Biden won his first twenty elections during the cold war. Russia was his geopolitical foe for all of those years but America never got to sink her teeth into Ruskie flesh in all that time.

Now, with his popularity at an all-time low, and America still facing higher and higher inflation, racial division at a 70-yr high, fentanyl deaths increasing, violent crime increasing, stores being looted out of business even when there are no riots, the border dumpster fire & the Afghan debacle looming large on his resume, and no end in sight to the downhill trends, Biden has to know that a successful war is the only thing that can pull his legacy-fat outta the fire.

If he brings down Russia, that's all that he will ever be known for. 

But is it doable?

Not at all. The west's willingness to fight against Russia is no match for Russians' willingness to defend themselves. 

But leftist politicians, and even a lot of Republicans, can't pass up the chance at a bunch of warbucks. They can't pass up the chance to stand in front of a microphone and talk tough.

A $40B war chest for Ukraine has just been funded by a 368-57 vote in congress.

Even Vanity Fair is pro-war.

Finland and Sweden are openly talking about joining NATO. Russia is openly talking about deploying nukes on the Finnish border.

 

Some of my earliest political memories were just about wishing that the next president of the US wouldn't start a nuclear war. It used to take about 6 months to a year for me to grow comfortable with "the new guy", but the further that we get into Biden's presidency, the likelihood of a US-Russia war just keeps increasing. Shit is going south faster than any of us would like to admit.

Right now the pro-war talk is loud and angry, but the anti-war crowd needs to get angrier. The US needs to stand down, and stay the fuck out of Eastern European politics. There's a really good reason why "Let's follow the village idiot into battle" isn't a maxim.

This seems pretty ironic after a lifetime of being called a commie sympathizer by hard-boiled right-wingers for saying the same thing about the US and at least 3/4s of the planet's politics.  I figure at least 3/4's of the reasons Putin and other authoritarians are on the rise around the planet are due to Uncle Sam having staggered around it like some Franken-state on a power drunken rampage for so long.

The Americans think that they're being cute, using Ukrainians as raw meat to wage their proxy war against Russia, but it's China that's really laughing and no one seems to see it yet.

I don't think that the Dems have the sense to pull back. They're like an amped up terrier that caught sight of a smaller furry animal: once they hit their 3rd stride there's no calling them off. They'll run through traffic to get to their prey.

Right now China is revelling in all of this chaos. I think they'll wait to take Taiwan. There's no need for them to rush, they easily have until 2024 and once they do attack it will be over quickly. Also, the US is getting weaker day by day because of all the political strife within their own border. China is growing stronger and stronger. I don't see any reason for them to rush into anything.

China also gets to watch the US/NATO technology going head-to-head on the battlefield against modern Russian technology. They have their own stuff which the other two haven't really seen in action yet. They can learn from the Ukraine war and shift production to the stuff that's really gonna work and back away from things that don't work. This is a really dangerous scenario if China senses a weakness. 

This is the worst of times for America and the world since I've been old enough to drive.

Sweden and Finland stayed neutral all through the Cold War when the Soviet Union was far more powerful than Putin’s Russia. Perhaps you should ask yourself why they now see Russia as a greater threat to their security than the Soviet Union was for almost 50 years.

Those who push for war land in 1 of 2 camps.

1. Leaders who are staring a personal fortune in the face, if only they can push the USA into another war.

2. Those who, for whatever reason, lack any foresight at all and figure a war of the magnitude these idiots are contemplating, won't really affect them.

The members of the first group should lead the battle charges, should they happen.

Ukraine applied to become a NATO member in 2008. The application is still "pending ".

They haven't bombed the crap out of the entire country. In fact, much of western Ukraine hardly knows there is a war. How do I know this?
