They probably don't.  Chris Murphey is a democrat. So - the trick is to go public and CLAIM you've got a deal finalized, especially when you're close but there's sticking points.  Then if talks collapse you can blame the Republicans.  "DANG it - Sorry everyone we were so close but they soured it at the last minute! Darn!"  It might be that there was no deal and they couldnt' talk around the sticking points but this puts pressure on the republicans to cave

It's a bit of an old trick and it's old because it works :)

ANd of course cnn runs with it and basically says if the deal falls apart it's trump's fault even tho it was an amazingly awesome super perfect very good no bad excellent deal that EVERY REPUBLICAN EVERYWHERE had agreed to.... before trump! :)

Meh. The games are the same no matter which side is doing it.

Lack of mature centrist voices in a society will lead to no good...

i take issue with the claim that drowning children is a threat. its not. it just sucks. and i reject that its an extreme view.

is this the new story now? the senate GOP leadership was heralding a big win border package... but now that was never the case? geesh, the mental loops that MAGA fans need to jump through.

Oh dear, we better let 40 million illegal aliens in because that will help a mother and kids drowning in the river while trying to break US Immigration Law...

no, they just needed to pick them up in the boat and then deliver them back to the Mexican side of the shore. is that illegal? maybe it is... but Texas doesn't care about immigration law at the moment.

you know who you are if any children drowning is not of concern to you. i won't tell you. you live with it yourself.

not likely

because if Washington ever attacked a state, particularly Texas

that would immediately incite a Second War Between the States

at which point the Federal force would fracture

there would be mutiny unto Confederacy once again, on the spot

yeah, i doubt it. 46.48% of Texans voted for Biden in 2020.

No, democrats failed to notify law breakers that they need to stay out of the f*cking river.

This STARTS with left-wing bullshit and it ENDS with Left-wing bullshit.

Texas is not to be blamed for protecting its borders. The Biden Administration IS to be blamed for rolling out the red carpet.

so you're saying that these people don't already know that they shouldn't be crossing there? are you serious?

no it starts with people who are willing to decide issues like normal people do everyday at work and in the home and ends with cult driven extremists yelling the loudest. both on the "right" and the "left", whatever those terms mean... because each seem to be able to spin on a dime.

1. You're probably right. That mom is to blame for putting her kids in danger.

2. No, it starts with citizens who respect and follow rule of law. Everyone else needs to go pound sand.

1. ok, the mom is to blame. and Jesus would also not have reached out a hand and pulled those screaming children to safety from a boat that was meters away? what were the children guilty of in gods eyes?

2. its time to get serious and start citing what laws are not being followed here. what laws are those? do you know exactly? because there aren't any laws that are not being followed. the senate GOP says they can change that now... but Trump doesn't want any change until he is in office.

1. They're not guilty. They're probably up in Heaven breathing a sigh of relief. Mom, on the other hand, might have some explaining to do. She was probably trying to provide a better life for her kids, however, so my guess is that she'll still be OK, even though she ignored US immigration law.

2. Here:

If you're not in court pleading your case, then you need to be on the OTHER side of the border.

i agree. but some large proportion of Texans don't feel threatened apparently.

They sure as hell will if it comes to actual physcial violence. I guarantee that will polerize them real quick. And there are many other states who'd feel that way. They start shooting up or even arresting texans and biden just lost the election.

These rednecks love to prance around with their penis-replacement guns, but if they were ever fired on, they'd turn tail and run, just like they did on January 6.

civil wars have nothing to do with polling

January 6 wasn't an armed insurrection, since none of the rioters were armed

an example of armed insurrection would be the Provisional Irish Republican Army in Ulster

55% of the population was Loyalist Protestants

yet the Fenians were able to wage a 30 year war against the British Crown

You still have the problem that if you have 500 border guards at a point on the border and 10,000 people determined to cross the border, the BP won't be able to prevent them. As soon as they are that one millimetre into Texas, if they request asylum or refugee status, they are legally entitled to an admissibility hearing. There may be hundreds of others who just charge across with the refugees and overwhelm the border officials. You may be able to round some of them up but then you have to give them a hearing and if they are deported, there is nothing to prevent them from crossing again. They will hide on the thousands of transport trucks crossing legally. The migration of people north is only going to get worse. It is an insoluble problem , regardless of who is Governor or POTUS.

Exactly. But the Trumpettes don't see it that way, some of Trumps most ardent supporters are actually suggesting that Texas leave the Union and shoot to kill anyone crossing its southern border. This puts her at odds with other Texas conservative leaders who prefer a bipartisan agreement instead as long as the trumpettes don't have to pay for it, yet we expect ALL other countries in the world to pay for maintaining their borders, particularly any they have with the U. S. A.

I always appreciate when you take the time to show the depth of your ignorance  :)

And sure - texans are well known for being cowards who are afraid to fight  /s

Either way - first bullet means biden is done and trump is president.

I don't think you understand how elections work.

This situation could very quickly lose him the election and is already putting a crapload of pressure on him.

LOL - 'MURICA!!!!! EFF YEAH!!!! LOLOL

That's nice kiddo but 1 billionth of a milimeter beyond that it texas, and texas belongs to ... wait for it... .try to guess if you can..... TEXAS!!!!  (you got it wrong didn't you :) )

And texas can say what happens in texas. And if they say that what happens is large shipping containers and barbed wire then that's something they can do.

Which is what is causing the conflict.  Because Texas belongs to Texas!!!!! MURICA!!!!!

I just told you, Texas GAVE UP IT'S Independence and its Sovereign claims in 1846. The current Governor may not.like it but he is a seneschal.only of those lands, not the POTUS.

The situation seems to be getting more and more complicated

BREAKING ⚡ 🇺🇸U.S. Army sends tanks to Texas

U S. Army sends tanks to Texas for "military exercises". The US Army has reportedly moved some of its armored units to Texas to participate in exercises that will take place this week. Meanwhile, States bordering Texas are sending additional National Guard troops to the region. Biden also introduced a type of "sanctions" against Texas and cut off their LNG gas, justifying this as part of the "fight against global warming". The situation is still tense and Biden is doing everything to reopen the border and bring in the millions of immigrants waiting at the border.

Just fyi, the Green Beret leading them.is a LT Colonel. A respectable frank if its someone who was in ground combat, less so if he just flew above it, even.less if he was in a non combat position. It Colonel Chambers was a Flight Surgeon ..i.e. He flew with an air combat squadron , but notice most of the time , A flight surgeon spends mist of his time in hospitals.

President Biden is waiting on the Republicans to give him the legislation to shut the border down. The GOP is refusing to close the border on President Trump's orders.

The Biden administration has given Texas until the end of Wednesday to stop blocking the US Border Patrol’s access to 2.5 miles along the US-Mexico border

Isn't that odd.

US cities routinely block ICE agents from doing their job and I don't recall seeing any mention of Biden issuing a cease and desist date.

I wonder how far he wants to foray into dictatorship in Texas.

That's not what the law says. The constitution does enshrine state rights as we as if the constitution doesn't address a thing it is generally a state right. It's the United STATES of america, not the State of america :)   if you thought that the states had given up all their rights you were sadly mistaken,

This is a hell of a game of chicken to play - Biden better be careful. He has many more paths to defeat than the governer does here.
