Is the world getting better or worse ?
OftenWrong replied to Michael Hardner's topic in The Rest of the World
Look at the news around the world. These people are getting ready for war. Re-militarization in every country. Even Japan. Even... Canada. Makes me think maybe these world leaders know something you people don't know. But in terms of social justice, the divide between haves and have-nots increasing. People being taught to despise one another by our leaders. People saw what we did to one another during covid. Infrastructures crumbling, systems failing and no leader stepping forward to do anything useful about it. Instead we are force-fed a useless woke agenda that tries to solve a problem that does not really exist. Fifty years eh? Carry on... -
That would be sweet. I like seeing Froederik Andersen still in it. The teams are boring to watch now to me, but I'd like to see Carolina go all the way because of Andersen and Brent Burns.

@Greg It seems like posting consecutive replies are getting merged. Is this intentional?

I went to school in the 70's, and we were all taught that. So this perceived need to make a correction (by whom?) is not necessary imo. We learned to accept gays. To wit - Gay marriage has been legal in Canada for decades. But Gays are not Drag Queens, that's where I make a departure. A drag queen is intended to be a spectacle for shock value and entertainment. If I were queer and wanted to be accepted and taken seriously by my peers, I wouldn't want them to be used by schools to "represent me".

Ontario needs to invest in EVs as a realistic Option.

I've seen some images where a drag queen was brought into a classroom to do her thing. She gave one of the students a lap-dance. That image seemed inappropriate to me and I don't consider it part of a quality education. I don't have a strong opinion about transvestites, but Drag Queens are not the same thing. In my opinion using these people to educate the young about sexual diversity does the transgender community a disservice, because they are not to be taken seriously. In my opinion they are a vaudeville act that is for adult entertainment. This thread is about cars here, so moving on. -

Well at least you are not overly concerned about the health of our kidneys. Maybe perspective prefers to use a pisss-jug to save time. Man, you can't even say p i s s in this neo-leftist forum. -

Possibly. Judging things is more of a conservative hallmark compared to liberal permissiveness. Like my pappy used to say, "if it looks like poopoo and smells like poopoo, you doesn't have to taste it." -

Conservative values means doing things according to what is natural as opposed to progressive intervention. In this case progressives want to expose kids to drag queen shows. I'm for letting them do what they want in their own private setting but not in public. IE the classroom. Traditional position is to protect children from harm until they are old enough to fully understand their choices. Desantis has done this by restricting sex change operations until the person is 18. We can quibble about the age but it doesn't matter. What matters most is preventing those with a specific political sexual agenda from bringing that to the kids. Leaving them alone to grow up naturally as we all did, as everyone before us did, is not political manipulation. -

Are you suggesting we need to have government- mandated pee breaks? -

I'm surprised at this because I have the opposite view. Not that I've read everything he said but certainly in this thread his views and contributions are informative. Ok, maybe not as good as mine, but, if no rules are being broken, no one is being personally offensive, then it's a matter of preference. Perhaps you just find his views dull and boring. But I've probably said similar things about you, once. I seem to recall once saying you were a poster who "writes posts the way white bread tastes". Now the irony is, you're one of the few that I bother to read and respond to. This is what we've come down to. I feel his selfish comments, whether sincere or not are representative of the attitude of many many people in this country and cannot be discounted. The idea that we have to make these new EV's more reliable, affordable and appealing is a smart one, and the time is getting short. We have to be concerned about the cost, performance and that government intervention needs to be checked as they're sure to screw things up. As per usual. This is a major change being proposed that affects many industries and the economy. My argument is not against EV's in principle, but that we might end up screwing ourselves and further creating division in our society between the haves and have-nots. That's why Boges likes them so much... -

Let's consider the power needed to do what you're asking. A little morning-math. Assume a car needs about 100 horse-power to run at full power. One HP is about 750 watts, so in order to run at full power on the highway, it is consuming 75 kW. What does that mean? Compare it to your laundry drier, for example. Most driers operate at 5 kW. The total heat generated from the vehicle is equivalent to about 75/5= 15 times higher than a household drier. Now you want to restore the energy which was used over a 6 hour period, in about ten minutes. Since every hour has 6 ten-minute intervals, the charge rate needs to be 6 x 6 = 36 times higher than the discharge rate. The power during charging would be proportional. From this you can see how much heat would be generated during charging. That battery gonna exppplllloddde -

I'm not sure why you have attacked this poster here, whom I have not seen insult anyone in his posts yet. Were you feeling cranky this morning? These are the kind of people we want to keep around, not the idjiot factory. -

Leave the kids alone and let them grow up naturally, until they reach the age of reason. Because they are the most vulnerable. Keep politics out of it. Those are conservative values. -

Obviously they are still allied with the communist Rus, so that idea didn't work at all. Look at us now. Not only are they more technological and economically advanced, now they own us. There's a wise old man saying should be inserted here, something about a fool etc. -

It's not a partisan issue. It's more of a class issue than political, in that the financial class wanted to get their money in China. Cheap labour makee cheap shirtee. Me, I hated the idea from day one and still do. Not because of the Chinese as a race or whatever, no. In fact some of my best friends are... but I digress. Because we knew we were feeding the dragon. How more obvious can it be? We heard all this hooey about making China a partner and friend through economic ties. Well look at you people now.
