We don’t have the type of king that No Kings refers to, something closer to this guy:

...We have a constitutional monarchy in which the King has a ceremonial role. Also note that we didn’t make the elementary and potentially dangerous mistake of combining head of state with head of government.

No Kings has a very American, historical context, neither ceremonial or sub-Saharan African.  The irony in all this is that any modern American president has far more applied and potential power via the Executive Branch than any king.

I don't think that it was necessarily the power of a king that Americans rebelled against. What they were angry about as far as I can tell from the documents is that the power was something they had no say in and did not represent their interests. They were upset about the idea of taxation without representation. Not the idea of taxation.

Well I guess they're largely fine with an American king that's been elected or someone that has equivalent or greater power provided their elected

Agreed...this is the historical context.   Since the Revolution, American presidents have slowly gained more and more unchecked power (Executive Branch), if only because of the huge scope of the job and the reluctance of Congress to reign things in.   Congress tends to be more reactive while real world domestic and foreign policy events require power immediacy in many instances.

Wrong! They are not fine with it. It's their constitution that prohibits kings. Kings can't be voted out. (So kings are as un-American as you can get) It's the fact that Trump and his supporters are talking about subverting the constitution that engendered the 'No Kings' protests.

It doesn't really. I'm not sure you know what 'kings' were like. To be honest, for the most part in history kings had less control over their land than a leader in the democratic systems we see or even the socialist ones.

It does however solidify some of the rights of the individual and requires a democratic process in appointing the leader.

That is a major step up but it doesn't actually eliminate the idea of a head leader. The founding fathers DID actually consider that and almost went with a council of three presidents instead of one for that very reason but in the end decided to go with what they've got now.

OUR system tends to move us further away from a king like figure being in power, which is hilarious considering we actually have a king :)

Sure they can. Kings were voted out, overthrow, ursurped etc all the time.

There are very few periods in history where a king's power was absolute.

The democratic process built into the system solidifies and formalizes the ability of the people to choose their leader and extends that power to all the people instead of just the nobility and land owners, which is great, but it doesn't change the fact there's still a leader. ANd over the years more and more presidents have stolen more and more power away from the  congress and put it in the oval office and they did so legally.

U Huh...keep trying.

Wasting time with you has become boring. I retort only because it is fun watching you battle with me in you head.

As I said once before, you or your ilk's opinion of me is absolutely immaterial. I could not, in any way , care what you think of me....and I keep trolling you fools to prove it as you keep coming back for more and more.

It seems to me that puberty is a age you have yet to achieve as you keep up your childlike tantrums over and over .... and will again because little me in your head makes you do it LOL

Yes, you replied to one of my posts, i'm replying back to you.  That's how these boards work :)  I'm sure in the real world you're quite used to having the people around you just ignore you so maybe you thought it would be the same here?

Do you have something useful to add to the conversation or are you just going back to your usual childish behavior?
