  1. We are a diverse group of greedy bastards, and you expect us to get together and cooperate? And quickly as well? Let's be realistic for a moment... that is just not going to happen. Call me a prophet but I say there is no way at all that we are going to pull this off and reach any sort of targets. No sir. The opposite will happen. We are all going up, up up.
  2. 1. I agreed there are two many factors to point to one thing alone, so I thought we have moved on from this point already. 2. Gangs may kill for turf war, or to get new turf. They are aggressive. It seems like the lone shooter want to kill as an act of a protest against something, they believe they are somehow on the defensive. For example: - Shooters like Brevik, to preserve the white European "race". - Angry about degenerate society, Ted Kaczynski types. - Protect our liberty types. Probably the Vegas shooter. - Don't get laid, alienated by women types. - This might in fact be the root cause for all of them, looking at the above list. It may at least be a useful warning sign, and point towards possible therapy.
  3. It's nice to see you're not a completely incorrigible monster after all! But you are wrong once again, BubberMiley. No one here is saying we want to be irresponsible. We need to do something, but not just anything. People cannot be persuaded to give up their wealth and happiness to accomplish nothing. Some of these proposals do that, accomplish nothing. Yet the do benefit certain groups over others, in terms of where the money goes. I say that is a threat to achieving the goal of addressing climate change as well. Climate change scammers.
  4. And they could. What is the purpose or logic behind mass shootings... many factors are behind it. It is typically a reaction to something, done because of something. Question is, what. There are different motivations in different instances, so there is not a single purpose or logic. Safe to say malevolence is deeply ingrained in our human nature. It cannot be completely eliminated, nor understood.
  5. Climate change is being used to manipulate people for fun and profit. If you can make a case that your business is essential for dealing with climate change, it's practically a guaranteed win.
  6. Lower population is an influencing factor, yes, but purely due to the numbers game. If a small town of 100,000 people has 4 murders, the rate is 4/100,000. If a city of 3M people has 100 murders, the rate is 3.3/100,000. The small town has the higher murder rate.
  7. The evil of statistics. There are too many contributing factors, to look at it from one perspective alone.
  8. Perhaps it's the lower population?
  9. Right, exactly. But there is a difference with the Cuba-Russia connection. Cuba may also be connected to the JFK assassination. When the new Castro took leadership there was a brief chance to make the relationship right, and presumably would have meant Cuba to realign itself with the west. Turn away from Russia. Obviously it didn't happen
  10. This one's by Canadian songwriter Robbie Robertson
  11. Today young people are brought up in the world of the internet, and many think of it as some kind of blessed oracle. Just ask a question of the Googler, he will tell you everything. In fact, much more than you want to know. And yet I learned so much more in my childhood than my kids did. My kids didn't go outside as much as I did. They didn't go skating. They didn't hang out and play tag all day with other kids. They don't know how to tie a fishing knot, nor will they likely ever need to. Their main portal to reality is the web browser, and for that I pity them. We unleashed the internet, a total revolution without considering the social impact it would have on us. We need to put the genie back in the bottle.
  12. Thats not what MH and I were discussing.
  13. I find that these shootings have done nothing more than increase the political divide to greater extremes. Political discourse today is just a bunch of outraged people talking at each other, making baseless accusations at every opportunity. The victim's bodies were not even cold yet before the political accusations started flying. Does anyone else see how repugnant this situation is becoming, or am I the only one?
  14. Really wondering who is "onside with most aspects of the killing."
  15. Understanding statistics and math is definitely not your strong suit. Stick to counting fish.
  16. CBC news and other media quoting James Comey, of all people, blaming Trump for the shootings. Liberals have got themselves into such an extreme ideological twist, they cannot change course. It's amazing that they think people are buying their pathetic narrative anymore. It will be their undoing.

I guess you two don't understand the point I am making here. I know what you mean, but this is not about that. It's a condemnation of the media.

Really, because your original post seemed to be criticizing Comey for blaming Trump? That criticism might be warranted, but you can't blame media for covering it - that is what they do.  Just like they covered a Republican claiming that gay marriage and family breakdown is the cause of the Dayton shooting.

FWIW, I don't think guns or Trump can be blamed for either massacre.  I do think they are part of the equation though.

      Corrections:   Trump is not anti-immigrant!

      Trump is anti-ILLEGAL immigrant!

  17. It figures...
  18. Rather like a domino effect when it happens. Imagine hackers release a virus that affects the whole network, in such a way that cars go completely amok. CAN-bus systems, or similar are commonly used to control complex machines such as vehicles. Each CAN node is a small remote terminal unit that communicates with the main program. It is two-way communication. If the communication fails in any way, the CAN-node is capable of running its own program independently. Not that it can necessarily drive a car on its own but it goes to the default state of the program, which can be as simple as stopping all vehicles. But you are right that it will pose a security risk and create another technology war. For humans, it shall ever be thus.
  19. Forcing China to pay more is not a tax on our goods. It is recognition that their forms of production are unacceptable to us. The ability to exploit or circumvent certain rules and standards is often granted to third world countries that do not have the infrastructure to support them yet. China has somehow got on this list, yet they're a superpower. That gives them a major advantage over both the US and Russia.
  20. Fear not, mighty console warrior. You will still be able to buy your precious Chinese computers and smartphones that will soon be smarter than you. Donald Trump is just shaking things up a little. The road to a better deal will be long and hard, this late in the game. That's why it takes a real man to step forward and finally say, enough.
  21. Not just me. There is so much bureaucracy in the EU it's hard to track. The EU Commission is the non-democratic organization that Europeans take issue with. They are appointed by the EU council. Link
  22. No, the EU council is the main irritation.
  23. Unrequited expectations are a terrible thing, aren't they.
  24. If I were to correct you every time you're wrong, I'd be a rather busy fellow.
  25. It's one thing to have your own immigration policies, ones that the people have a say in, by vote. It's something else to have these policies imposed by a third party, one that people cannot vote for.
