Just a question, why is it that if I don't like it we have to leave, I thought change is what our country was built on, new ideas, new challenges....why can these ideas not start with reducing or stopping immigration, .....it seems that everything we have been taught or grown use to has to change....Canadians have to change to accommodate others....is there a point where we can say we like a few things kept Canadian....like Hockey, winter sports, hunting and fishing etc the word eh, maple syrup, or stay where your to, and i'll come where your at....why do we always look at each other and say we need to change because it does not accommodate everyone...maybe we could look after Canadians first just once....fix our own house up, then take in other people.....just an idea.....3 points

Why don't Canada and America both get rid of tariffs altogether and let the free market do their thing. Why do we need or allow both of our governments to quibble of tariffs all the time. We are both great neighbors so why are we fighting over this sillyness called tariffs? The only benefit I see for tariffs is that both governments make money from it in the form of taxes from it all and a total waste of time and effort and money from those two. I must admit that I am not all that much up on tariffs but it seems to me that there should be an easier way to stop all this nonsense going on between our two countries over tariffs. Are we friends and neighbors or not? I say let the market place do it's thing. Just saying.1 point

A lot of frustration - but no hate. The illegal border crossers were at first almost exclusively Haitians - because Trump signaled that the "safe haven" program that the US put in place after the 2011 earthquake was to be terminated - Haiti was to be designated as a safe country. Canada had terminated their own "safe haven" program almost two years' prior. Canada should have made that clear at the onset and turned back almost all of them - even if they had to create fast-path legislation to minimize the appeal process for these US economic migrants. It appeared to open-minded people that Trudeau was just using the opportunity to virtue-signal to the world and subtly hammer Trump. And we have been paying a heavy price.1 point

The feds have always done their best to disguise just how much immigration and refugees cost us with bland, unsupported statements of how great it all is for our economy.1 point

The sooner we have an election the better, if only for the Conservative Party to remove Scheer as leader. Scheer is in the wrong party. He should cross over to the Liberals where he truly belongs. End result, Trudeau will win the next election hands down regardless of the trade issue.1 point

They'll want to finish their polling first to see how much Trump has driven up Trudeau's popularity.1 point

I agree that Canada alone is a relatively small piece of U.S. GDP, but the collective value of all countries against which Trump has imposed tariffs is significant. Canada is best positioned working collectively. The EU and other major trading partners should stick to their countermeasures. We can expand trade with each other, freeze out the U.S., and develop a healthier trade balance that makes Canada less dependent on the U.S.. This is an opportunity, especially in terms of energy. Canada should nationalize as much of the oil sands as possible in the fashion of Norway. The EU should also be firm with its latest populist xenophobe leader, Italy's Guiseppe Conte. The same dark forces that hatched in Eastern Europe are at play in Italy. If opposition is silent, more such characters will feel empowered.1 point

When the Conservatives were in power - Harper and his boys were always the "mean spirited" bunch. Conservatives are always depicted that way. They took those lumps from the Left all through their 10 years. No sense trying to defend their policies but they certainly didn't allow for uncontrolled "refugees" flooding across the border - or taking in 25,000 Syrians in such a short time without the right support. No - it's a Liberal problem right now - largely created by Trudeau. Bad decisions, bad execution.1 point

Wow, the Liberal Muslim MPs are complaining about missing El Eid because of the extended debate on carbon taxes yet the Liberals picked the date which is so obviously a manipulated and cynical move it's cringe worthy. The Liberals set the date of the debate on carbon taxes, not the opposition, then they refused to answer any questions. This was/is followed by a coordinated Twitter storm, accusing the Conservatives of racism. Pretty darned shameless...1 point

Trump didn't start those war he came into office dealing with these already establish issue. Attack his character all you like. Our liberal news media does it all the time. If lying as a politician is a crime then i guess we should prosecute every politician eh?1 point

It appears sunset clauses are included in a number of trade agreements in other countries. http://business.financialpost.com/opinion/lawrence-solomon-trudeau-starts-a-trade-war-for-political-points-were-the-casualties The remainder of this article is quite instructive. Trudeau is no Captain Canada.1 point

In general, I agree with you. However, immigration and refugee policy are inextricably linked in this country, not the least of which by a government that seems wedded to a program of extreme social engineering. For most of us, the biggest impacts are practical, including, for instance, the financial (i.e. taxation) costs entailed, higher housing costs and constrained access to vital services like health care. I believe the Fraser Institute has concluded that net social program costs (i.e. public benefits costs minus taxes paid) for the most recent generation of newcomers amount to over 30 billion dollars annually. This is roughly 60% of the amount being paid to support the old age security program, yet over the past couple decades we've been fed the rationale that large-scale immigration (including refugee intake) is necessary to fund an aging population. How's this working out for us? Is the government engaging in rational analysis on this issue? I believe an Australian government study concluded that from the perspective of demographics (an argument often raised in support of Canadian policies), large scale immigration is essentially a Ponzi scheme, whereby ever increasing numbers are required to have any significant demographic impact given that by the end of the second generation immigrants often reflect a demographic profile and fertility trends typical of the general population. I believe the current refugee debacle serves the government's agenda in that it is part of a broader policy approach.1 point

Well first we need to Revoke Obama's Peace prize, and than give it to Trump. No politician deserves a peace prize just for talking. What did Obama do, but destroy Libya, and see the destruction of Syria under his watch. Contribute to hundreds of innocent drone Strikes in Pakistan and Yemen. While Obama partied with Jay Z, Trump just helped stop World War 3.1 point

Indeed...as Justin Trudeau is far more interested in his feminist agenda, carbon taxes, climate change, etc., etc. etc....not tariff and non-tariff barriers to trade. Ontario turfed Kathleen Wynne and her "progressive" party last week...Trudeau is next (2019).1 point

A lot of you clearly have not gone through any legal action and/or a divorce which is the closest form of legal action that many of us have gone through. An allegation is just that - words that have not been proven in a court of law. I can say a bunch of crap about you but it doesn't mean anything until a court has agreed to it. Relax.1 point

Let me just say again.... Doug Ford had stood by his brother even during the crack scandal (even to the detriment of his own reputation) - I can't believe he'll be screwing up Rob's children. More like he's trying to protect their interest (if their mother indeed has drug addiction issues).1 point

My understanding is Doug looks after robs family very generously and robs wife has known addictions, that she would probably blow all the money in a very quick time. He is protecting her from herself. That has already been out in the media.1 point

Er... yeah, that's the nature of war. I'm not pretending Canada will come out of this unscathed. If it was just us and them, the US would have the upper hand. But this war is the US vs everyone. The US is fighting a multifront war. With that, our countries combined can maje the US really feel the pinch. Canada will hurt too. That's inevitable now.1 point

It's not just Canada though. The EU and Mexico have been hit too. Many Americans visit the EU and Mexico each year. Sure Trump could, retaliate, but only bilaterally, meaning Canadians could still visit Mexico and the EU visa-free, but not Americans. Remember, this is Trump against everybody. We can go back to friendly relations once Trump is out of office. We're now in a trade war.1 point

"Exaggeration for emphasis" The point - which you conveniently dodged, as usual - is that you are the one foaming at the mouth about homosexuals most often. As a side point, I've noticed for many years now that the ones who foam at the mouth consistently about homosexuals often are the ones who are closet homosexuals and end up in the news for getting caught in....errr.....compromising positions. So let me ask you, Betsy - are you gay? Are you sure? "Methinks the lady doth protest too much."0 points
