The inspiration for this topic was the tremendous fuss kicked up by the media, mostly over a conservative whiner leaving the party to join the Liberals when he didn't get re-elected as deputy speaker. But we never see such frenzy when the Liberals lose members.

NP View: The media's double standard on Pierre Poilievre | National Post

Is the media attention perhaps because of the leader and deputy leader and former leaders exclaiming poaching, bribery and otherwise disreputable reasons for the member to cross the floor? I think the conservatives themselves are casing the media frenzy by feeding it.

When the liberals lost a member, it was it, what is done is done.

Actually the studies that consider all aspects of buying and operating a vehicle show that EVs are cheaper.

No they don't.

First off most of the studies that have been done including the most recent include government rebates on a number of the vehicles. So now that those rebate programs have ended those vehicle prices shoot up by 5 or $6,000 and that changes the results entirely

Secondly they tend to only go out for 5 years. So they don't include replacing the batteries. The warranty. Is usually for 8 years or 100,000 km. So sometime after that you're going to have to replace the battery and suddenly you have a bill worth tens of thousands of dollars that isn't factored in.

I have two trucks on my property that I've owned for years that are both older than 20 years. Both of them have engines that still run great and would drive around the city no problem, both are in pretty good condition one slightly better than the other.

Both of them if they were EVS would have had to have their batteries replaced probably to the tune of about 40,000 to $50,000.

Ontario man quoted $50,000 to replace an EV battery | Driving

There are a large number of stories like this

The studies are often done by people who are advocates for EBS and therefore they leave out calculations like that. So what the studies actually show is as long as there's government subsidies and as long as you only look at a very strict Length of time, EVS may be slightly cheaper but the reality is as near as we can tell they're actually more expensive when you do an Apples to Apples comparison over the life of a vehicle

Why is there  no leadership contends?? It seems PP is not as favourable as he once was.

Has he put the fear of god into conservative members like Trump has to republicans?

Literally everything you say is wrong.

You say he can't win.

You're almost frantic and panicked about it, desperate and begging us to believe he can't win

That probably means he's going to win :)

If Mr. Poilievre will listen to others and take advice, he might just pull it off. Regardless, the proof will be in Mr. CanFox's and my conflicting predictions (wager) in, or before, 2030. Nothing any of us on this forum can say, will have any impact on the question.

Poilievre, period.

It's disrespectful for anyone to challenge him.

CBC: "If you choose a Trudeau-clone to run the Conservative Party then we will tell our cultists to vote for him."

No thanks.

CBC, eyeball, herbie and all the other cultists can F right off. We can either elect Poilievre or let the country continue to go to hell based on the CBC's cultist gospel, I couldn't care less anymore. We really don't deserve any better if it comes down to that.

for forever liberals have been saying "you know i'd totally be a conservative if Mike Chong were the leader" :)

Interrupted only briefly for "i'd consider it if jean charest was' during the leadership :)

"honest, we just really want to see you guys win so we're giving you really good advice....  "

Left4rds are such pathetic, stupid little clowns, it's really sad that they outnumber intelligent Canadians by enough to carry the vote.

These guys can't debate facts on any topics here, all they can do is click the down-arrow and tell a few lies.

Just disgusting.

HA HA HA.  PP Le Pew LOSES again HA HA HA.     Even 2 of his people refused to vote HA HA HA

Prime Minister Mark Carney’s minority Liberal government has survived a major confidence test after MPs approved the federal budget in a 170–168 vote. The tight outcome hinged on a last-minute decision by Green Party Leader Elizabeth May, who voted yes after Carney publicly reaffirmed Canada’s commitment to meeting the Paris climate targets. Despite her support, the Liberals still required at least one opposition vote or a combination of abstentions to avoid defeat, as they hold only 169 voting MPs. Several NDP MPs voted against the budget, while others abstained, creating just enough space for the government to secure passage and avoid triggering another national election — which would have been Canada’s second in 2025.
Carney’s first budget includes billions in new spending aimed at stabilizing the economy amid a trade war, alongside billions in public-service cuts intended to reduce the deficit. The result preserves government stability, at least for now.
