  1. I can find plenty of news reports about right-wingers perpetuating crimes against Muslims, Christians (and others) slaughtering Muslims (and others), Christians (and others) engaging in honor killings, FGM, religious violence. The fact that you don't know about it is because nobody is shoving it down your throat with sites like "Jihadiwatch" and "The Religion of Peace". The mistake the posters to this thread make is pretending that they are any different than the Muslims who are intolerant toward Jews/Christians/gays/etc. You can claim your lack of extreme action makes you 'different' but the tribalism you and they exhibit springs from the same well. Just as I'd like to eliminate the intolerance and extremism exhibited by some portion of the Muslim population, I'd like to eliminate the intolerance and extremism exhibited by some portion of Canadians/Americans/Europeans/etc.
  2. I'm not surprised you'd resort to misogynistic, sexist insults when bested by a woman.
  3. I agree that it would make it to more media outlets than just that of an avowed Islamophobe.
  4. Why not? There are extremists in Islam, as you well know. Why would you automatically assume this isn't true? At least you should provide some contradictory evidence.
  5. He works in immigration and understands how the system works; I've worked on the other side of that - getting temp work visas, and its not a piece of cake. It's far easier to bring in people from Europe for temp work, than people from India or the ME. But, as expected, you toss out everything he's said in favor of your own ignorant opinions, littering your response with insults and ad hominem attacks. And you claim he's incapable of having mature discussion. Clearly, a "mature discussion" means simply repeating your opinion back to you - like an echo chamber. Remember how fast you got banned from some other discussion forums, on Reddit, iirc. Maybe its not them who are unreasonable, but you.
  6. As opposed to the actual racism exhibited by people ascribing laziness, criminality and unacceptable in Western White society to entire groups of people based on their ethnicity. So bad ideas will be destroyed in the "marketplace of ideas", claim proponents of unfettered free speech. Clearly that's not happening. Xenophobes are supported by other Xenophobes in their bubble, and they fail to see how their tribal attitudes are mirrors of the same tribal attitudes that result in extreme actions around the world - beheadings, "re-education camps", genocide. The lack of extreme action in Western countries doesn't mean the tribalism of this group as exemplified by the far-right posters here is any different than the tribalism of Islamists against Westerners or the Chinese and Indians against Muslims.
  7. Speaking for yourself again, I see.
  8. Do you pay any attention to experts in the field of immigration? No of course not, because your agenda doesn't allow any information that contradicts your ill-informed "opinion".
  9. If they're refugees trying to escape war, why not both? Anyway, because of fears about Jews, similar to the ones you express about Syrians, we refused to take Jews. Maybe we could work at being a better country now, instead of repeating our past mistakes.
  10. Agree; it would also be a benefit if "we the public" better understood that the scientific method requires patience, with changes in conclusions as research bring about better understanding. The notion that a change in understanding followed by a change in recommendations means somebody lied, people are incompetent or there's some kind of conspiracy is a problem with too many people, imo. Progress is not a straight line from A to B, but is a meandering path, with false trails and backtracking to the last fork. It will be years before we know and truly understand the complete effect of this pandemic. How many people who contract the virus actually get sick or die? How many illnesses result in "long-haulers", how long will they be sick, and does Covid affect a person's lifespan, even if they recover within a few weeks? Too many people, often supported by politicians, throw out common sense, demanding simple and immutable answers now!
  11. More info on the hydroxichloriquine study withdrawn by Lancet. One of the study's authors owned and was using a dataset that wasn't accurate, maybe even didn't exist. The other two authors weren't given access to the data, even after questions were raised and they asked to see it. The study claimed H was actively harmful, so other studies were stopped. WHO resumed studies on H after the paper was withdrawn. As a result of this, Lancet has changed several of its editorial policies. Among other changes, Lancet will require that all study authors verify the data that's used, and all authors confirm in writing they had access to the data.
  12. 1. I don't read everything on this site; do you? 2. If you post some studies and they seem to be from a credible source, with credible information, why would I challenge them? 3. And anyway, I did respond to those - my post yesterday, 1:33 p.m.:
  13. I'll look forward to factual information from you, and as is the responsibility of anyone who cares about fighting fake news and misinformation, I'll investigate as I see fit, and challenge posts that reference use stupid and incredible sources. You don't like that? Oh well. I don't need your approval or acknowledgement. The woman you suggested had credible info on Covid treatment uses prayer in her medical practice, and believes that people can be made sick by demons. That's not her "private time"; that's how she does her job.
  14. Yes, you are correct that polls indicated strong support for slowing immigration. My objection to, in particular, is the way in which you make claims that immigrants from certain countries/religions, are given priority status, declarations about how useless our immigration system is, claims about the laziness and criminality of certain immigrants. You make these declarations without a shred of proof, and if anyone with actual knowledge, experience or expert information says anything contrary, you accuse them of lying or too stupid to doubt what the government, media, or "leftist" studies are saying - because as far as you are concerned, all these institutions have an "agenda." Fortunately, Canadians like you are a minority. Anyway, you're right - I should just ignore you.
  15. 1. Why should I, or anyone, believe someone who appears to be some weird cross between a witch doctor/faith healer/western doc, who says crazy things almost daily? Why did you? 2. I looked at those, as well. The study finding that there was some percentage less deaths when treated with hydroxichloriquine said, in their study, that more research was needed. They also excluded people over 65 from their study - that in itself would allow for better outcomes. So, maybe this drug deserves more study, but so far there is isn't nearly enough proof that this is a cure. 3. You specifically pointed out that speaker in your OP; it wasn't me just selecting the least credible person. 4. Yes, that is abundantly clear. Maybe you should start, instead of just grabbing anything that supports your POV. 5. Again, abundantly obvious. 6. Why should I let an attempt to spread bullshit remain unchallenged? Everybody agrees that fake news is a problem, until they're the ones spreading it, of course. 7. Hey, you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
  16. And that destructive form of tribalism will only increase as long as there are people like you hammering away on how unacceptable certain groups are - be it Muslims, brown immigrants, leftists or women in power. Especially when your "information" is misleading at best, and outright wrong at worst. You group people under some umbrella and then you condemn all of them based on their most extreme members. That's destructive to communication, discussion, problem solving and eventually even our society. Luckily, you and yours are still a tiny minority in Canada, so I can hope we won't be following in America's heels.
  17. Nowhere in the video does it say she treated them in hospital. She says they came to her clinic scared to death because of what a doctor told them, so she treated them and none died. Which begs the questions - how sick were they, and would they have done just as well with no treatment. She also goes on to say that waiting for double-blind studies to prove the drug works is unethical. Yes, you do. They aren't good reasons, but you have them.
  18. Sex is a natural human instinct, but that doesn't make rape ok. Tribalism, taken to extremes, results in people removing heads of "the others". Civilized people do not just blindly follow their instincts - whether its raping or killing. Civilized people recognize that while tribalism may have served a useful purpose in a prehistoric society, in today's modern world it is destructive.
  19. Its the result of a certain set of beliefs, supported by a refusal to consider any information that doesn't support those beliefs. Kind of a deliberate ignorance.
  20. Oh. So a doc who believes in demon possession can be trusted about Coronavirus treatments. The partisan gullibility is strong in this one.
  21. *sighing*. So, this looked intriguing to me, and the first part was interesting and I agreed with much of it, though I hope that there won't be any violence, regardless of who wins the election. But then, of course, the true agenda comes out - demonize the left. If it's "both sides", Argus, then why do you and your article only talk about how the left is at fault because it wants to tear up its own history, tear down the statues of their own founders, and completely change America? Does the right have no responsibility in this lack of ability to communicate across the gulf? Somehow, I very much doubt that if you asked any random left-leaning person, they'd say "yeah, I want to destroy America and everything it stands for!". Could it be that while some people think removing overt symbols of the worst of America's past, America will be made better, while other people believe that part of honoring America includes keeping those symbols of history? Could not both sides love their country, want to keep it strong, and want to improve it where needed? Wouldn't it be nice if we could have a conversation without hysterical accusations of "racist assholes" from the left and "assholes destroying America" from the right. Sheesh.
  22. Were they ever, really? I don't know, but I suspect not. I think perhaps it's just a lot more evident now. And probably no different in any other country.
  23. Yeah, yeah. As long as whoever he nominates is competent and fair, and not someone kind of loonytune who believes that demons sleep with people to create more demons, like the doctor he champions.
  24. Third Doctor is Dr. Stella Immanuel. She believes that governments are creating a vaccine against religion, blames illnesses on witches and demons - it works like this: "They (demons) turn into a woman and then they sleep with the man and collect his sperm… then they turn into the man and they sleep with a man and deposit the sperm and reproduce more of themselves," she said during a sermon in 2013." So, you can believe her if you want to, but I'm going to believe someone a little less backward. Here's her YouTube channel, in case you want to, for instance, expose the BLM witches, or pray your own witches away. https://www.youtube.com/user/firpowerministries/videos ____________________________________ More info, in case you'd like that instead of witchcraft and demons. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-53579773 https://www.snopes.com/news/2020/07/30/americas-frontline-doctors/
