Johnson: Now is not ‘the time for comprehensive immigration reform’

unbelievable the continuing GOP clown show in the house. the same guy kept repeating that the situation at the border is a national emergency!

this seems to be the usual... where the GOP house complain about stuff and then get freaked out when that issue threatens to go away because people are actually willing to negotiate and come up with a solution that is amicable to everyone. lets face it, anything bipartisan is unacceptable to MAGA. its a deal with the devil. except that the devil are just your neighbours.

the senate GOP seem to still know what they are supposed to do for the American population.

what really concerns me is that the Ukraine thing... seems to me that Trump has projected that he doesn't want to stand in Putins way and that the MAGA GOP house are falling in line. and they are tying all of this to something that they've decided doesn't need to be worked on at them moment.

That doesn't really seem to be accurate.  You can think the current laws should be enforced without thinking that they should be changed, you're trying to connect two seperate things. There is nothing contradictory about saying close the border AND saying we don't want new laws to let people in.

Yeah - i'd say Zelensky (can't spell his name) has till november next year to get as much land back as he can. After that he can't count on much more coming from the states.

There are two types of people in this world: Those who can extrapolate from incomplete data

For F’s sake, “it’s not time for immigration reform” is what the man who said no bills pass until he gets immigration reform.

The Republican strategy is to cause an immigration crisis which they can blame on Biden. And all they do is refuse to pass any immigration legislation ever, claiming that whatever it is isn’t extreme enough.  So they let the crisis get worse, claiming “only we can fix this problem we created!”

The tying is a lie and it will be known, examined and talked about in generations. Every little name that put their little finger to it will be known in the infamy list. Yes you are lying and yes, you know it even now.

If it's you or them, the truth is equidistant

HAHAHAHAHAHA This is the funniest take I have heard all day. The Republicans caused it? Who are the politicians who created "sanctuary" cities and states and working on giving amnesty for millions of illegals? The politicians who conveniently forget to put the illegal in front of immigrant in order to smear their political opponents?

You want some reform, here it is.

1. Asylum claims are only allowed if they attempted to claim asylum in the countries they crossed to get to the US first. With exceptions made with Congressional approval.

2. If you enter the country illegally, you get NO social services. If you go to the emergency room you are stabilized and then deported back to your home country?

We don't exist to take care of the worlds poor, we have our own poor and we can't even afford to take care of them, let alone millions of people flooding in from other countries.

I am not saying Republicans don't share some blame for this issue but Democrats are the ones that continue to do/propose things that essentially invites people to illegally come here.

It's simple, comzilla; Ukraine has had enough help, and it's time to take those abusers off the table.

The only immigration reform that is acceptable is the immediate removal of all illegal aliens and much tighter security on the borders. We know most of you democrats would fill your diapers over a proposal like this, but I think some Republicans would be onboard if they could just get the neocons out of the way.

The foreigner coddling has got to go. There's simply too much suffering within our own citizenry to justify that bullshit.

Are the Republicans going to pass a f-ing law or not? They talk talk talk and there’s no action.

I’ve had enough of the immigrants too.  It’s ridiculous.  We have homeless and drug addicts we can’t afford to treat and we can’t add another million destitute people to the mix.

This surprises me. There are challenges with immigration--legal or illegal--but it's well researched that immigrants of either variety end up being a net positive on the economy. Most are hard working people just trying to build a better life. I like being able to afford groundskeeping and a cleaning service. The laborers have a better life than they could in their countries of origin, and they bust their asses working so that their children can become doctors and architects and poets--and so that their grandchildren or great grandchildren can become lazy, entitled Americans lol.  It's a win-win-win.

For the record, I have no idea how or when those people I (fractionally) employ came to the US, but they have licensed businesses and I'm happy with the rates and service.

So you want a new slave class? You all love talking out of both sides of your mouths don't you. You demand a "Living" wage but are fine with illegals coming in and cleaning your houses and doing your landscaping for 7 bucks an hour.

Leftist slavers cherish cheap labor and who better to service them than illegal immigrants?

Johnson says he speaks ‘pretty frequently’ with Trump about border deal

well, we know where all of this is coming from now. how the hell is Trump ruling the GOP from his unelected position in making decisions in the US governement?

the really scary thing is Ukraine. how the hell does anyone explain Trumps love for Putin? its inexplicable. HE WILL NOT CRITICIZE PUTIN. he has already signalled that he wants to completely bail on Ukraine. and the GOP are dragging on this and i fear will do so until the election.

Johnson gets squeezed by Biden, Senate GOP on Ukraine, border

Johnson was just pulled in and given the brief on Ukraine. i'm sure he was told that 10s of millions of refugees would flood into Europe. that mass executions would happen. that food prices would go through the roof and Africa would starve. that the stock market would crash. and that the largest guerrilla war in the worlds history would rage that would embolden Putin to invade border areas of Europe.

but no, Trump loves Putin. so MAGA will fall in line and Putin, Jinping and Jong Un will be come the most powerful world players.

They aren't slaves, ya kook. They are eager, hungry entrepreneurs building businesses and futures.

And the laborers (which include a lot of friends and family, in my cases) certainly make more than $7 an hour in these parts. I won't pretend to know their full operational overhead or how they pay their employees but, for back-of-napkin math... 4 cleaners come for 2 hours at a rate of $200. That's revenue of about $25 an hour per employee. If we conservatively estimate payroll taxes at 20% (split roughly evenly) 10% payroll tax for the employer leaves them with about $22.50 per hour for employee wages. The business is mostly labor, but there are some supplies and equipment. I expect the employees are making above the $16 an hour minimum wage for this area.

They work hard and give me 8 hours of frenetic cleaning for a lot fewer dollars than I'd bill myself. And they make a lot more money and have a better standard of living--and a much better future for their children--than they would in the places they left of fled. Works out well for everyone--except the Americans who don't want compete in the marketplace for unskilled or low-skilled labor.

Keep them blinders on, they hire illegals for their cheapness and the fact they can screw them over whenever they want. You can hire legal people for 16 dollars an hour, why risk hiring illegal labor?

I don't think you understand. Both of these businesses are run by immigrants. Again, I don't know- or particularly care- whether they came to the US through one channel or another. All I care is that they abide by the laws of this state as licensed business operators. I care that they are hard-working, productive, contributing  members of this society.

And again, I don't think you understand labor laws. Undocumented workers are STILL protected by all the same labor laws, including minimum wage, overtime, health and safety, etc. The only real difference is that if they're using fake information they are paying into systems like SS that they will never get to use.

ETA: It's kind of funny that liberals tend to be on the "free-market" side of this issue. Conservatives usually support healthy competition across sectors. But then when it's brown people competing with white people or foreigners competing with native-born citizens, suddenly they aren't so interested in competition. Hm...

Inequity is an issue that concerns right-wing conservatives? Since when, how on Earth did that happen?

A government without public oversight is like a nuclear plant without lead shielding.

THE LAW give immigrants the RIGHT to apply for asylum. Now Johnson admitted he doesn't want to change the law.

Cause he wants to USE the "crisis" for an election issue.

It's ALL on the Republicon House NOW.

^This is what Republican run businesses have done for DECADES. It is COMMON KNOWLEDGE that Trump employs a LOT of illegal immigrants at HIS PROPERTIES while simultaneously selling the MAGA RUBES on a free wall "paid for by Mexico."

Of course he fooled you by never delivering that.
