Why do Democrats and Republicans both support Ukraine?

I know this, have traveled the world. Taipei and Tainan are gorgeous cities I recommend you visit, if you haven't already.

Point being made, is that this is how they refer to an otherwise sovereign country. It also doesn't explain the why.

I was pointing to the double standard of caution used while dealing with China, and level of disrespect and disregard when dealing with Russia.

This was insanely preventable.

First you call Taipei a country, now you call Taiwan a city. I don’t think you know what you’re talking about here.

To establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China, a nation must refuse to recognize the existence of Taiwan, Chinese Republic. So Taiwan is not legally or diplomatically recognized by the US and most nations.

NATO is DEFENSIVE and has not ATTACKED any nation UNPROVOKED by an attack.

It is defensive, but getting closer to Russia would allow the US to station some military there.

Still defensive, but highly provocative when considering that Russia or China doing so to the US, would be considered unnacceptable.

Putin has proven them necessary for defensive purposes.

Too late, now.

Russia is in the driver's seat right now. Only way out, is to negotiate them out.

The US can only station military where it is invited. NATO doesn't give any member a right to base troops on another member's soil. Before the invasion, the only NATO countries bordering Russia were the Baltic states, now they have Finland as well, one of the best armed of NATO nations, backed up with an other new member with a capable military, Sweden. On top of that, most other NATO countries have upped defence spending as a result of the invasion. Putin plays lousy defence.

Agreed. The US has no reason to be there other than to push the democrat narrative which is "wokeness everywhere or we kill you", which is an evil reason and should be purged from our country.

You certainly have a vivid imagination which is completely divorced from the reality of Russia INVADING UKRAINE.

IF that is successful, we can expect much more of KLEPTOCRAT PUTIN stealing more country's' resources. ?

Because letting Putin take the land of a sovereign nation unchallenged is pure cowardice and sends a message that he can do whatever he wants. The purist isolationist policy of the pre-WWII US was immediately discarded after the bombing of Pearl Harbor because the event thereof instantly rendered it obsolete. Though as Iraq demonstrated, the US should have to have a good warrant to get involved in any conflict, but I believe this is one of them. Independent countries can make their own rules, I'm anything but a globalist, but something must be done about unjust invasions.

No actual soldiers should be sent unless Russia directly attacks a NATO country, of course.

Lol...nice of you to sacrifice the Ukrainian people for your own self gratification. Your death-cult is sickening.

That's the thing. You open the door to this, by allowing them to join.

Putin doesn't want to entertain the threat of this, and dismissing him is precisely why we are here.

When a guy like him states he will invade you, not believing is insane.

Lol… nice how you insult someone without bothering to explain what your disagreement is. I guess that’s because you incorrectly assume everyone knows what you’re thinking. You’re so certain you’re right that you think everybody knows what is “right” and they only disagree with you because they have evil intent.  This is not so.

Russia's helping the parts of Ukraine that don't want rainbow queers ruling their lives.

I agree with them; the homo groomers need to be put down.

Yeah, but in fairness regardless of the right or wrong of his actions   - how's that working out for him?

His military and his country's ability to project military might is crushed, and will be for quite some time.  And the ability to project power or at least to be seen to be able to is very important if you're going to have a say in the world's affairs.  We piggy back off the states but most countries need that horsepower and his is gone.

And russian gear is getting a bad rep around the world for better or worse - so it's harder to talk countries into letting you have rights and access there in exchange for military hardware which is a staple of most of the super powers.

Not to mention the fact that if this doesn't end with russia owning ukraine, then the us is going to FLOOD that country with as many arms as they can pack in and give them as much land for listening posts and ICBM-Intercept missiles as they could want.  Even if they don't join nato they're going to be a dagger pointed at the heart of russia and a buffer and seal that prevents russia from considering or even seriously threatening a lot of the nato allies in the region.

If his goal was to eliminate the threat of western power on his border then he's got to be very very disappointed at this point.

Yeah, he definitely had that blow up in his face, the moment Finland was admitted to NATO.

Now, people are more weary of him, thus spending as much as they can bolstering their military.

If he was trying to inflict fear, he did the opposite.

NO EVIDENCE to believe ^this OPINION. As USUAL.

Putin TRIED and failed to take Kiev. ㊙️ That means he wanted the WHOLE COUNTRY. Duh

IF you believe Putin cares about YOUR ISSUE, more than the HUGE UKRAINIAN gas reserves off the South coast, YOU'RE DELUGINAL.

It has everything to do with it. Homosexuality is the core of woke bullshit, and most of Ukraine wants in. The parts that don't want it, want Putin to step in.

Ukraine kicked Yanukovych out because he was a Putin stooge who was bribed to renege on the Western trade agreement HE PROMISED to get elected.

IOW, you KNOW NOTHING about what happened in Ukraine.

Is it to weaken Russia?

Let's imagine a world where bullies are free to do what they like if they feel themselves stronger. Putins, Xis, Uns any kind of dictator scum just doing invading, burning and bombing to dust whatever and wherever they like. In that kind of world, to have at least some safety folks would be looking for some protection, right? But we aren't taking anybody under our protection, we are whimpering and yawning at the most obvious case before our eyes, there won't be an easier, more obvious one because can't be, logically.

So where would they turn to? And how long would it be before you're under your little umbrella looking at the host of brutal dictator thugs all around, with the resources of the world and zillions of nukes they learned to punch? Would it look like a better option to you?

The Ukrainian people choose to fight. The Afghanis did not fight.

If the Ukrainians all threw up their hands and surrendered, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

That must be why the Ukraine government is trying to get all those war refugees extradited back to Ukraine.

Must be...
