiracy theorist to see that the Emergency Act was a power grab, and borderline into coup territory. All this conspiracy stuff detracts from the core issues. Only around 5-10% of people are of the personality type that want to believe any dumb conspiracy that's cooked up. That being said I think Trudeau's ideology is highly influenced by WEF. But I don't think WEF is controlling him in some secret shadow cabal. If they were that powerful we'd already be much further down the path of totalitarianism.
