https://bankofcanadaodds.com/insight/canada-inflation-looks-stable-at-2-2-until-you-check-grocery-prices/

However, while the headline number appears stable, the underlying mix of inflation continues to shift in ways that matter for households and monetary policy alike.

A breakdown of key CPI components highlights why inflation still feels elevated for many Canadians despite the stable headline reading.

Rent inflation remained elevated at 4.7% year over year, while mortgage interest costs rose 2.3%, reflecting the lagged impact of higher interest rates earlier in the tightening cycle.

Food-related inflation remained a major pressure point. Grocery prices increased 4.7%, matching rent as one of the fastest-rising household expenses, while restaurant prices rose 3.3%, underscoring continued cost pressures across both at-home and away-from-home food spending.

Auto-related costs also stayed elevated, with auto insurance prices up 6.1% year over year, adding to affordability challenges for households.

REAL inflation under the liberals has not gone down for the average person. For the majority of people the top three expenses they have are food, rent and auto/insurance.  That's what people spend most of their money on for the most part.

Those TEND to be non discretionary things. You CAN move to a cheaper place if you can find one but that's not really practical. And most of the time it's more money to move not less. you have to have car insurance and buy gas, there's not much you can do there. And while you can pick cheaper groceries, in the end you need to buy food.

And those are closer to the 5 percent inflation mark.  Which is why everyone's feeling so pressured financially.

This is what the libs have brought us to.

Nope, never said it did...just putting things in perspective and to let folks see it is not a"Woe is me, I am Canadian and cannot afford to eat"  syndrome and it is not all the liberal party fault LOL

Considering we import most of our food... we pay what it costs.

The thing to take away is the inflation is a world wide issue as is cost of living. Food prices are very high (in comparison to the past) in the entire world so, it is what it is...everywhere.

Auto insurance.. how about property insurance? Mine went up 40% this year thanks to climate change and the fear of wildfires...even here in the wettest part of Canada.

I suspect climate change has more to do with food inflation than you feel like acknowledging unless it's to blame lefties for that too.

Huh.

Mine went up about the same percentage but it was because of huge increases in break-ins, crime, thefts and junkies lighting everyone's garages and sheds on fire.

Hmmm, I can still count the times on one hand I've locked my doors in 50 years.

Maybe you should move.

Tes but if you're a true WHINER you'll pretend that Americans are not complaining about the same rising price of groceries and that most of ours come from there.

Why those Cdn grown pineapples have gone up 100%

Only Canadian country :)

The liberals have out of control inflation which they had claimed was under control. And they have refused to do anything about it.

Same with rent. What's your excuse there? Nobody anywhere in the world is experiencing the kind of rental increases we are.

And car costs and insurance? Yeah thought so.

The liberals are not addressing any of these problems and they are going to get worse and people will suffer. In the meantime they are sending hundreds of millions if not billions to other countries to make sure that rice farming in Vietnam has gender equity

Mark Carney said Canadians can judge him grocery prices.  https://torontosun.com/opinion/columnists/lilley-carney-not-meeting-his-own-measure-as-food-inflation-climbs-again

Back in May, asked by a reporter about how Canadians could hold him accountable, Carney cited their trip to the grocery store.

“Canadians will hold us to account by their experience at the grocery store, when they are paying their electricity bill, when they or their children are looking for a place to live,” Carney said.

No, your insurance went up due an increase in crime.  For example auto thefts have skyrocketed, and there’s millions more cars on the road thanks to the Liberals irresponsible immigration policy.  If you have an insurance company they’re raising your rates because of climate change you’re a complete rube, and should be looking for a new insurance provider.

Carney said he should be judged by the price of groceries.  By that standard he’s an abject failure and should resign.
