Such things happened long before Trump....welcome to an amoral world. Trump actually bombed Russians in Syria...Obama wouldn't. What did Canada/Trudeau do about the Saudis ? Weak ass tweets but continued the $15 billion LAV export contract.3 points

Love you, CKWS News, for your small-town format and emphasis on local content. The morning show is run by two guys, one guy seems like he's real smart, the other acts kinda dumb. Or he might really be dumb, it doesn't matter much out here. These two play off each other very well. They handle everything, local news, international news of significance (sans the opinion and hype! thank you! thank you!). One guy does the weather with the blue screen thing. They try their best. This morning's cultural immersion story is how someone figured out how to use a McDonald's french-fry container to hold the ketchup. By folding down the lip of the box on one side, you have a small container. You can put your ketchup in there, and dip your fries. Awesome idea! Mind blown! Word has it the producer, an old-school news guy, refuses to adapt to the new "infotainment" format that has become so popular on news shows these days, like CBC, CTV, although being pressured by management to "modernize" the show. I like it the way it is- no opinion panels. No hype, just the information. You are free to form your own opinion. But producer guy is set to retire in a couple of years. Sadly things will probably change after that, and the quality of the content will go down. This is what some people call "progress".2 points

I had to deal with the Chinese back in the 1990's when there was a mad scramble to get into that market...it was called "technical transfer" for manufacturing expertise that they lacked. We we warned and coached to never go off script or engage in "politics". They were like robots, and wanted the same regimented focus from us. Only a fool would have missed that message, but some people like to play with fire. Trump doesn't care what China does on "human rights", just the U.S. trade imbalance, IP theft, dumping, transshipments, etc. China is better at charm school things, but will still reflexively and viciously attack those who attempt to interfere with domestic policies and laws. I don't know what this idiot was thinking when he tried to smuggle 200 kilos of meth...that's just stupid in any country.2 points

Naive? I was aware of this before you were even born.2 points

Oh great...so now America is supposed to be the parental function for nations with less power and influence, like Canada ? American power does not exist as a force for good....it exists as a force for American interests, and that does not include stupid Canadian drug smugglers. The U.S. also executes convicted criminals....just like China.1 point

And now Iran is even more of a third world shit hole. You think that was by accident? My beef is with people who criticize American hegemony and run to america asking for aid when the baddies bully them... like how hypocritical can you get.1 point

I tossed out the Bible years ago. It started after I actually read it. (I have read it completely through 2X). It started when I read this passage: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ordeal_of_the_bitter_water Basically, a man who thought his wife was unfaithful could drag her before the high priest who would force her to drink some "bitter water". If she was unfaithful, horrible physical transformations would happen to her - her thighs would melt away and her belly would swell. If nothing happened, then she was deemed "faithful" and her husband was to immediately take her home and get that woman pregnant! WTF? What if you had a arse for a husband who was dragging you before the high priest on a weekly basis? Why wasn't there a "faithfulness" test for men? It was then that I realized this book was not writtten by any God. It was written by goddamn MEN. That realization allowed me to question other things, too. Spirituality - Yes Organized religion - No, thank you1 point

No surprise Trudeau won't accept these refugee applicants http://www.rcinet.ca/en/2017/09/20/white-south-africans-denied-refugee-status-in-canada/?fbclid=IwAR3i_ySp_kUOWvtSLU-zDD88Z6sqW3B5JD5Rz4vqHSsUt-Ny-s6KLlO3Kw81 point

I guess the promise not to lead the party into the next election was the price May had to pay not to be thrown out immediately.1 point

The difference is hostages, this guy in China is a drug runner. I would not doubt the amount of 200 KGs is enough to get you life in Canada and in the USA.1 point

Those were diplomats, this is a narcotraficante, and not the first offence, he was convicted of selling meth by dial-a-dope in BC, which, I wouldn't care if it was just relatively harmless contraband, but it was meth, which destroys people. So, Karma has come for him now, and he even delivered himself up to it. As much as you can't trust a Chicom kangaroo court, based on his criminal history in Canada, the case the Chinese are asserting seems very plausible, I think he's guilty just as they say.1 point

Nationalism is the last refuge of a scoundrel. More important are people and human development. That’s not a left vs right thing. The important work is done by people from different political stripes and countries working together to improve society. Think of medical technology, the improvement of crop yields, advances in building technology, work conditions, so many things that are helping everyone. Countries are social contracts set up by people to serve their common interests/values. That’s why we shouldn’t worry about other governments except in the case of clear oppression. Even then we have to be careful. That’s why we’re all stick handling around countries like China, but China’s actions are being closely watched everywhere. Businesses and countries are reconsidering whether China can be trusted. China better clean up her act. Other countries can provide cheap imports.1 point

That's nice...Jordan has about 1,500,000. I hope you can understand my skepticism about a nation that withdraws military assets from the region while questioning Trump's decision to do the same.1 point

I’m all for the war of ideas, as long as data about the results of policies is carefully and scientifically analyzed. We need truthful reporting and responsible studies. We’ve seen how even factual data can be chosen selectively and interpreted to support particular political perspectives. That’s why I think there’s a certain inevitability to turning to algorithms. We have to sort out important common human values and ensure that technology serves humanity, not the reverse.1 point

Trump's claims don't matter...he can't be discredited all the time yet be held up as virtuous for continuing to bomb the crap out of Syrians. ISIS has been seriously degraded and displaced from land in Syria and Iraq. Syria is not another ME country that the U.S. wants to occupy short or long term. If it is so important...where is Canada ?1 point

You do realize this is the 21st century? If the state wants to take down its citizens and throw the people into FEMA camps, it will do so spectacularly, Waco style. The notion of a militia opposing a resurgent anti-republican royal army is quaint. The US government’s international power over life and death will be challenged by no militia. The 2nd Amendment now is used by people to protect themselves from other citizens.1 point

I don't care how they do it...hell...let Weng escape house arrest after a pizza delivery driver swap...use some imagination ! Somebody needs to teach Trudeau when the juice is not worth the squeeze.1 point

The Americans cut them out of that option by going over their heads straight to the judiciary and so now CSIS cannot get involved with covert operations because CSIS is for obvious reasons prohibited from conducting operations against their own Crown on behalf of China, because that is actually treason. Not the internet version, the real one.1 point

Canada has an opportunity to "save face" and this extremely stupid drug dealer's life by giving up Weng before this gets more serious. Far better to risk some nasty tweets from Trump. Team Trudeau needs to stop being so naive. Let Weng slip out of the country after cutting a backroom deal with China. Done.1 point

Why should the US stand up for a Canadian in China? When was the last time Canada went to bat for an American convicted of criminal activity in another country. Here's a news flash, China executes drug runners, this aint something new, they've been doing it for years. So this stupid bastard thought it would be a peachy keen idea to go to China and indulge in a little drug smuggling (222Kg of Meth) and got caught. Now he's being painted as some sort of martyr. Sorry, I don't buy it. Not only is he obviously dumb as a stump, he also broke serious laws, laws to which the death penalty can be applied.1 point

I'll do it in one sentence; the Liberals will incite a debt crisis, once they are forced to rein in spending as a result, that will incite the PQ back to power and referendum, the Liberals will cock that up, this time the PQ will win, Confederation will come apart at the seams, and then we will be free for all time of this Liberal Party of Canada dictatorship.1 point

Of all the people I know who support Trudeau there isn’t even one rational, intelligent person who’s capable of honest dialogue. It’s just a collection of naive virtue signallers, casual political observers who just glance at a few headlines, mindless fools who just believe everything they see on CBC, and haters like montgomery who want this country to devolve into a middle-east style shithole. I challenge anyone here to string together 5 paragraphs about Trudeau and how he’s got this country going in a positive direction.1 point
