  2. Ah, there it is. I was wondering what this thread was really about. It's not about "equality" at all. It's a condemnation of Western values.

  3. It depends what kind of equality you want. Equality of opportunity, or equality of outcome? In Canada people have the freedom to do and be whatever they want, as long as it doesn't interfere with other people's rights.

  5. Maybe be upfront about that in your title, then. If you want to start a thread to condemn the Western value of "equality", then just be honest about it. Because people are replying to it as a discussion of "equality" and you are responding to replies with condemnation of Western values and false personal attacks.

  6. Your rant seems somewhat anecdotal. I'm not seeing huge criticism of JT. JT has done a lot right like co-ordinating the assistance required to get everyone to not work. But his daily briefings are dull and useless. May as well skip his briefing and starting watching when Tam, Freeland and Co do theirs.

  7. Equality isn't a value, it is a comparative status that means that something is equal for one and the other. Equality isn't a goal in itself, it is just something that exists because some quantities may be equal. Fairness is different. Let's say for example I make $55/h, because I'm a plumber. Is it unfair for the cashier making $15/h? It sure is unequal because we don't make the same income, but is it unfair?

  8. But all people are not equal in any way, shape or form. Some are more artistically gifted than others. Some are smarter than others. Some have a lot more drive than others. Some have a sense of personal responsibility and others do not. Some are criminally minded and others are honest. Some are highly educated, while others are not. Some are skilled at a much sought-after ability, while others have no skills which are in demand. Some are beautiful and some are ugly. Some are tall and some are short. Some are healthy and some are disabled. Unless you're God you can't make them equal.

  9. There is no other kind of equality which can be achieved in a functional society. Equality of opportunity allows for people to rise on their own skill, effort and merit. The other sort of 'equality' is the equality of results, which allow the incompetent, the lazy, and the stupid to rise to levels beyond their capabilities, to rise above those with more ability, drive and skills. No society can sustain that in any great amounts for any great length of time.

  10. Are you talking about the death rate, infection fatality rate, or the case fatality rate? "In epidemiology, a case fatality rate (CFR) — sometimes called case fatality risk — is the proportion of deaths from a certain disease compared to the total number of people diagnosed with the disease for a certain period of time. A CFR is conventionally expressed as a percentage and represents a measure of disease severity.[1] CFRs are most often used for diseases with discrete, limited time courses, such as outbreaks of acute infections. A CFR can only be considered final when all the cases have been resolved (either died or recovered). The preliminary CFR, for example, during the course of an outbreak with a high daily increase and long resolution time would be substantially lower than the final CFR. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Case_fatality_rate The term infection fatality rate (IFR) also applies to infectious disease outbreaks, and is closely related to the CFR, but attempts to additionally account for all asymptomatic and undiagnosed infections.[7] The IFR differs from the CFR in that it aims to estimate the fatality rate in all those with infection: the detected disease (cases) and those with an undetected disease (asymptomatic and not tested group).[8] (Individuals who are infected, but always remain asymptomatic, are said to have "inapparent" — or silent, or subclinical, or occult — infections.) The IFR will always be lower than the CFR as long as all deaths are accurately attributed to either the infected or the non-infected class."

  11. What protocols? We don't know that yet. It looks like it may well kill more than the flu. Though, let's remeber it isn't here to replace the regular flu — we will have both. Covid-19 might also have come to stay.

  12. Honestly I and many others are mad at their government for covering up the virus, allowing webt markets to flourish, flooding the world with cheap goods, hacking, spying, polluting, arresting innocent Canadians, being a large cancer. I am mad at me and all of us looking the other way angry at not criticizing Chinese government policies and boycotting many of its products knowing how they were made by and in toxic conditions. That said Bruce Lee was a cool dude, and I like Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Seriously there are many bad things to say about the Chinese government but irrational bigotry of all Chinese people is not helpful.. All humans are interconnected in terms of spreading and therefore preventing disease. So I defer to your concern as to any irrational impulses but I reserve the right to loath many of their government policies. As for that bafoon in the Philippines that is another topic. Hey Mandy I can not stand anyone..except you..

  13. One of the major benifits of globalization is reducing the chances of war by increased economic integration. It also reduces costs which increases disposable income.for consumers. As for China in particular, they own a vast amount of debt owed by western nations. What do we do if they feel excluded from the global economy and call the debt? Why are some people on this site so antagonistic towards China, yet not the Phillipines or Brazil?

  15. Hey stupid. Pay attention because it's a serious question you need to consider because lives could depend on it. Why do you think leaving an infected house and just negligently going out in public is a good idea? What would your mother say if you did that? Stay the **** in the basement is my guess.

  16. There's nothing wrong with giving your children the wealth you earned throughout your life. Who do you think should get it? Government? Strangers like you & I who didn't earn it? If their parents did well and worked hard to give their children opportunities, what's wrong with that? If your parents suck, don't make much money, and don't instill good study or work habits in their kids and don't spend time helping them with homework it's not society's fault. One of the huge determinants in your socioeconomic success is your parental upbringing. If you or your parents make poor choices, it's not society's fault. I have a friend whose parents were refugees to Canada, they can't speak English, they live in a poor area of town and don't have much money. But they forced their child to read books instead of watch TV, and made their child bus across the city to the best school they could get them in, and made their child study hard. Their child got into the best university in Canada, then did their masters in a degree that would get them a good job. They'll be in some debt because of those degrees, but that was their calculated choice, they sacrificed for their child. Now their child makes 6 figures. That's equality.

  17. You really lack a sense of humor.... As for cracking down wet markets, I'm not sure if you know what a wet market is? There is a video: There also are wet markets in other Asian countries: I'm not sure if the wet market in Wuhan was the source of Covid19 or just the first victim. Since there are many asymptomatic cases, maybe the virus had already been lurking around the city for a while before the so-called outbreak at the market. Since a wet market is a crowed place, if there are asymptomatic virus carriers, anyone who works in the market may easily be infected. The assumption that the market was the source misled the official who was in charge of the city's medical system to exclude any cases which didn't relate to the market and results the number of infected cases was seriously underestimated. This is so-called "Chinese government cover-up" but it was just a mistake since there wasn't any test kit then, they had no way to clearly distinguish “unexplained pneumonia” with common flue. Recent reports show dog(HK), tiger(US) and cat/turtle/mink (China) can be infected. So there may have more medium to convey the virus from bat to man. And if you search YouTube with key words "bat" and "pet", you will find a lot of these, and obviously they don't live in China:

  21. Equality is about legal codes. Giving everyone the same rights means every Canadian can succeed if they make the right decisions. It's not up to Canadians or government to make sure you make the right choices, it's up to the individual.
