Well it seem that the latest study would agree with you. There has been a rather substantial body of research which is already proven that this is true. There's really no doubt, democrats and people on the left in general have substantially poor mental health. And as has been noticed it's starting to become part of the political identity. People with poor mental health tend to identify with others on the left with poor mental health But the question that has never really been addressed is why. We know it's true but we don't know why it's true. Do left-wing ideals make people mentally ill over time or does being mentally ill attract them to liberal ideas in the first place? This is the kind of question that remained unanswered The study actually takes a crack at why and I find that really interesting. It actually complements other research that's been done that's not specific to this issue but looks at why people have poor mental health in many cases If you obsess all day on your hatred for another group and your anger on behalf of another group then that tends to poison your soul. This is true outside of politics. Obsessing on negative outcomes and negative circumstances has a very serious effect on your mental health. So it's interesting to see that the research is suggesting that conservatives who have a much more positive self-image and spend far less time worrying about other people and their problems and are more grounded in a common set of moral beliefs and a sense of history are far more resilient to mental health issues
