What we have been hearing about for months may be only the tip of the iceberg.

Since Trudeau appointed the former GG as a special Rappateur, the debate has been centred on Johnston's connections with Trudeau, the Trudeau Foundation and the Liberal Party.

This article points out his love for and ties to China over the decades.  Yet little or none of this was mentioned by the media or journalists the past few months.  How could he have possibly been an impartial  investigator of Chinese interference with his affection for China?   How could Trudeau have possibly appointed someone like this?  Certainly Johnston's history with China would have been well known by Trudeau and his advisors.  This raises a lot of questions.

"“He’s obviously both in love with and infatuated by the PRC. When you are madly in love with someone, you want to be close to that person. You want to be loved by that person. You won’t do anything to jeopardize the relationship and you can’t see, or don’t want to see, the ugly side of that person.”

Critics say David Johnston was compromised by his deep affection for China (msn.com)

The Chinese have obviously been busily engaged in what they call 'elite capture' and Johnston was captured decades ago, along with many other senior Liberals and influential members of the corporate elites. It'd be interesting to see if, like others, he was given preferential investment opportunities in China to keep them 'honest' and busily defending China's interests. It'd also be interesting to see what business his kids are in given he had three of them educated at Chinese universities. I'm guessing their jobs have something to do with China, like advising/representing or working for companies that do business there.

Another part of elite capture involves those Confucious Institutes a number of universities and schools have installed. Johnston was a big fan of those. There, young people are taught precisely what the Chinese Communist Party wants them to be taught about China. Which is actually getting to be what our universities overall teach now, fearful of angering China and thus endangering the flow of money coming from Chinese foreign students and Chinese companies.

I am originally from Vancouver. Grew up there in the mid century.

The Chinese have always been influencers. Nothing new to it and if some folks think it is a recent phenomenon, well, you never paid attention .... or cared.

Yet, it was the American "arrogance" that kept this country, us, not paying our fair share.

It is very nice when we have a neighbor that does all the work. How else, we would have it so good here? Someone needs to do the "dirty" work.

Who said anything about "arrogance?"

Fair share of what?

The only country logistically able to invade Canada is the United States and it doesn't look like that is going to happen in the foreseeable future, depending on what happens in the next US election.

I have advocated for a viable Canadian military since the corrupt Pearson government, and nobody,  not even the people on this forum, agree with me.

Nobody disputes Red China is over stepping the boundaries and Canada more than the US, has reason to confront them. The US does not have all of the same values as Canada. We are not American, but we are in danger of seeing our culture and heritage overwhelmed by the American goat.

That is not to say there is anything wrong with American culture. As imperial powers go, the United States is the best the world has ever seen. Rather than dominate and even try to exterminate rivals, the US tries to help those in need.

But, Canadians are still different.

I am still not sure what you mean by fair share of economics.

You seem to be consumed by a fear of communists. The communist threat is basically dead. The only communist country of any note left is North Korea. Russia is sliding back into dictatorship and Xi's China is a totalitatian dictatorship, but neither are communist any more. We forget that not long ago, when they were communist, They were our allies in the Great Patriotic War and the defeat of the Japanese Empire. Mao and Stalin were the good guys.

China's power in the current situation, is a result of a Republican POTUS asking a Liberal Canadian Prime Minister to open relations with Mao's government. Suddenly western nations were tripping all over themselves to embrace China. We forget that in 2015, China was on everyone's list for a free trade deal. It all changed with the ascendence of President Xi. Just because he is a psychopath doesn't make him a communist.

However, the threat is not actually military. China does not have a history of invasion, with the exception of Tibet. Neither China nor Russia would be able to engage with Canadian Forces unscathed. (Article 5)

Is about mental warfare, I work as engineering sort of things for private, i know the latest with what happens with cyberwarfare, I think folks here think is a joke as to what the CCP can do.

That is something we can agree on. Before I retired, I had some contact with the local university's computer investigator. The university intercepted thousands of probes from China every week. Foreign students from China always had a political officer in their midst. So, I am not naive with regard to China. I regret that I mis-understood what you were getting at.

Global News just reported that Canada is an outlier in dealing with goods produced by slave labour in China.  While other western countries have banned goods from certain parts of China, Canada has done little to nothing.  We are starting to see now how the Chinese influence in Canada's elections is related to slave labour in China and the sale of low cost products here.

What culture and heritage? The ones the Laurentian elites who run the Liberal party have been doing their best to destroy for the last fifty years? The heritage Trudeau spits on and sneers at? The culture he denies we have?

Liberals are people who admire and cherish every culture in the world while constantly denigrating their own. They invite the world to Canada and assure them there's no need to adopt our culture or values because after all, theirs are just as good. The very idea Canada has a unique culture that's better than ANYONE or ANYWHERE is anathema to them. Suggesting it gets you accused of being some kind of white nationalist.

Personally,  I think the CCP is behind many of the cultural divisions in the West. T

In Canada, it's the Laurentian Elites.

Mind you, lots of them are very friendly with China too.

At the unveiling of Germany's national security strategy, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock says ensuring security in the 21st century means citizens "not being spied on by China."

Germany's new national security strategy is noticeably tough on China, accusing Beijing of repeatedly acting against Berlin's interests in a bid to reshape the global order.

Ahhhh . . . and here in Canada, we have elected a bunch of 'China ass kissers'  The words treachery, treason, traitor, and Trudeau come to mind when thinking of the present Liberal un-government.

In order to understand how much influence China has on Canada and the US we need to know how beholden Trudeau and Biden are to Xi and that topic is verboten.

I see Trudeau bowing before China for years and refusing to say or do anything that might offend them.

Your Biden narrative is completely unsupported. He's taken more action to restrain China than that noxious bloated diaper of a bald man Trump ever did or will.

Trump was the first POTUS to point out all of the issues with China and seek to address them.

I don't understand your love affair with Biden. His family received millions of dollars from the Chinese gov't and they backed China through every false covid narrative.

I don't even like Biden. I wish someone else had run this time around. But saying Trump had sought to address any of the issues with China is silly. All he did was tax their imports, which only increased the US dollar, decreased the Yuan, and meant that their sales to the US grew stronger. In just about ever other way he surrendered completely. He left Africa and Asia and even South American wide open for China to push their way in and take over. They own half of Africa and its resources now. Trump did nothing because he couldn't care less. The only time he ever met Xi he acted like a little poodle, just like he did with North Korea's dictator.

Biden is the guy who flat out warned China the US would intervene if they attacked Taiwan. He's the guy whose government has been pushing their influence forward all over the world to push China's back. He's taken steps to address China's control over American high tech, especially rare earth minerals, batteries, chips, etc.

The CHIPS act was Biden's only success during his presidency. In every other way he's an utter failure. Rolling over for the Taliban was about avg for him.

In the list of US presidents Trump is THE guy who reversed the course on kneeling to China. The Dems all lined up to kiss Xi's ring during covid just because they hated Trump more. They literally read the Chinese covid script word for word.

Who do you think benefits from ditching fossil fuels (actually cutting back on our own usage but selling all of fossil fuels off to China where they can theoretically be burned with no harmful emissions) and using green (Chinese) tech?

And as far as the CHIPS act goes, it was Trump who spoke out first about the drastic failures of the global (mainly through China) supply chain and the danger it poses to America.

You're just a horribly biased person.

Trudeau's Canada. The man likes to portray himself as a forward thinking futurist and saviour of humanity, yet in reality he is a complete phony and a liar.

He's with China, do you get that liberals?
