Boycotting Schools Over Pride Events
Boges replied to Zeitgeist's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
They think promoting "Pride" is promoting deviant sexual behaviour and kids shouldn't be exposed to that. Completely ignoring the fact that they're basically telling Gay kids that something is wrong with them. The exact opposite of the Love they propose they get from Jesus. -

https://www.cbc.ca/player/play/2218558020001#:~:text=Ontario's York Catholic District School,to board meetings several times. Pride is nothing new. Pride Parades were popular in Canada in the 90's. The idea that promoting Gay Pride is grooming children for pedophiles is gross hatred. https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-features/target-controversy-far-right-lgbtq-1234743159/ -

Ontario considering restricting Gambling Advertising
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
The thing about Gambling is that betting on the likely outcomes produces paltry returns. This is why, most betting involves point spreads. It's not enough to predict a win, you have to predict how much a team will win by. It's all in the House's favour, but people actually think they're smart enough to beat the house. -

The amount of Sport Gambling that's inundating all forms of sports media is annoying and intrusive. Gambling is like the Lottery. A tax on the dumb and stupid. ? -

It's kind of like plain advertising on Tobacco products. Don't glorify gambling. -
Ontario needs to invest in EVs as a realistic Option.
Boges replied to Boges's topic in Provincial Politics in Canada
Again, I don't need to convince you. No one should be forced to get an EV at this stage, and no one is. But 300+ kms a charge on a tech that's only been around in any usable nature for what 5 years? That's pretty good IYAM. It'll get way better in the next 5. No, but if we're using Roadtrips as the main obstacle to EV adoption, it's pretty silly to say I won't accept all these benefits, because I may have to take an extra pee break on my annual road trip. -

I'm not going to address every point made in your diatribe. But this is exactly what's happening. The "moral" issue is the idea that we should stop relying on Dino Juice for global transportation. You seem attacked that governments are asking people to actually pay for pollution now. Well that's the only way we'll actually start to think about reducing pollution. And developing nations still amount for a fraction of the global pollution vs developed nations. Your next two vehicles can be ICE without giving much thought to an EV. But come mid-2030, I suspect much of the issues you bring up will be address. But the only way they'll be addressed is if we start investing in the shift today. Which is happening, despite the protest from people who want cheap gas, large vehicles and no consquences. -
Does it make sense to continue funding Ukraine?
Boges replied to Novemberishere's topic in The Rest of the World
It's weird how, we as a society, can justify wars in the middle-east for decades because of 911. The Trillions of dollars, and lives lost spent trying to make Arab nations more Western. The first decade of this century was dedicated to a War on Terror. The implications of Russia being allowed to Ukraine are much worse than allowing the Taliban to take back Afghanistan or allowing Iran to basically have outright influence in Iraq, which is what those wars wrought. Russia will not stop at Ukraine. Putin wants to rebuild the Soviet Union. If NATO has one purpose it's keeping Russia from expanding West in Europe. If funding Ukraine, does that. So be it. The US spends more on Defense than all other allies combined, if helping another democracy defend itself against a tyrant, what good is all that money spent for? -

So you're going to drive 400 kms and not want to take a pee break or get food? Does the 45 extra minutes you may have to wait for a charge get helped by the fact you're paying a fraction for the transportation costs. And the fact that that for the vast majority of the time you're using the EV you don't even really have to think about refuelling all that much, as it's done overnight when Hydro rates are at the lowest. You can't speak out of both sides of your ass. You can't complain about the upfront cost of EVs and not concede that they save a lot of money throughout the life of your car. The only service costs I've had on my EV in the last year plus is replacing the cabin air filter and swapping out Winter Tires. -

Modern fast chargers have cooling systems. Though these batteries aren't really meant to Fast Charge every day. The idea is charge overnight on a 30 amp outlet. Most modern EVs can charge in under 30 minutes, for Roadtrip purposes. -

Cite where you JT has called you a bad person for driving an ICE. They've set a goal, but if no one buys EVs then that goal is moot. Right now, I'd contend the biggest obstacle to EV adoption is availability, not the concerns you bring up. As more people do adopt EVs it'll become harder to find gas stations, and they'll probably charge even more because it'll be financially more difficult to ship liquid fuel to every street corner. And BTW, just because you specifically don't care about Climate change, doesn't mean a good chunk of the population agree. You'll find some serious inconvenience when Carbon Taxes make affording gas an issue for many people. -

That's such a narrow view of the divide between EVs and ICE vehicles. If you're driving a car over 300 kms a day and filling up every day, I guess EV tech isn't there for you . . . yet. But if you have Home Charging, you barely have to think about re-filling. It's full in the morning and unless you're driving an ungodly amount throughout the day you'll be fine. But I can't fill up in 5 minutes!!!! This will never work!!!! Awww muffin. -

We've been over this. They're mostly compact cars that are usually poorly equipped. Having them nicely equipped will likely bring them over $30k. But again, if you're in the market for a 25K New car, you're not going be getting an EV yet. Asian Automakers are the only ones that even play in the Compact sector anymore. -

That's my situation. The hybrid is an option when range anxiety is real. You'll see people say EVs are too expensive, but they want to do lots of roadtrips in big SUVs. Do you want your transportation to be affordable or not? New Tech always relies on early adopters who are willing to sacrifice on a few things. -

And how many of these families that do roadtrips every weekend, don't already have multiple vehicles for different purposes. Opponents talk out of both sides of their ass. -

Solving the problem would be not driving private cars anymore. But that's Agenda 21 BS right? Battery tech has lots of room for improvement. The ICE model has seemingly maxed out on all possible efficiencies. Perhaps cite what you're getting at here. If you own a garage and drive under 200 kms a day, why wouldn't an EV be for you? -

We've been over all the points you've made in this post in this thread. The new one is now that they're ugly because they don't have Grilles? I've said over and over again, that EVs in their current form, are not for everyone and infrastructure will need to be built up. Which is actually the point of the OP. We keep getting cheaper EVs (relative to ICE vehicles) and ones with higher ranges. That will continue as the decade moves on. And Battery tech will likely move away from some of the more problematic and difficult minerals. To say that EV battery tech is worse than continuing to rely on infrastructure that has oil drilled, refined and transported to within 5 kms of everyone in this country is laughable. But some people are outright Anti-EV as if it's some socialist plot. -
I, more or less, work from the office most days, but can work from home when required. But I actually have an office at work, I don't have people walking by seeing everything I do. For those that work in open concept environments, I would not want to be required to go back to that. It's the open concept environments that hamper good productivity.
