PPC Candidate's Bank Account Frozen

Just hearing about this today. PPC Candidate Meghan Murphy says her bank account was frozen by the Canadian gov't.

My candidacy was confirmed officially on Tuesday. That same day, I tried to access my bank account and could not. I contacted my bank, Vancity, and was informed the account had been frozen as per direction from the government. I had accessed my account just two days prior, so the timing was clear. I had not been informed of this freezing by anyone — not the bank, not the government. No one attempted to contact me. I was completely blindsided.

When I contacted my bank they refused to give me any information beyond the fact they were following government orders, and they gave me a number and name to contact.

On the face of it that's pretty bad, but there are a lot of reasons why that could happen that have nothing to do with politics. Provincial governments at least freeze people's bank accounts literally every day usually for non-payment of provincial taxes in one form or another such as property tax.

Without knowing more details about why the bank account was frozen, which level of government froze it, etc it's impossible to say whether or not this is something worth being outraged over. It may very well be but we can't say from the facts presented here

So? What does that have to do with the topic at hand. She deserves it? CdnFox provided a much better counter-response.

Yeah, I understand that. That's why I posted 'she says'. I know there are a lot of facts missing, but it's certainly a story worth paying attention to.

For sure. It's true that commonality does not mean causality but the timing is slightly suspicious and usually governments are extremely cautious about freezing political bank accounts for obvious reasons. Hopefully more will come out soon

About 10 tears back my brother and I worked for a guy who refused to pay us. We went to the prov. labour board, and after investigating they froze his account and took out enough to pay us plus some extra for our troubles.

Lots of possible reasons for the govt. to do this.

How do you know what the gov't would do to her? 

When the US border opened up I went down there, no problem at all, and when I went to come back across they said I needed a covid test. But I couldn't go back down and get one, because that was somehow not allowed, so they gave me a box of covid tests and said I was quarantined for 2 weeks. Not only that, if I broke quarantine I could be fined a ridiculous amount of money, and if I gave someone covid and they died i could get a $250k or $750K fine. 

It was total BS what our gov't did during covid. If you trusted them, you're a fool.

So thats is all it takes to have your bank account frozen.....thats a pretty low bar....you guys on the left are really not all there up stairs are you....i guess we don't have to abide by our constitution or our rights like freedom of speech...what ever happen to free form interference during elections...

The 'people on the left' are intelligent enough to read what is stated, note that no who or why was given, and know that the Court and the CRA can freeze anyone's account and non-filing or non-payment of income tax is the #1 reason why.
Ruling out that being female she is unlikely to be in arrears for child support.

But she's filed as a candidate and is welcome to bleed every vote from the Tories that she will. Just as the Christian Heritage is welcome to do here.

She's a PPC candidate in an NDP riding and she's going to get like 1-2% of the vote, almost all of which would come at the CPC's expense. 

What's more likely:

A)  The government that will only be helped by her siphoning votes away from their main competitors froze her accounts for "political reasons"

or

2)  The candidate from the quack party is actually a quack.  

HMMMmmmmm.....

I’m still trying to determine who the best candidate is in my riding.  So, yes….  I’m unaligned even if I think PP is unelectable and Carney is too conservative.
