  1. That's true, and it's my pleasure to look over the border and laugh at the combination of arrogance and ignorance that has led Americans to having one of the strangest leaders in the world, if not history. I'm sure he'll be remembered along with luminaries such as Caligula, Henry VI, Joanna of Castile, Ivan the Terrible, George the Third, and other similar nutbars.
  2. Oh, to whom do these three buttocks belong - Betsy, DogonPorch, Shady, OftenWrong, Taxme, WCM? Although I'd have said their heads are tucked elsewhere, given their support for the current orange-haired idiot-in-chief to the South of us.
  3. Since I've been ignoring all stories about Hunter Biden, it's pretty hard to form an opinion one way or the other. So, at this point I don't know if he's guilty as charged by "fake" news A or innocent of all charges per "fake" news B. Ultimately, it doesn't matter though. We're unlikely to know the truth regardless of who happens to end up the next US President. Trump is a horror, but as some have said - he's only a symptom of a much bigger problem, and electing Biden isn't going to fix that problem.
  4. assuming anything that criticizes Trump is 'fake news' and anything that criticizes Biden (father or son) is not fake news.
  5. This guy knew 4 years ago who Trump is ...
  6. No idea what the story even is, only noting the way Trump cultists twist and turn to keep their God intact. Trump is the one who put "Brown Shirts" in the street to intimidate and apprehend law-abiding citizens, just because they disagree with him politically. Once in a while I misspeak, which is a damn sight better than living my life deluded into thinking an immoral liar and con can do no wrong, while believing every stupid conspiracy theory that deifies Trump or demonizes democrats/progressives.
  7. Still. NYP posting anti-Trump is "fake news", posting anti-Biden is word of God.
  8. Wow, who knew the NYT wasn't just an anti-Trump rag spreading "fake news". Funny how they're suddenly reporting accurately.
  9. Turns out Sweden's Covid response puts them on par with worst hit countries in death rate (UK, France, US) and their economy suffered more than almost anywhere in Europe.  Government officials have also misled their citizens, and the world, about their goals and the outcome of their plan.  True agenda and poor outcome is revealed through inter-governmental correspondence and contradicts public statements.

You should really look at up to date economic data.  You’ll realize you’re completely wrong.  Sweden is back to life before covid.

I watched it; how else would I know that it's a bunch of reassuring images?

How is an economic downturn the same or greater than neighbors, combined with more deaths than their neighbors, a "success", Shady.  Can you answer that?

Here's another reality-based examination of Sweden's response, from scientists and researchers within Sweden, which the  - https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2020/10/it-s-been-so-so-surreal-critics-sweden-s-lax-pandemic-policies-face-fierce-backlash.

In the population as a whole, the impact of Sweden’s approach is unmistakable. More than 94,000 people have so far been diagnosed with COVID-19, and at least 5895 have died. The country has seen roughly 590 deaths per million—on par with 591 per million in the United States and 600 in Italy, but many times the 50 per million in Norway, 108 in Denmark, and 113 in Germany.

From the International Monetary Fund, a paper examining the economic performance of Sweden's non-lockdown policy:

      Quote

By contrast, the economic ramifications of a less stringent containment strategy remain uncertain. As of September 2020, IMF staff, the Swedish authorities, the National Institute of Economic Research (NIER), and commercial banks all project a severe recession in Sweden, ranging from around -5 to -3 percent. Although the range of the projected contraction is less steep than the average forecast for advanced economies, it is not much different from some other Nordic countries.  In Sweden’s case, the evidence on erosion remains mixed, not least because GDP growth in 2020:Q2 was worse than in peers, while the cumulative performance in 2020:H1 remains relatively favorable.

And, as many resources I looked at have mentioned:

      Quote

We also argue that the economic impact of the containment strategy depends on social behavior, demographics and the structure of the economy, and it is still premature to judge the outcome of Sweden’s containment strategy as it will depend on developments in the next quarters.

The full story is not yet written, but so far there seems no particularly upside to Sweden's approach.

  10. Republicans try cheating in California by setting up fake ballot collection boxes. Their excuse? "Ballot harvesting is legal in California", completely ignoring the rules that make it legal. Now they could face charges.
  11. Oh, you looked it up, good job. And I'm well aware of what your side of the 'political aisle' are saying. They say that because they refuse to see that Trump is who he is. His bad behavior is always explained away because of someone or something else, never does he or his supporters take responsibility. Essentially your side of the politcal aisle is no longer rational. Rational people of all political stripes are on the other side of this aisle.
  12. Court frustrates Republican's attempt to suppress votes by limiting ballot drop-off locations to one per county.
  13. How about Scaramucci's reply: Ignore. He is having a hard enough time. Some more bad stuff about to go down. What more 'bad stuff', one wonders.
  14. You don't actually know who is 'in charge' of the debates, do you.
  15. Perhaps they could deploy the "cone of silence" on his side of the stage.
  16. They should be able to do the same in person, don't they wear microphones? Just get a remote connection, shut down the mic when his time is up. He could keep talking, or at least we could see his lips moving, but the other guy could get a word in edgewise.
  17. The same one who said this:
  18. I don't suppose you've ever made an error, and not noticed for a few hours/days/weeks/months, eh? Yes, it is an error. Corrected. Yes, you can question about whether they should have adjusted historical data or included it in current data. When I was bookkeeping, if we discovered an error in that was made in the previous year, we couldn't go back and change the previous year, but there had to be a correction made - so it would be made in the current year. I don't know the system for tracking deaths, but it could be there is some reason, aside from your paranoid assumptions, that meant counting it in the current month was necessary. And somehow I think that if they'd gone back and adjusted numbers in previous months, you'd find fault with that based on the idea that this is some scam to scare people. Ultimately, though, it's not really important. The total number of deaths won't be known for some time, if ever. They're still guesstimating that the 1918 flu killed between 20 million and 50 million people over 3 years. We'll never know for sure, and we won't know for a long time yet just how deadly it is or isn't, or what the long term effects might be for some people. Ranting about how the government/media/whatever is trying to 'scare' us, as people actually get sick and die, is pretty dumb honestly. Why does it bother you so much that most people want to take precautions to ensure they don't get sick and die, or don't infect their parents/grandparents and kill them?
  19. When should they correct themselves?
  20. Biden has said he won't ban new fracking on private land, only on Federally owned lands. He's also said that he wouldn't interfere with current fracking operations. Source: Politico.
  21. Isreali researchers see 50% decrease in sperm among men who've had Coronovirus, raising concerns about infertility. More research is needed, but similar and permanent infertility have been seen in men who've had SARS or Mumps. It'll be a long time till we know the full effects of Covid-19. Almost everything at this point really is speculation.
  22. Found out this morning, reading Politico, that Trump never did say "The virus is a Democratic hoax."  Instead, he said that the Democrat's criricism of how he handled the virus was foisting a hoax on Americans.

Think I'll refer to Politico more often when trying to filter information from misinformation.

Snopes also says Trump never called the virus a hoax, so despite claims here that Snopes can't be trusted, I'll keep Snopes as reference as well.  The more sources, the better.

Now, it seems, Biden has undergone a dramatic transformation on the issue, lauding the Supreme Court for its decision in June Medical Services v. Russo.

“Women’s health care rights have been under attack as states across the country have passed extreme laws restricting women’s constitutional right to choice under any circumstance,” Biden said in a statement. “Today the U.S. Supreme Court reaffirmed that states cannot put in place laws that unduly burden a women’s right to make her own health care decision with her doctor.”

Biden/Harris have only said they want to codify Roe vs. Wade, which leaves the States free to set their own laws regarding abortion once the fetus is viable.

Which mean...... Biden/Harris will support late-term and partial abortion should the state make it their law!

If I was in the US, I'd vote using a Drop Box. Some states are even restriction those.

  24. I complain about that too; it's why I thought PR would be a better system - I do not defend it, and his failing that promise lost Trudeau my vote in - so no double standard here. That's the difference between partisan people and non-partisan people. My guy, always right, is a stupid political philosophy. I see. So refusing Jews refuge and throwing Japanese-Americans in camps, while stealing their property was ok? America can't learn to be a better and more humanitarian country through her past mistakes? Any kind of corruption, excess, cruelty and stupidity among your leaders is acceptable, in America? How is America different from third world countries, then? Because they are (not yet) actually slaughtering their citizens? How far down that road are you, personally, willing to go with Trump/GOP - or any party, if the Democrats gained power and continued down that path.
  25. Death count is higher, and their economy isn't doing as well as their neighbors, who did have a more complete shut down. Loss-loss for Sweden, but not as a bad a loss as it would have been for the US to have done the same. Too many in the US aren't interested in following health guidelines - including the President - and too many put their individual "rights" ahead of the safety of the community. Sweden at least has a sense of community responsibility which meant that many people locked themselves down, and did not need a government mandate to do so.
