Army Guy Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 Trump is slashing through red tape by the truck load, slashing DEI practices, LGBTQ polices ,Climate change initiatives, concentrating on getting their resources to market slashing rad tape holding these new programs back...Are we also going to look at what is being done and copy many of these things...just to keep up....Right now we can't get anything done in short time periods, unless your the RCMP and buying a few helicopters that we can do....but anything else is going to take decades to get pushed through..... Maybe this trump administration is going to benefit Canada in ways we can't imagine right now... Quote We, the willing, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have now done so much for so long with so little, we are now capable of doing anything with nothing.
paradox34 Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 Confused. How is Canada competitive now? We have the lowest GDP in the G7. An unemployment rate of 10%, the highest in the G7 and the highest per capita debt in the G7. Our economy is resource heavy, wholly dependent on commodity price fluctuations. We don't produce anything. We assemble and warehouse. What little we did produce was destroyed by free trade. Politicians still haven't grasped that free trade is a zero sum game only benefitting the weaker economy while simultaneously weakening the stronger. Isn't that what the WEF wants? "You will own nothing and be happy". Still wondering why there is a resurgence of nationalism in Europe and America? 1 Quote

Trudeau told you :" Buy Canadian!" except he failed to realize that besides wine and apples there are very few things left where we have a choice because Canada does not produce much. It is a warehouse of raw materials and nothing else, thanks to Trudeau and his predecessors. First of all, it was a mistake to help the States with the fires. I would have told them that they should sell Alaska to Canada in exchange for water for their taps and fire hydrants. Electricity, timber, gas or oil - same thing, cut them off. Military missions - no more support. And please lets build a wall along the south border so those illegal aliens that face deportation don't come to us. The US election results clearly show that our southern neighbors are m-o-rons that we cannot save from themselves. First off, because they are such, their presidential candidates are what they are. Best option - a convict, women groper, tax evader , criminal with a short shelf life, who also happens not to believe in climate change while his country is in flames or pummeled by hurricanes and who does not support international efforts of any kind be it healthcare or anything else. And because his electoral base mostly consists of apes like him, he gets elected. Who would have thought otherwise. Let them burn. At one point they will all be scrambling to reach Greenland or Mars. eyeball Posted January 24 Report Posted January 24 How is canada going to remain competitive in trumps new world... It seems the offer is to become the 51st State. He'll probably ask for half. Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

Yes but Thats what the left wants, i mean they have voted for these guys 3 times in a row....I keep saying this but this is how Canadians want their country....they want handouts, social programs, they don't have a sense of patriotism, the hate our military or any thing associated with it, they don't care our nation is a haven for terrorist and criminals, we bring in immigrants from countries that do not share any of our values, or culture, we allow terrorist supporter to terrorize canadian minority groups, the list goes on and on.... we as a nation are so fractured we can't not even talk to each other in a civil tone.... I ask myself many times is it even worth the effort to save this nation, the way the people are today... the nation has no place in their bubbles, they don't care about anyone but themselves....or their little worlds....maybe it is time to see what is next whatever that is.... 1 hour ago, cougar said: Trudeau told you :" Buy Canadian!" except he failed to realize that besides wine and apples there are very few things left where we have a choice because Canada does not produce much. I disagree. Trump is a showman; a buffoon. He is competitive. He wants to win. The American Left thinks that he insists on loyalty. They are wrong. Trump wants to win - and he thinks that if he wins, America wins. Quote
August1991 Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Trump is transactional, he understands the idea of positive-sum thinking. But nevertheless, given his age, he's a zero-sum thinker. ==== Putin is not a zero-sum thinker. Quote
I am Groot Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 Perhaps an appropriate editorial from the G&W. It's time for Canada to Grow up. It may seem odd to say that Canada, the world’s fourth oldest continuous democracy, needs to start behaving like a grownup, but that is precisely the moment in which the country finds itself. For too long, when it comes to the two areas of statehood that most require a firm adult hand – national defence and the economy – Canada’s federal and provincial governments have displayed the self-indulgent complacency of a teenager who tries to get away with doing the bare minimum. This lack of maturity is the result of an over-reliance on the United States for military protection and as a built-in source of export revenues. It has been so easy to do well enough that doing better hasn’t been deemed worth the effort required to get up off the basement couch. https://archive.is/9c6sU 1 Quote
I am Groot Posted January 25 Report Posted January 25 People are appalled that Trump would consider slapping a 25% tariff on Canadian imports. Guess who also puts taxes/tariffs on imports from Canada? Why, it's Quebec! That's right. The average taxes on interprovincial movement of goods in Canada amounts to 21%. Our GDP would bump 4-7% if we eliminated those taxes and trade barriers and had free trade among the provinces. But provincial governments - especially Quebec - won't hear of it. The elimination of those barriers would completely offset any damage to the economy of Trump's tariffs but almost no one is even talking about them except as a throwaway line. 1 Quote

Seriously? The US was there for Canada when it was overthrowing other people's governments and propping up dictators for decades around the planet? And now we're expected to pay the bills for all this munificence? Fu ck Trump, America and the buttsniffs sitting around the GM Editorial Board. 1 Quote A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.
