This parliament has a majority of left wing parties. Left wing parties have no respect for freedom of speech or freedom of expression where it involves blaspheming against their sacred values (which change monthly). The entire NDP caucus, including the women, would get erections at the thought of laws to ban offensive speech. I don't think the SCC cares much for freedom of speech, freedom of association, freedom of religion, or freedom of expression where it involves anything offensive to progressive social values. I would not rely on the SCC to protect any of these things. Lawyers in Canada are indoctrinated with progressive social views in law school, which is why Harper wasn't able to find any conservatives to appoint.

Is it the fault of the online hate sites that someone shoots a mosque, or is it the fault of the shooter themselves? You can hate someone without committing violence against them. NO, I can't imagine the courts concluding that "beyond a reasonable doubt". First, because the original publication of that claim online was by a possibly anonymous or fake 'customer' posting a fake review of the hotel on Trip Advisor. So that's the real perpetrator, but the hotel can't remove reviews. Did Trip Advisor remove that review? I don't know ... perhaps. Did police search out that poster to charge them with 'promoting hatred'? Very unlikely ... because repeating a rumour that you "believe" to be true absolves you under the law anyway. It became a much more public issue when Sue-Ann Levy opined about it in her usual nauseating manner, including repeating that fake 'review' ... in her column. She cited her source without verifying it's veracity, a journalistic fault but likely not a legal one: The courts could never prove beyond a reasonable doubt that Levy was intending to promote hatred against refugees. In fact, in responding to complaints, Levy determinedly maintained that her purpose was to bring attention to the plight of these refugees, brought to Canada, and then "abandoned" by the Liberal government. It is, as Moonlight Graham said, a very high bar to even lay charges under Section 319, and even moreso for obtaining a conviction in court that will stick through appeal and Supreme Court challenge.

Yes. There is much to dislike, disapprove, and distrust about Islam and its followers. The religion is violently chauvinistic and preaches distrust and hatred towards all unbelievers. It is also highly political in its ambitions to conquer the world and unite every state under Islam. Why would anyone who isn't a Muslim not disapprove of that or distrust its adherents? It's enforced social values are barbaric and backward and harken back centuries to the savagery of the middle east a thousand years ago. Why would we want to welcome it into Canada or expand the number of its followers here? That doesn't mean that we 'hate' Muslims. It just means that we have rendered an informed judgement as to the wisdom of having them come here.

Blocking ISPs is tantamount to admitting defeat, driving access underground. You have pointed out many times that Canadians want access to American media...and I would add access to American media platforms. It's not like America is purposely bombarding a jammed Canada with Voice of America or Radio Free Europe propaganda...Canadians freely spend their money or pirate the content willingly. It's all aimed at sticking it to the traditionalists and showing how little respect they, the left, have for traditions and cultural values of their countries. Ironically, these are the same people who are almost fanatical about everyone showing utter respect if not open reverence for the cultural and religious traditions of minorities. I read a piece today in Quillette which talked about the Conservative win in the British election and the shifting bases of support between them and Labour. it suggested the working class voter is abandoning Labour because Labour has abandoned them in favor of urban elites and immigrants. And that all they get from Labourites is denigrated and treated with contempt because of their 'traditional' views and attitudes about love of God and Queen and country. Sounds very similar to what we see in the US and Canada.

If I own a business, and I have ten employees working for me, who are paid the minimum wage, and I am now being told that I have to raise everyone's salaries, I would seriously have to think as to whether I should take a drop in my own income or lay two people off. I think that two people will be laid off. Now what? They now either go on unemployment, or they must try to look for another minimum wage paying salary with another business owner. What is killing all businesses in Canada today is just plain too much government, too much bureaucracy, too many rules and regulations, and too many taxes. It is the government that causes inflation and unemployment. The government is here to promote, not stifle, the growth of jobs, and not try to build up a bureaucracy, as they seem to be always trying to do all the time, which then creates more new taxes to run that bureaucracy for the taxpayer to have to pay for. There can be no doubt about it that the "government "IS" the problem". Downsize politicians and bureaucrats, now. Works for me.
